Re: 350 header question

Yes, The first ones will fit (not very well, but they fit), But you'd probably be happier with the full length headers. Also the ball and socket flange on the long tubes seal better than the 3 bolt flange on the shorties.

Re: 350 header question

I'll just put it this way, The long tubes will give you better torque and horsepower than the shorties. With the bigger primaries and the 3" collector of the long tubes your engine will breath better. So yeah the long tubes will be better for your engine. Connecting them to the existing exhaust might be a pain though, You'll probably have to make a custom y-pipe (I'll let someone else tell you whether or not there is a y-pipe made for the 3rd gen's with long tubes, Because I'm not sure).

Re: 350 header question

So with the shorties headers it easier to connect and exhaust for it

Re: 350 header question

yes, but the long tubes are alot better for power gains as taz stated. shorties yeild better ground clearance and ease of install. i run the long tubes. u will need collector extensions like these http://www.jegs.com/i/Hedman/500/18805/10002/-1

you will also have to run new exhaust, imo long tubes are the way to go, even with the headaches of the install

Re: 350 header question

Since I'm old and lazy, I like the easy route: I'd buy shorties which INCLUDE the Y pipe, such as the Hooker 2055's. You really don't need more than that for a stock motor, IMO. I run them on my 350/330 with good effect anyway. No ground clearance issues with them either--hey, my car is low enough as is. Though it's probably more than you wish to spend, here's a direct-fit system (no welding, no cutting, no bending, etc.): Hooker 2055's (Jeg's 520-2055). Catco high-flow converter (Summit CTO-9118). Hooker catback (Summit HOK-16823HKR).

if you have the engine out i would def go long tube, set the headers in the bay before droping your engine into the bay. use a bungie to secure them to the fender wells. thats the hardest part of the install for long tubes. the collector extensions will bolt right on. they route under the crossmember. i used clamps like this http://www.jegs.com/i/Dynomax/289/33226/10002/-1 and these mufflers,
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

all 3in, my car is lowered about 2in as well, so they scrape a bit, 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 will work for you alot better.

My car's not lowered and I'm running shorties, and I still pussyfoot around on uneven roads--however, I don't drag anything but the air damn occasionally. Out of curiosity, how much clearance is there between the tubes and the ground?

Re: 350 header question

i have about 2in on level ground, they scrape on roads where big trucks make ruts, and steap driveways. i rarly street the car cause its extremely loud. i want to add som 45deg bends to dump out in front of the back wheels, hoping it might quit it down a bit.

Re: 350 header question

If you are going with shorties, be sure to consider headers from Dyno Don, on this site. They're 1.75" primaries with (IMO) excellent form, fit and function.

My guess is that you'll have to be careful regardless of stock ride height. But each to his own. .

i may be wrong, but there is no y pipe for the long tubes. sounds like you should just go the bolt on way, and get the shorties. i would at least rec the flowtech ones over the summits. as for mufflers that is your choice, just remeber that these cars ar very limited in ground clearance even at stock ride hieght. you best bet is to mount the mufler/muflers in the stock location, in that case go with a flowmaster single in dual out so it at least looks cool and will have a decent sound.
