innovate motorsports LM-2

Has anyone used this or dealt with this company before?
I recently hooked one up in my car and it will not do anything but show a display.
Went through troubleshooting with tech dept. with no change.
Now I had to fill out an RMA form on their website to get an RMA # before I can send it back for repair.
Three days and no reply, hope I am just impatient cause this is not an inexpensive piece.

Re: innovate motorsports LM-2

Just got my RMA.

Will post my experience for future reference since this seems like a nice tool if it works properly.

Re: innovate motorsports LM-2

I personally do not like Innovate quality. I had LC1 fail on me twice within six months of purchase. Keep in mind that I don't drive my car that often.

Re: innovate motorsports LM-2

Yeah mine did not work on initial install and they had me try it on another car, then update the firmware even though it had the newest version, then you cannot send it back without filling out a form online to get an RMA#,never heard of such a thing.

RMA# must be on outside of box or they will deny the package.

Just seems like such a hassle when the product was defective from the start.

Not very happy with their customer so far.

Any other company I have ever dealt with has just said send it back and we will replace it.

Re: innovate motorsports LM-2

Recieved my LM-2 back today.
Hooked it up and it did the same thing. Then I started the engine and it warmed up and calibrated!
Then....Erratic afr readings,no afr at idle,plugs say I'm lean,LM-2 says 7.4 afr when I rev past 1500.
Changed jets 3 sizes down, same afr,no change at WOT.

I'm going to have my car dyno'd and have them compare the LM-2 to there equipment.

Re: innovate motorsports LM-2

For any 02 sensor that needs to be calibrated, they all do it in "open air" or in the exhaust if the car has not been run for a day or so.

U need to do that before its put in and not when it is running.

Are u sure your following the directions and manual properly? IT to me would seem weird that it would calibrate differently because it uses the same sensor as the Lm-1

(Going off my LM-1 which other than replacing the sensor every now and then soldering the power hookup back together on the board after 3-4 yrs of use has been close to infallible)

I used it daily driving, on multiple vehicles , etc.

Re: innovate motorsports LM-2

I confirmed the free air calibaration.

Page 10 of the LM-2 manual.

U never said u did that, its a requirement with a new sensor or new install

Re: innovate motorsports LM-2

Yes I did the free air calibration,I should have been clear on that .

I plugged the unit in and it powered up but did not warm up or calibrate. Then when I started the engine it shut down because the power source goes dead when in start position then comes back on in run.
It then warmed up,I calibrated it then installed sensor in exhaust.

Now at idle it displays 20.9 which is the calibration reading, then it jumps around all different #'s till about 1500 rpm then I get 7.4 in bold #'s.Lambda of .5

This never changes all the way to 6000 rpm til I let off the throttle then it goes haywire again.
I went down 3 jet sizes it never changed.
I will re-calibrate next chance I get,but it says a reading of 20.9 + or- .4 is good,and I am getting 20.9.
I have tried to register on their forum but have not recieved my activation link yet.

I have read many posts on their forum and it seems the LM-1 was a much better product quality wise.

I will be updating as I go,so if it is something I am doing I will let everyone know and save them the headache I am going through.

Thanks for the suggestions 3.8Trans Am,any more are highly appreciated till I can call them on Monday,or get on the forums.

Thanks again Mike T

Re: innovate motorsports LM-2

Ya know, what u are saying is exactly what I experience when I kill an o2 sensor in mine.

Any exposure to silicon put them at risk, lots of cleaners, paints and anti freeze contains it. Very little will wipe out an o2 if it gets near it.

Also seen a bad sensor or 2 out of the box/bag as well, u can get them for much cheaper than Innovate sells them for online or if u know someone at an Audi or VW store(dont know what other makers used them)

Before u jump on that route, confirm your unit is getting battery voltage to it and that u re tried the calibration

I believe u can also change the reading diplay scale on the LM-2 might want to go thru that and see that it is 1-5 volts currently as well.

Re: innovate motorsports LM-2

It was me.

What I did 1st time was calibrate sensor, unplug it then install in exhaust. This was the equivalent of installing a new sensor, duh.

Calirated sensor, twisted wires so when installed they would be straight not twisted, which is why I unhooked it to install in exhaust 1st time.
LM-2 is reading rpm's,afr and logging all to sd card.

Now time to learn how to use it.
Thanks 3.8 you lead me in the right direction.

Re: innovate motorsports LM-2

best deal i got was 2 for 77$

Used to buy them 2 at a time and bruce aka grumpy would buy the toehr from me when i visited him lol

40-45$ should be attainable digging around for it a bit, dont have the bosch number handy laying around right now however, do some searching and u should find it.

Your welcome raptor80dad. We all do something stupid and stare at it forever before it hits us between the eyes lol Lord knows I have more than my fair share. Just glad to see that u got it working and are good to go now
