ordering hood: ASCD or Hawks 3rd Gen.. HELP!

hey guys. i want to order a daytona iroc hood for my 87 camaro. I have found it at both ASCD (american sports car design) and at hawks third gen site.

my problem is i need to know WHICH VENDOR to order from. I have seen some very mixed reviews on ASCD -- both for the quality of thier hoods and there customer service when dealing with people--ive read about hoods with horrible gouges and waves, etc..

on the other hand..ive read hawks thrid gen is a great vendor to order from.. but im not familiar (and havent read) anyone who has ordered a hood from them

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...give me some insight as to who i should order from for the best quality hood & customer service.

I ordered my big block hood from Hawks. I called them on the phone, confirmed they had one in stock ready to ship. Ordered monday morning, it arrived at my work wednesday. Very well packaged/protected. No problems with it, been on my car a year. Hope that helps.

that BB hood looks pretty sharp in person too. if i had a camaro w/ GFX thats what i'd probably go with.

I know Hawks, dont know the other vendor. I bought a used hood from Hawks a while back and the auto body guy said it had too many waves in it to be able to use. Hawks gave me my money back right away and was going to send me another one, but I found one locally in a junkyard. Bruce has always given me very good service.

I have gotten many parts from hawks, and I never had any problems with the items.

Hawks!!!!! this is the third post I have replied to today, all recommending Hawks. I have purchased four seperate transactions from Hawks & each time it flowed like water. They are excellent to deal with!

Bruce is a great guy to deal with but I think they are both ascd. So the quality would be the same either way but the customer service is better at Hawks at least everything I have heard.

Actually, while they both look very familiar, I believe the Hawk's hoods are in-house designs, not just bought & resold.

I've heard good & bad on ASCD, but nothing but good on Hawk's.

That was my understanding as well, Hawks are in-house. I'm very happy with the fitment of the hood btw, as close to perfect for an aftermarket fiberglass hood you could expect. I've seen some really bad fitment on aftermarket fiberglass hoods.

Re: ordering hood: ASCD or Hawks 3rd Gen.. HELP!

I knew I had seen it before, straight from Hawk's...

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/afte...-gt-hawks.html

I wrongly accused Hawks of simply reselling a while back, and Bruce himself responded...

"we do make MOST ALL of our own fiberglass and alot of the other produscts we sell so I would appreciate you knowing the facts before making a post on a public forum. thanks man and btw I am not upset at all just stating the facts, you understand."

Re: ordering hood: ASCD or Hawks 3rd Gen.. HELP!

I was researching ASCD myself on the net earlier this week and found a web site that lists ASCD as a business up for sale. Don't know what that is worth to you or if it is legit. Just thought I would let you know. Here is the link:

Re: ordering hood: ASCD or Hawks 3rd Gen.. HELP!

Most fiberglass hoods need about 5-8 hours to get them flat and ready for paint. My ss hood was even longer than that trying to repair a crack I made. No matter were you get a hood one things for certain if its fiber glass it will need work anyway.

Get it from Hawks, hands down!
With ASCD you'll have nothing but problems, at least I did.

Re: ordering hood: ASCD or Hawks 3rd Gen.. HELP!

i ordered my daytona iroc hood for my camaro on wednesday from HAWKS..it arrived today at my mechanics. he called me up to alert me it had arrived, and thankfully i had instructed him to open it up and inspect the hood before sigining for it from the truck carrier.

he opened it up to find the the rear passenger corner was completely broken off. this was strange since he told me that the packaging looked to be perfect and not thrown around, etc in the truck. i questioned wether it was shipped from hawks broken...

i called Hawks and told them of my dilemma. they told me to refuse the hood and send it back and that a new hood would ship out on tuesday. i told the girl whom i spoke with, Stacy, that I needed the hood asap and asked if one couldbe shipped today to help expeidite the process. she was very nice and said Hawks would indeed send another hood today.

While im annoyed that the hood came damaged, im glad they are trying to make it right. will post again when the 2nd hood (hopefully in mint shape) arrives...
