Can't take the car out till spring but since putting on the HSR I've been getting anxious. I'd like to get an idea of what gains or losses I may have.
Last years combo
Orginal bottom end 350
Compression 9:2/1
Xram
2 inch TB's
Crane PowerMax 2040 cam (mild)
Dart Ironeagle heads 165cc/72cc 1.94/1.5
2500 Stall
Headers N/Cat Borla mufflers
D44 with 3.45's
On Nitto 555r drag radials
Best at the track
13.3 @ 99
Best 60ft I think was 1.98 My Worst I remember was a 2.4
At this point only Mod was HSR
Can I maybe at least break into the 12's
Sitting in the garage getting ready to put in once after I make a few passes on the track with the HSR
I am going to go with
Patriot heads 190cc/64cc 2.02/1.6
XE268H Comp Cam
224/230
268/280
.477 / .480 ( I already have 1.6 rr's, so my lift should be higher)
Lobe Centerline 114 LSA
Intake Centerline 110 LSA
Like I said just trying to get an idea of what I should be expecting for now along with after the new heads and cams
thanks Guys!

Maybe i've leaving this question to wide open and thats why I haven't gotten any replies.
Let me ask this. With either of the combos should I at least break the 300rwhp mark that i haven't been able to get passed when using the Xram?

Here's my combo (see sig) for a comparison, I hope it helps. For my combo, the HSR ('ported') added 60+ whp up top, with very little trade-off of low-end power.

Thanks for your reply. I've been using comp cams cam selection tool and I think the dyno graph in there is a little bit over inflated. Tells me with my combo and the 268H cam I'd see 520 at the flywheel. Yeah right! Your numbers seem a bit more realistic. Thinking I should be someplace around 315-325 at the wheels then.

I'm in the same boat, throwing an HSR on a 355 with RHS pro-torkers 170cc intake 1.94/1.5's and the same XE-268 cam, I'm pretty much throwing every bolt on at it and everything I can think of to pull every last bit of power out of it when its done. CamQuest says 391hp at 5500 and 424ft/lbs at 4000, we'll see what happens

your car should be able to run 12.90's or even 12.60's if you can drive well, but that 2500 stall sucks, I have a B&M 2400 holeshot now, it only stalls to 1750 with the tpi intake, it would only to 1500, stock 1350. Now I have a 3000 midwest converter, but soon I'm switching to a th-350, the 700 sucks, who needs overdrive, and wide gear spacking? It doesn't help for the track or with the HSR, this HSR makes most of its power from 3700-6000+ Mine screams, but notice the shortshifts on youtube. Search for cronsformula350

IT should go if the car can launch. 13.3 at 99 already is very good. HSR should give you top end and really drop the ET. I do not know much about x-rams but with my L98 TPI car, a simple HSR swap and underdrive pulleys netted me about .4 and 4 mphAt this point only Mod was HSR

What stall/converter would be best for this or many HSR setups?

It's really going to be the tune that makes the difference between the 2. The HSR is going to need much more fuel above 4000 rpm. The ignition timing will need to be much more aggressive. You will want to bring full ign timing in by 3000 rpm. Shoot for 36-38 degrees total. Also, watch out for false knock causing the computer to pull timing.
Good luck.
Good luck.
converter for that setup? I'd say for mostly dragstrip use for best ET's, 3500-3600 stall. More street, 2800-3000 stall.
i can agree with most of what is being said. im running the HSR and i had to tune it myself, the HSR even on my 383 loves to rev. its scary how fast the RPM climbs even with my HSR on a 383 vs the stock tpi on my 350. im running a 2900 stall but i have patriot 190cc heads ported and portmatched to felpro1206s, i also ported and portmatched the HSR to the 1206s. im running a 58mm TB and 30lb SVO injectors. comp cams XFI280 cam, LS7 roller lifters, 1.6rr, and a stock MAF ECM with me tuning it. i have fuel pressure at 43.5ish with an adjustable billet kirban unit. i have march crank underdrive pulley and base timing at 8 BTDC.
my tune is rather mild but doing it with no datalogging and no wideband proved to be hard. i took a tune done by craig moates himself and started modifing, i also got alot of help from orrz89iroc. i set injector constant and base timeing in the chip and added ALOT of fuel! my car loves to run pig rich, and i needed alot of accelerator enrichment to get rid of a initial throttle stab bog that i had. timing is a flat curve up to like 34ish, i believe the idle timing is around 15-18 but i havent looked at it in a while.
My HSR can break my 315 tires loose very easily and it a blast to drive on the street, even with the 2900 stall. at the track i could only muster a 13.5 at 111mph but i blew 2 lifters and snapped a rocker stud and destroyed my new 300$ XFI280 cam. (i was running Speed pro stock replacement lifters when they blew now i went with LS7 lifters, dnt use SPEED PROS!) I was running 225/50/16 bald crown victoria tires at the track (didnt have the 315s yet) and the best i could muster was a 2.24 60' and a 13.5 at 111mph. my stock L98 TPI with SLP runners and ported plenum and a motorvation chip only ran a 14.8 at 98mph with a broken posi on nitto 555s. my 60' was horrible with the 383 bc i couldnt get it to hook i hope to get the 60' in the 1.8 range with some drag radials this spring and im hoping to pick up some MPH at the same time. i expect high 11s all motor.
you want to match the converter stall to the cam not the intake as much. comp said thati needed a min stall of 2400 for the cam. i went with 2900 but it really only stalls at like 2200ish on the street bc thats what i drive it mostly on but it will flash to 2900 when i get on it. i dn recomend over 3000 on the street, u will destroy you gas mileage... i get maybe 8-10mpg with mine. but the HSR likes more stall as stated before, something in the 3000-3600 range would be better for the track. and the HSR destroys the TPI at 3600 and above. but i didnt notice any low end tq loss with my motor either.
watch out for the timing as well... too much and u will get knock! i had alot of timing ramped in by like 3400ish and then it kinda kept curving up alittle. you will need more timing fast and since the HSR will idle with as much as 20degrees at idle (depending on ur cam) i would be careful and i would watch the knocks.
Just give the motor what it wants.... not everything will apply to u or your steup so just keep playing around and keep giving it what it wants.
