High Compression

Does anyone know of a good clean Octane Boost I could use in my 11 to 1 Aluminum Headed 355.I just installed a new cat so I need one thats safe for it.I use 92 octane and have a pretty aggresive cam.But need some kind of way to boost octane. What brand does anyone else use in there high CR Engines.

Have you had your PROM tweaked?

I understand there are guys running more than 11:1 with no octane booster on premium unleaded with a custom PROM. I've read some articles with engines running as much as 12:1 with only pump gas and no ping.

I believe that's it not a matter of how much timing but how fast it comes in that makes the difference. Of course, it's got to have the right A/F ratio.

Do you have any Diacom readings of your BLMs and Integrator activity you can share?

Let me know if you come across a good booster.

I don’t know if this stuff is cat friendly but I always used 104 (black bottle) in my GTO. It did the trick for me. 104 makes two different strengths, the red bottle is the cheap stuff and the black bottle is the good stuff.

Try the NOS line of octane boosters. I've used the 104+ in my stroker and found that after a couple of tankfulls the car would get a surge when cruising. When I checked the plugs they were Orange. I stopped using it after that. I now have DFI on the car and am able to pull a little bit of timing out when running 93 octane. By the way,I have a stroker motor,Mini-Ram,AFR's,11.25-1 comp etc.

Has anyone tried just disconnecting the EST connector and cranking up the initial to, say, 12 degrees?

I'm sure gas mile will suffer, but with the 22 degrees in the module you'd have 34 degrees total, which I believe is about right for the SB.

What other side effects would there be. I know the engine would set a code, but would the SES be on too?

Any comments?

That orange tint you saw on your plugs, HiTech was a dye the 104+ puts in the additive, tells them that you've used it. It's just a dye, has according to 104 NO effect on the engine. So they told me, whether or not you can believe them is another matter.

Havoc, what type of performance are you get on 92 oct gas? You would think with a long duration cam and aluminum heads you should be running in to problems with detenation. If you ign curve is not to radical you shouldn't have any problems. But what do I know? Just my two cents worth.

Not currently having any problem was just wondering what the common opinion was on brands of octane boosters.
