Quick I found some used vortec heads

My bother-in-law works with a guy that has some vortec heads.
they are complete and he said they were in good condition.

I can get them for 200 bucks or less.

Are they worth it! what do I need to look for to see if they will be good heads. I need advice quick!!

They are worth the price! the only thing needed to make these heads into great performers is to have the spring pockets machined and have larger springs put in. and port the exhaust ports of the heads a little. The heads are more than likely in good condition and $200 is a good price for them.

If you are sure they are Votecs, take them and run in the opposite direction as fast as you can!! Even for $200, they are a steal.

If you don't get them, send them my way, I've been looking for a set of these at a decent price forever...

I know they are a good deal! I was wondering instead of spending 200 on the heads then have a bigger valves, port and polish, valve guides, studs, and roller rockers. and the 400 for the intake. would I be better off building my heads and port & polish the intake, runners, and plenum.

By the time I put 200 to buy the heads, 400 for the intake, and additional money for the head work, I will be over 1000.

I guess what I am saying Is it worth it for the money.

I want to keep my car a street car but I wont be driving it every day. I will only be going to the track maybe twice a month if that.

What kind of times do you think I will run with free mods on my 350 TPI with duel factory cats, no muffler with turbo tips, 2.73 gears, 700r4, and street tires.

Will head work help the car alot. I want to go with headers and 3.73 gears. and maybe a cam. I think this will help my car alot.

Need advice. I dont know what is the best route to go.

All that stuff you listed, studs, port-polish, bigger valves, roller rockers doesn't hold a bearing on the Vortecs b/c it sounds as if you would get those items for your current heads also. Don't get bigger valves for the Vortecs, they won't help enough to justify the cost. Port-polish isn't needed either if you can't do it yourself. So the intake and the initial cost of the Vortecs are all your looking at. If you dump $600 into the stock heads you have now, I would be hard pressed to say you would go as fast as you would with the Vortec's and matching intake.

$200 is fair but they are only $425-$450 a pair when new.

I passed on the heads. Couldnt scratch up the money right now.

The bad thing about it, the guy said he would stand behind them and take them back if they where cracked.

And the price was $200.00

I will proably kick my self down the road for not buying them.
