Lots of people have that setup. Our green 1992 formula has a similar set as a dealer installed option.

Its good if you want to keep more of a "stock/factory" look. But other than that, you're wasting your money. Its extremely overpriced, specially considering you can make your own CAI with $50 or less, and thats mainly for the K&N filter...

Really the only difference is the filter box. Our 1992 has everything else exactly the same, same ducting, same filter (although it is a K&N) as the factory setup. The charcoal canister is relocated under the car, below the filter box.

I saw this also in Year One. is it for TPI? TBI? or all applications? Ive never seen it on any setups.

I have to disagree with several posts here, but anyone who has experience with me will know that is almost inevitable.

I have the kit, the intake trunking is OEM, but has been carefully modified with internal "air straighteners" inside the turns to reduce turbulence. Also, we duct taped the airbox to the inner fender, and poked a large hole in the plastic fender liner to let the engine breathe ONLY cool, outside air, no hot air from the radiator or engine bay. On a stock engine, this system gained only 2 HP, but on our TPI 383, we gained 16 HP with it compared to the stock system, with more than 14 HP gained from idle to 6K, measured at the REAR WHEELS.

You will not see gains like this on a system that breathes hot under-hood air. Run the dyno tests with the hood closed, and most of your gains disappear. If your engine is stock, throw a K&N in the stock air box and save your money for AFR heads and a good cam.

Re: has anyone seen this cold air kit on a car by SLP

The kit pictured above is for MAF TPI engines. I didnt know about the "air staighteners" in the MAF dusting. The speed density kit from SLP has the OEM plastic ducting, no difference inside. As far as putting tape on the box, the kit comes with a foam seal for the fender side of the box. Our Formy has the cold air kit, SLP Runners, SLP headers, SLP TOTL Catback and the SLP PROM as a dealer installed option. The entire package is said to give a 50 hp increase.

I have this setup on my 1992 Formula 350. I was impressed with the difference after I installed. Just like everything I have ever purchased from SLP the quality and fit was great.

OK, sorry wasn't thinking about the non-MAF version, I've never seen it, they are apparently different. My car didn't seal well with just the foam, but it has a tweaked inner fender from an accident.

I can see where all the SLP stuff adds up to a 50 HP increase at the crank, but when we originally tested the stock-engined car with the kit, we left the hood open, so only got 2 hp. On a highly modified car, we realized we needed to close the hood to make the test valid, that is probably why we saw such a huge increase in power, so you will probably see more than 2 hp with the kit on a stock engine, simply because of the colder air. Making your own kit will just breathe hot underhood air, and thus will be only of limited value. On a stock engine, the air filter/trunking system is really not a limiting factor.

One thing to mention here is this kit is any easy bolt on for firebirds but on Camaro's the battery must be relocated which is a big PITA.

Fbodies have battery trays on both sides. Extend your cables.... done. But there are alot of ways to make CAI.
