Spark Plugs?

Spark Plugs?
I was wondering if anybody has tried out the new Bosch +4 or +2 platinum plugs? Does anybody have any suggestions or information about good plugs/wires/distributors? Thanks

MALLORY
I use the mallory comp 9000 unitle distributor, along with a mallory pro-master coil... these will work with you stock ECM...
MSD 6AL very, but VERY popular untit.. you got choices out there... in wire.. go with the accel 8.8 wire.. beffy and strong.

For plugs, I hear the BEST ones out there now (by far) are the AC Rapidfire. Rather than a single spark, they create a "cone" of electricity. Next to that are NGK's. I wouldn't waste my time on another set of Bosch plugs...
Don't waste your money on the +4s or +2s. In fact, I would stay away from platinum tipped plugs, as I've had bad luck witht he tip burning off soon after installing them, and running nitrous on them is a no no. The multiple spark stuff is advertising propoganda to make you spend more money. What you really want is one hot spark in preciesly the same location every time. You don't want it skipping from place to place. Go with regular old AC Delcos and you'll be just fine.
NGK is the brand of plugs. Just ask for em at the auto store. They have the dual spark technology, etc.
Also, does no one here like MSD?
I'm upgrading my ignition, and was planning to go with a MSD distributer, MSD 6AL ignition, Blaster 2 coil, Heli-core wires and Spitfire plugs. Any opinions???

I work at a parts store and believe me, the Bosch do not run well in domestic vehicles. I'd recomend either a regular AC plug or the Rapid Fires. My next choice would probably be the standard Atolite. The only advantage to a platinum plug is that it lasts longer. The spark is no better at all, in fact it actually is a little worse than a standard plug.

Another thing to remember is if you upgrade your ignition, you don't want anything other than a standard spark plug. I run a Jacobs system and they specifically say do not run ANY precious metal spark plugs. All you need is just a plain old run of the mill spark plug, with a bigger gap of course.

My buddy is a certified mechanic and worked for Fuel Injection Specialties (a high performance shop here in San Antonio, TX). As part of his training, he went to a seminar about spark plugs. The splitfires (and the other 'split' type plugs) all produced a single spark - electricity followed the path of least resistance. Once carbon was build up on one point, it would move a little to the next path of least resistance, etc. You still only get one spark.
The rapidfires were better in that they created a 'cone' of electricity. NGK's had the single spark, but it was a really STRONG spark, unlike most of the others.
My friend was never an NGK fan, until he took that seminar.

I have never bought into the hype plugs. They do nothing for me. My question is, I have Vortec heads, and they require a 3/4 reach plug. If I go to Auto Junk, they have to go by the year, and make. Well I have to go by at least a 96, and they all used Platinum plugs. Does anyone know a part number for a regular AC Delco plug, that has a 3/4" reach?

I've always stuck with AC plugs for my Chevy's and NGK's for my rice cars, for no other reason other than that's what they came with from the factory.
Also, In looking at plug application catalogs, I've also found that AC and NGK have a more specific coverage (for lack of a better term). For example, Champion covers a lot more applications with one plug, where as AC and NGK will cover those same applications with several plugs.
I've also heard that Bosch platinims don't perform well with DIS ignition systems.
BTW, what's the deal with those Champion "truck" plugs?
