Keep frying fusible link by starter solenoid HELP

Hello Fellas and Fellets.... I just bought this 88 GTA and its been carb swapped by a very sloppy previous owner. And I have a lot of questions.. I will try to tell you all I know so far about it.. First off, I replaced the starter solenoid 2x thinking that could be why I've been frying that fusible link by the starter.. Kind of thinking that is not it.. Could it possibly be my starter? All I have to do is turn the key to run and it pops immediately...No wires are touching that I can see.. Now here is where some may wanna slap me and call me stupid. I removed the fusible link and put a nice 30A inline fuse on the firewall for easy access because I am tired of frying the fusible link.....I know that is not correct but can anybody confirm that is my problem? The car started the other day with it hooked up like that so I don't know what is going on today...Here is another question? My steering column is so loose and wobbles at every joint.. Could there be some wires in there touching and zapping my starter when I turn the key to run? Or would that just pop a fuse in my fuse panel?

Which starter terminal do you have the purple wire on? The S terminal (closer to the block), or the R, farther out?

OOps yes the purple wire is on the s terminal and the other orangeish wires that are spliced together are going to the big battery terminal along with the battery cable..

OK then, something is touching something it doesn't need to.

You DO realize that the "S" terminal is the one closer to the block, right? The eeeeezyer one to get to is the "R" terminal.
