Re: Edelbrock intake

One thing struck me right away. I have an '87 IROCZ; there is no way to mount the throotle bracket to the driver side of the intake. It appears there are bosses on the passenger side for this, but it wont work for me. This hit me because I am right now installing the HSR.

The one piece casting looks pretty nice, but how it performs would be based on the volume of the plenum and dimensions of the runners.

Re: Edelbrock intake

the pro-flo XT uses a Gen III style throttle body and they have the throttle cable on the pass. side. I think its edelbrocks version of the RamJet.

I almost ordered one but decided to go with somthing else.

Re: Edelbrock intake

I looked at it at the Gatornations. I asked what kind of brackets they had for it. The guy said it came as a complete kit. I had to show him what page in the catalog, it was listed as bare manifold. I asked him what kind of cables I needed to connect the throttle and 700 tv, he told me they don't make a bracket yet. The Bracket that was on it had slots with about 1.5 inches of adjustment. They had a small groove and a bolt hole next to it. I think it used newer style cables like vortec truck throttle bodies. I think you could cut off the back side of the stock bracket and weld it to this one. The funny thing is the 4bl 90s adapters had the same bracket. I know they both are for ls1 style throlle bodies. Don't they think poeple with install them on older cars. If you have small block, chances are you are going use a 700r4 tranny. Does Lokar make cables like this? The fuel rail bolted to the side of the manifold. It takes both sized injectors. The kit had a machined spot for a new style map. The bare manifold doesn't have it. Why can't someone make a good efi for the most popular engine ever made. Every one has a tragic flaw. One wonder people still run carbs. They come out with new carb intakes. I want to dump my tpi, but can't decide what to replace it with. This manifold was the top contender, but I think the single plane is the way to go. Now, tbi is looking good.

Re: Edelbrock intake

I looked into using this and even had the 90mm tb for it. However at the last minute I did some final research and found out that it might require special short injectors. I looked through the installation instructions online and saw that they only offer 2 sizes and the largest was 28 or 30lbs I believe and wouldn't be enough for my needs. I am not sure if longer ones could be used with different fuel rails or something and I never got for sure confirmation from Edelbrock about them requiring the short ones because they never answered their phone nor the emails I sent.

Re: Edelbrock intake

If you look at the picture of the intake you can see two mounting holes for the rail. One is for the short injectors and one for longer ones. The same fuel rail is used for both.

thats because they are all ProFlo XT manifolds. The one in your link is for the LS1, the pic in the first post is the SBC manifold, they have part#'s for SBF and BB Chryslers also.

Wow, to be honest, I NEVER noticed that. I might have to give this intake another look then. This coming after I sold my 90mm tb though...

Re: Edelbrock intake

Anyone using one yet?

The Manifold is $415, and the fuel rails are $117.

Would need a front and rear crossover, AFPR, and LSx throttle body.

Re: Edelbrock intake

I've got one coming. After much deliberation, I bit the bullet. I'll be trying to get it to work on an 86 Y-body though, so I have some hood clearance issues. I plan on attacking it with the use of a Ford 5.0 TB. Extra work for me, you guys could just use any LSx style TB and clear fine as Joe said (except maybe Formulas? I can't remember which one has problems with hood clearance.)

Joe and others, I have a lot of questions about how I should do the lines. (Barbed or SS etc) and I'm watching to see if there is a cheaper way to do the regulator. Ouch, limited budgets are impeding my progress.

Sadly initially it will be going on a 383 motor with an LPE 219cam, not ideal but if it improves with that cam, a nice 230/230 lift cam should really perk it up.

Also, I know it has two sets of mounting holes, but there are brackets that are needed for using regular height injectors. I believe, based on my research (still waiting for a confirmation on the other thread) that you could by the ProProducts rail/regulator kit and be good to go.

I'll let you know more as I get it.

I'll have to check out the other thread.

For the crossover, I was most happy with the way holley does it with hard lines:

The feed in the front, left (driver). Crossover in front and rear. Regulator is on the right rail, and returns to tank.

Re: Edelbrock intake

Yeah, that is nice. I made a new thread as to not hijack this one. But I'm curious about using twist-lock lines and how best to do an adjustable regulator on the cheap.
