Where to buy vented gas cap
A question asked many times on this website, but never with a real answer.
I dont want to put on a filter, I dont want to drill a hole in the original cap, I dont want to put on my original emissions components. The 84' camaro's do not come with a vented cap either. I have read every thread on the caps and still know one will give a useful place to find them.
I, as well as others would appreciate a straight forward answer if anyone knows where to get one. Thanks

What is wrong with the OEM vent tube? Just asking because I'm wondering why you would want to change it.

Almost any auto parts store will have a vented gas cap for your car.

Re: Where to buy vented gas cap
they dont. they look up in that computer of theirs for one nothing shows up. Most people that work at those stores are pretty useless and dont know much about cars. The generally carry Stant brand that do not vent.
Is there anywhere online?

i work at autozone and i know for a fact we carry them too, what it is usually the stores are franchises and they are run differently as according to who manages them, some of the stores redardless of the name are full of a bunch of guys who couldn't find their *** with both hands, and others actually know what their doing, if he can't get you that part number i know for a fact i can and i'll get it to you as soon as i can

Re: Where to buy vented gas cap
I too need a vented gas cap. When I put the 350 in my car I ended up crimping the return line closed so it wont leak gas but now I need to crack the gas cap open every hour or so that I drive....you can actually hear the tank go "pong!!!" as the air rushes into the tank. I have tried drilling a tiny hole in the gas cap and it ends up all down the side of the car when I step on it. Can you please send me the same part number??my car is a 84 camaro berlinetta.

Re: Where to buy vented gas cap
thanks, but 10822 is just a standard non vented cap it seems by the looks, as well as description.
the next one 10823 looks different, but is labeled as a "pre-release" cap.. which i do not believe is a true vented gas cap.
They did not make these caps for our generation, i don't even think they did for the 2nd gen either.
I think the 60's Camaro's had them but i doubt the threads on those caps would fit on the neck of the tank.

I bought the exact same NOS gas cap last spring and it still doesn't vent. I need to crack the cap every hour or so.

Re: Where to buy vented gas cap
A gas cap is a gas cap when it comes to GM, look up at pre 80s full size, don't look up parts for anything that had FI, its not gonna be vented.

Re: Where to buy vented gas cap
? gas cap is a gas cap??
It says its vented. Idc about any GM history. does it work or not?
No one seems to know if where to get a vented cap that fits our cars. If the one on the link above is one and is clearly stated as "vented" then why wouldnt it vent? as one person said above^.. Do you have everything hooked up right?
I just want to truly know if that cap works or not. if it doesnt where to by a vented cap.
This thread is way to long, again this is for others to know as well.. But as usual i get the roundabout and useless answers..
Does anyone know?
Thanks

Re: Where to buy vented gas cap
And this is why i get upset.
It obviously does vent, a vented cap allows air in.. and not out. People that drill holes in their stock cap its just funny. Post things you are sure about, to save some confusion.
The canister is to allow fumes out. So if that is plugged, im sure its going to build up pressure.
The ventilator valve.. Does that let air in? I think it does..If so can i just use that and my stock cap that is NOT vented?
What should i do in place of my canister line? Dont tell me to hook it back up, im not going to.. Also dont tell me let the line run out in the middle of nowhere, if it is allowing explosive fumes out and we are next to a lot of things like the exhaust that produce heat, this is important on where and how to run this line. Use a filter ive been told at the end of it. Well this will still allow the fumes continually out and stink up the garage.. hmm
Ideas?

Maybe a dead issue at this point, but I went to Auto Zone today and picked up a CST, Inc. "Safety-Vent Fuel Cap" #6819 and it fit my 83 TA perfectly.

Just visit a junk yard if your having so much trouble, will be plenty of vented ones on older GMs
grab several and sell em.

Re: Where to buy vented gas cap
I ordered the one linked here from MDM, and the bottom of the cap is recessed with no venting.
See the attached cap pictures. The first one is from a 90s gmc truck it's vented. The 2nd one is not vented, and is what I ordered from MDM. I hate wasting $$
