I love my mini ram
Just wanted to say that the mini ram manifold is a wonderful thing. Much better then the tpi setup. I thought I was going to lose some tourqe but right now I think I am making more. I was tired of losing power after 4000rpm. I will be going to the track this weekend to see how my new setup performs.

Mini ram
l98 heads ported and 3 angle valve job(cant afford aftermarket heads right now.)
zz9 cam, 24lb injectors
edelbrock tes headers
3" hooker exhaust(areo chambered muffler)
1.5 roller rockers,hardened push rods,springs
bored .30 over/ forged pistons
under drive pullys
chip burned by fast chips
shift kit
I will post track times in a few days. hopping to reach high 12's after I install a torque convertor and 3.73 or maybe 3.90 gears. Not sure were to start on my suspension. what do you guys recommend? I will be using NOS on this engine sooner or later and I think this engine has alot of potintal when I buy some AFR's this winter.

This is what a MiniRam looks like (and a solid roller cam).
Not hard to imagine it on top of a motor.

I've got a Miniram too, it's awesome. I had to have one when I first saw it. Best manifold I've ever had. Looks killer and performs just the same !!!!

Please for the sake of Winona Ryder get your car dyno tuned or tune it yourself when you get the chance. I'm dying to see what a car like that can run.

JC - If you're running at Union Grove, you may have problems on the launch. I never could get good traction there. I had my best luck at Byron.
My suggestion is to bring a dist wrench and timing light. Make a run or 2 at 34 degrees timing. Then start increasing timing 2 degrees at a time. My 383 with 11.5 compression turned best times with 38 degrees total timing. The MR likes an aggressive timing curve. The other tool I highly recommend is a Wideband A/F guage. They have come down significantly in price and are well worth $3-$400.
Good luck!

12.50's 112mph on bad 60's, 80* temps. no special " mineshaft air" it's got more in it w/current combo (could use more gear and conv.). However I'm getting ready to put in a big inch bullit and going to a solid rear (trying to get rear parts now)over the winter, hopefully back up by next spring.

Re: I love my mini ram
those were from last year before I actually finished some wot/pe tuning 1.9, 60 etc. I would have to pull out the dl's but I remember the dc getting as big as 99.5 running at a 12.5ish afr tapering richer towards 62k, which pushed it down to 12.0, @ 27ish*.
Since then I have done some suspension and tire press. tweaks this year.
Re-worked timing and afr to nearer the 12.7-8ish w/ 29*. Duty cycle last time I took a blast was still 90ish if memory serves. However, I think I have made some gains since last year, and maybe a bit on the et w/current tune etc, just haven't gone this year yet and maybe I need to go on a 40* day like everyone on "other boards" lol....

While it's true the 083 heads can't keep up with a big port head like the AFR's, don't knock them for street use after they've recieved a full port job.

Re: I love my mini ram
Yeah I think your right about getting a dyno tune because I ran a 14.6 at the track the other day and I am very upset. The only thing I can think of is that Fast Chips didnt do a good job burning my chip. There are no shops around me to give me a custom tune and there is know way I can do it myself. Is there anyone out there that can burn my chip for me that lives in illinois.

Even still, 14.6 is stupid slow. Slower than a stock L98. My buddies '89 GTA with just headers and my tuning goes 13.80s. My cousins stock '90 vette goes 14.0 all day.
I think you have an additional problem, or were losing traction. What was your MPH?

Hey JC,
Don't feel Bad, I did the exact same thing many years ago before I installed my Mini_Ram.
Make sure that your check your timing and fuel presure. What were your 60 foot times and your shift points?
I had Ed burn me a chip and it wasn'f much better than the stock setup I had. I got him to send me a few more and never ran better than a 13.7 with a combo close to yours but a TPI intake. I lived with it for 1 year and a half and I ended up saving for the F.A.S.T system. I figured I am keeping the car forever and I know I want to be able to make changes in the future. I did not want to be tied to a tunner for every new power adder I wanted to play with. So I saved up and I am glad I did. When I Changed to my Mini-Ram, I just hooked up the laptop and changed the fuel map and I was back in business. I am not saying that their aren't any good tunners out there, but unless you take it to a dyno to tune the car properly. It is hard to get all the potential out of your engine with out it.

Well I just bought all of my chip burning equipment and I have started to tune it with a buddy and hopefully I can get it running good soon. Man when I checked to see what was on my mail ordered chip they where way off. I will never buy a mail ordered chip again.

Re: I love my mini ram
Congratulations! You have just had the revelation that many of the board members have had and have posted over the years. It is hard to properly tune a car and give her what she wants over the internet. You will get there. It took me a bit of time to get my combo dialed in (then i wanted more
)
If I might make another suggestion, invest in a wide band O2 sensor. There are many on the market and it will be worth the money - trust me. Innovate makes some very nice products but there are others as well.
Have fun dialing it in. Sounds like a killer combo!

How much did the miniram set up cost and did the themostat water neck give anyone problems or did that get fixed?
