Just wondering what cam and heads you guys are running. Im running a 383 with pocket ported TF 23* and a TPIS ZZ409 w/1.6 rr.
Im thinking I want a bigger cam. I drive the car 92% of the time on the street as a daily driver in the summer.
Just wanted to hear some good/bad cam combo's some of you guys have run into, and to avoid. Thanks!

Running 383 MR combo with an Ultradyne 230/238 @ .050 .565/.565 (w/1.6) on a 114 with AFR 195's out of the box. Car is smooth, can drive it around low rpm no prob, decent idle but plenty of power when you get on it.
Looks like my cam is a bit larger than yours and Mkos is a bit smaller.

Can't say that I regret any of the cams I ran in my 383. Cams run:
1. LPE 74219
2. Comp XE HR 230/236 .544/.555 112 lsa
3. Comp XE SR 248/248 .608/.608 112 lsa
The LPE cam worked well but did not have enough top end where the MR likes to run. Best ET 12.0@113.5
Comp XE HR 230/236 worked well. Made peak power at almost 6500 rpm. Car went 11.7@116
Comp XE Solid Roller kicked a$$. The single pattern grind really complimented the AFR heads. Motor felt like it was on NOS above 4500. The idle quality was excellent giving the long duration. Car passed emissions and ran 11.6@118 with cats and street tires. With a stickier set of tires and possibly no cats, the combo could have gone 11.5's since the ET was 11.61. The solid roller works extremely well on the street. It does not require alot of maintenance. It does however require a good set of springs, stud girdle and good rockers.

Now I could do a solid roller. I only drive the car in the summertime, figure 1 lash adjustment per year or so. I do have CC pro magnum rocker arms, CC springs and ARP 7/16 studs, but no girdle.
HiTech5, what AFR heads do you have? 190, 195, 210.....Thanks

Randy - I had AFR 190's on my 383. They were unfortunately destroyed when a rod let loose on my motor.
You will not be disappointed if you decide on the solid roller!

Seriously, the MiniRam is a high-RPM setup. It's made to BREATHE. It will work with virtually ANY cam that you could possibly make run on the street, subject only to your tuning ability. IMO you can go ALOT bigger, especially on the duration. Adding lift much past .500" doesn't usually do much good with the TF heads. I.e. the 1.6 rockers probably aren't doing any good.
I agree, a solid roller would be the way to go. I think you'll find, once you go down that road, you'll NEVER go back to either a hydraulic or a flat-tappet, again.

I always say 92% of the time, being that I own a 92.
It drives my wife nuts.
Im thinking I want a bigger cam, beacuse I dont think my Z is pulling as hard as it should at speed. I did have the bowls in my TF heads fully ported, so I know that is helping the flow somewhat. (looked very purty too) Im running around 10.8 to 1 CR. Ive been thinking about a cam in the 236/242 range, about .550 lift or so. Not sure if I want a lobe sep of 110 or 112? I do prorgam my own proms and have a LM1 so getting my AFR right is not hard to do. I want to get her on the dyno to see what its making for power, but I will have to wait until I get back from Iraq to do it.

My current cam is 230 .600 107 lsa. Still tuning, but runs fine. Previous cam was 242-254 .555-.585 110 lsa and didn't have enough vacuum for power brakes.

I've got Hi-Tech5's old 230/236 cam in my Minirammed 385 and he's right, it's a great cam. I've got a best of 12.40 @ 114.5 out of it so far.

I have a 440 inch sbs with afr 210s that have been worked more than the full cnc port job that you can get from them.. my cam is kind of a mystry (grabbed it off a shelf and stuffed it in lol ) but it does only have 530 lift
.. duration I have no clue but it sounds big..
(numbers are gone on the back)
it would pull to 7,500 no problem and it was a hyd roller..
The car ran mid 11s @ 122 on street tires with a bad trans and i could only run it to 5500 in each gear @ full throttle..
not bad for a stock 89 chip 30lb injs, bumped timing and fuel psi huh?
