what is the big deal about it ?

i see so many threads with something about HSR in them but i have no clue what it is

i assume its some kind of fuel injection or something

Billion modifications? Adapt the fuel rails, install the HSR, tune. Sometimes you need to change the distributor, but on 86 and earlier. No big deal.

It just replaces the tpi intake base/runner/plenum. It uses all the same sensors (except egr) and raises the rpm range some as tpi cuts off at 4000-4500.

It IS a MPFI system.

It is NOT TPI ("Tuned Port Injection"), which is a specific system produced by GM, which attempts to produce acoustic reinforcement of cylinder fill events over a narrow range of RPMs, with as little effect as possible on RPMs lower than that range and at the total sacrifice of cyl fill above that RPM range, by using "tuned" (like a wind musical instrument) runners.
