Porting HSR furthermore?
I am planning on port maching my HSR as close as I can comfortably to my dart 215 heads, I have a feb 2005 casting that doesnt have the extra meat. I am also going to clean up the casting in the runners.
Looking at the base it seems alot of work could be done by rounding off the D ports into eachother smooth. So that the air travel in the 90 deg transistion from the plenum to the runners Has anyone done this? I would figure the more rounded and fluid shaped the less turbulence would occur. maybe even. Kinda like the idea like attached image shows.
(I know the idea is reversed on the spacer because it merges the air together. While what I am trying to accomplish is spliting the air. Im just using the picture as a exagerated reference.)
Also maybe knocking off the edge inside the plenum blending it into the base,to further radius the change in direction.
What do you guys think?

i also had the same idea about blending the base ports into each other. it should smooth the flow out while it enters the runners. idk if anyone else has done this.
I did a touch of grinding to smooth things out a little,, rolled the edges and put a slight radius on the opening inside the plenum. Before I run it again,,, I plan on laying back the inside of the plenum a little more,,, don't think you need to do much more at the runners. Probably didn't add much if any,, but what the hay? Here's a link to the picture in a previous post,, since I can't seem to add it "twice" in this post.

As some of you know I'm doing the First intake mod to fit my SLP runners. I asked on another forum about the shape of the plenum divider walls as i'm adding a one inch spacer.
Here is the answer I got from one of the most respected porters in the country. I think some will find it of interest.

I forgot to ask. Are you guys port matching to a Felpro 1205 gasket? Any idea what the cross sectional area is of the runner at the plenum? Just curious as I will be porting my First intake and don't want to go to large.

I'm not all that surprised by the reply. A rounded edge facing an airstream is much less destructive to the airflow than a sharp edge. If you ever have access to a supersonic (or not) wind tunnel, do some experimenting. Air doesnt exactly behave like you think it would.
