Dynamic EFI EBL flash

So I purchased an EBL Flash ecm from another TGO member to upgrade the computer in my 91 rs with a 5.0 tbi. Even getting it second hand I'm very impressed with the quality and capability of the EBL flash over stock.

This has been my first attempt at doing any form of custom tuning and Rbob and the crew at Dynamic EFI could't have made it easier with all the documentation and bins provided with the ECM. The ability to tune my car from my laptop on the fly is awesome and with the learn VE ability my ECM pretty well optimizes the tune on its own. Not to mention that I'm able to keep my ECM in place under my dash with just a small phone cable sticking out, and that easily tucks up under the dash when I don't have the laptop hooked up.

From just installing the EBL Flash and running a few learn VE sessions I've noticed a large difference in my cars performance. Fuel mileage is better, Throttle response is much improved, it seems to accelerate quicker and handle changes in RPM much better than stock. The only other mods to my car are an EGR delete, open air element, and the exhaust has been redone including hedman headers, hedman y-pipe, and dynomax cat-back system.

Another thing that makes this something I definitely recommend to anyone wanting to keep their fuel injection is the presence of Rbob here on TGO and his willingness to pass on his knowledge of tuning to everyone that needs it.

So to Rbob and the rest of the Dynamic EFI team, if you're reading this, keep up the great work and thank you for your incredible product.

That's the sort of thing one wants to hear! I'm pretty certain there's one of their ECMs in my cars future, too.

Re: Dynamic EFI EBL flash

I would highly recommend these guys to anyone interested in doing serious upgrades to an OBD1 vehicle without switching to carb. The guy I bought mine from had it in a chevy c10 pickup with TBI and was happy but switching to LS for more power. Ever since I read about the comparison between the EBL flash and custom chips/ other aftermarket ecms I wasn't 100% positive that the EBL was worth the extra cost. However, with that said, I would definitely like to point out that the customer support and help provided by Rbob on his product makes the added expense more than worth it. It's definitely nice to know that I have someone that's a knowledgeable and confident in their product as Rbob is.

Re: Dynamic EFI EBL flash

After reading post after post of successful results with EBL flash I placed my order from Dynamic EFI. I was amazed at how fast the ECM was returned. I shipped my ECM on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, and received the ECM with EBL flash installed the following Wednesday! Outstanding service! I cannot wait to start the conversion to EFI on my 83 Z28.

If I can't get my car running properly on a stock ecm, this is definitely at the top of the list.

Re: Dynamic EFI EBL flash

i second what has been said.
however, despite rbob always being available for questions, imho the knowledge is widely spread out and it can be a little hard to get all the details together. some EBL users on here have expressed a desire for something like an EBL wiki and i feel the same. it could also spare some or even a lot of Rbob's and other users time answering the same questions over and over again

I third (or fourth) it! The EBL is a great tool. Like anything else you have to learn it and that does take some time to get past the rough tune in. (which is pretty darn good) It's all the little things, tuning for ambient changes, cams, etc that take the most time and need pro tips.

I also agree about organizing the info/support. Most of it is out there, heck if we just organized the info in the "ebl tuning" thread it would be a large volume.

One of the problems I see is it's mostly the people like me who can't quite figure it all out on my own, who need it. I'd be willing to contribute but don't know how useful I'd be. The pro's don't need it nor do they have the motivation to line it out. Except for maybe Bob saving time answering my stupid questions. At least he hasn't told me to jump in the lake when I asked a question clearly answered in his support docs... I think he's done a pretty thorough job of organizing a most of it.

Re: Dynamic EFI EBL flash

Rbob is a smart cookie I've known him on the boards for a long time and in person almost as long.

If you are willing to learn and read a little, he will help you with any issues you have and if he says something you can pretty much put it in the bank.

I'm eventually going LSX route on my TPI cars(one in progress), but the TTA will eventually get his setup for the 148 ecm's.

Re: Dynamic EFI EBL flash

Another satisfied customer...

My car was being stored in a garage away from my home...
I had sent rbob my ecm, he shipped it back... I think I had to move 3 wires in the harness, and car ran great (he loaded the correct bins before hand) so I could just plug n go

Thanks!!!

Was it easy to repin your wiring harness from a 2 connector to a 3 connector for the ebl P4? Did the P4 come with instructions to repin?

Trying to decide if I get a flash or P4 for my 89 350 TPI

Re: Dynamic EFI EBL flash

I bought his system. I am extremely pleased. RBob is a good guy that sells an excellent product. I have talked to a lot of people that didn't know this set up even existed....too bad, if more people knew this sure would make their lives easier.

Hello from Greensboro (J town actually). I lived in Raleigh several years ago. Great place to live. ...anyhow, I have EBL Flash sitting right here next to me, waiting on me to get the engine built and installed. It's a 383 TPI, but like you, I have an existing '89 350 TPI harness/wiring. Rob PM'd me the repin instructions.

I too have an 89 TPI car. I used the EBL and it was fairly routine to repin. I don't know exactly what is involve changing the connectors for a P4 system but I'm sure it's doable. Either way you have to pay attention and mark some wires and there are other changes necessary under the hood. I am very satisfied with the standard EBL but the P4 does have some advantages and I have wondered if it would have been better. Very good system and if you've tuned with the factory computer with Tunerpro the EBL is almost exactly the same tuning wise but Bob laid out the XDF files a lot better.

Re: Dynamic EFI EBL flash

I purchased EBL about a year and a half ago.

The product is awesome... totally love it!

The tech support is INCREDIBLE. The install and re-pin was super easy- RBob supplied all the right diagrams.

FWIW- RBob is about the nicest and most helpful person I have ever met. Rarely have I ever bought anything with the amount of product support as you get for EBL.

Re: Dynamic EFI EBL flash

Forgive me if this isn't the 'right' thread, but what do these setups go for used? Not trying to take any business away from anyone, but I got an EBL Flash setup with GMPP Intake and Holly throttle body as part of a deal with a camaro I flipped. Just trying to figure if my asking price ($700) is in the ball park and if there is anything specific that I can tell from the ECM sticker to pass on to potential buyers.

Re: Dynamic EFI EBL flash

Is there any chance a Tech Section can be made just for EBL related topics?

I have been driving my IROC now that the weather is better and the car runs pretty sweet. There are some finicky things happening that are no biggie but would like to get some help. I know Bobr is available to discuss anything and he always provided me with superb service.
