Re: twin turbo kit

ya i went on ebay to look and that is one of the kits they list, it looks cool but people i know who hae purchased ebay turbos always end up blowing the oil seal on the turbo, i dont know anyone whos purchased the fbody one but i know the honda ones are junk so i would assume that the f body ones are, but t\hey mabye someone who has bought one can write us a review, im curious to see how well they really work

Re: twin turbo kit

There was a guy on ls1tech that bought an ebay tt kit for his c5 corvette. Put it on his 402 (I think) stroker and made over 750whp with the ebay turbos. He never had a problem with them other than them being too small for his application so he upgraded to a pair of name brand turbos.

Would you happen to have his user name? I'd like to have a chat with him about it.

Re: twin turbo kit

ive seen the kits for as low as 800$ for our cars. still tho be weary of the quality. the only thing id be weary of is the turbos. wish theyd sell a kit without the turbos and just get them sum garrett t3/t4 turbos. and ive seen garretts for as low as 200$ each new

Re: twin turbo kit

A bunch of guys will grab those kits, get rid of the ebay turbos, uninstalled, for a few bucks, and then install quality units in their place. Because...turbos are pretty easy to get ahold of. As long as the piping and other components fit and work as they should...thats the hard part in my opinion. The frame work of the kit if you will. The turbos and waste gates and all are just the trim for the frame work.

That said...for that money Ide probably be looking elsewhere, or seeing what fabbing a kit starting with a set of turbo ready manifolds would cost.

Re: twin turbo kit

the problems go further then the turbos, lets break it down here, those headers are $120 crap that will crack unless you fab a turbo support. that b.o.v is $34 , $20 boost controler, $150 oil plumbing, $50 cold side piping, a $120 intercooler and a $30 fan, the turbos are barley worth there money in scrap metal(half of them are epoxied togther).

that is $500 -$600 bucks worth of components that we are talking about using out of a $1200 kit. you are better off fabbing your own kit with some junkyard turbos and some research. shlt buy some good turbo headers from a vendor on here and piece it together from there.

Re: twin turbo kit

I totally agree. There have been a few TGO guys that went though and got these and installed them. I wish I had stayed with the thread, I never saw it done. But I do know that the guy just wanted to make a tinny bit of booste, not sure why. Something about it being more for looks than for speed. Retarted. But whatever.

I am doing a twin turbo build sorta soon. But I am only in the research fase right now. Reading the 10000 pages of info on the power adder board. Boring, but you gotta do it. You def don't have to get super nice everything, just a few things nice and other stuff crap. lol. Just need to know what stuff.

Re: twin turbo kit

the stuff that is usually crap in these kits is the headers/turbos/wastgates.... thats the heart of the system. the other cr@p is just piping/silicone couplers.

depending on how expensive the kit is it might be cheaper to buy a 600-800$ turbo kit, get the headers and piping and couplers and cooler and just fab up a turbo support and get new turbos. ive seen garret T3s for about 200$ each new. vs buying new turbo headers(could be expensive) and then buying each part individually... that adds up. could save more with a kit and selling parts from it and buying better parts to replace it.

i can see the point in a low boost engine. if i were to do it i would do a low boost. lower boost means u have better street manners, u dont have the problems of pushing the engine parts to the extremes, u have a happier engine. most ppl dont need 1000hp for a street car, SHlT id be happy with 750 and like 600 at the wheels. lower boost also means cheaper gas, and less change of melting a piston/detonation etc. i would sacrifice sum HP for a longer living engine with better manners.

smaller turbos also spool up faster and are more run on a daily driven car. which is why if i were to run twin turbos id get a small kit like a T3 kit, max would be a T3/4 hybrid turbo.

carcraft did an article on a guy he had a 100,000 mile truck 350 he pulled from a junk yard, threw it in his 3rdgen firebird, think he stuck forged pistons he had, threw on the STOCK TPI and fabbed up a twin turbo setup with 2 used BUICK t-type turbos (good for 300hp each) and had something insane like 650rwhp. thats with a stock cast crank/forged rod/forged piston truck 350 and a stock TPI.

i was thinking of doing nitrous at a 600$ price tag and 40$ a pop to fill it. but for 800$ i could have a twin turbo setup... hmmm

Re: twin turbo kit

for 1200-1500$, u could prolly fabricate yourself a single, using stock manifolds and some shorty headers, with a masterpower turbo. they are around 700$ shipped an support around 700bhp

Re: twin turbo kit

wat size turbo would u use for a 383 HSR? if you were to use single or double turbos? idk how u would even run a single turbo on our cars unless it was the STS setup where the stock muffler is.

single turbos altho bigger make insane power... for that matter turbos allow any engine to make STUPID power very easily. would love a turbo my 383 HSR but i dont think the crank will take it with a scat cast crank, i'll be around 480-500hp NA already

Re: twin turbo kit

imo, single turbo is the way to go. less of a mess under the hood. better potential. you have to run a merge pipe from both banks into the turbo. there are a few guys on here with them. jay rich is in the process of doing it to an lt1 3rd gen.

Re: twin turbo kit

wat size tho would be a good size. something with maybe a 700-900hp potential. single turbo will basically make me run a ypipe into the turbo and then a single outlet that could be broken up into 2 outlets but would there be a need for it? i like the twin turbo setups bc u can keep that dual exhaust. i kno very little when it comes to turbo size for an engine. i'd like to see sum setups too and see how its done on our cars

Re: twin turbo kit

single turbo for 383 hsr for 700-900 would be the S400 from borg warner/airworks. Nice turbo for the price. T6 flange tho so its abit big but perfect for two 2.5 " feed pipes.

T76 may work well to for 700 ish whp. They have a T78 budget turbo out there too that may work well.

But i'd love to see you build a twin turbo setup for 1200 bucks. I got 1100 in the two turbos alone, and they are master power turbos which are as cheap as your gonna find, unless you buy some rebuilt junkyard type turbo or buy them used. I got over 200-300 in the manifolds and they arent even done yet.

Oh and just looking at that kit, i doubt that will fit on our cars. those manifolds look to have room for down pipes between the cylinders but they look like they will sit very high and far back.

I think for a twin setup on our cars, you would want to mount the flange for the turbo between 1-3 cylinders favoring closer to the number 1 on drivers side and similar spot on the passenger side. Atleast in my experience this will be the only way to work it. Depends on the turbo design tho. My master power T60 on the drivers side needs tilted in alot over the valve coverto get it all to clear the brake stuff and get the downpipe in the position to go between the number 5-7 cylinders
