HSR no fire

hey everyone. i just finally got my HSR installed. its got FMS 30lb injectors and edelbrock fuel rails. aeromotive bypass regulator. i know theres spark, and there is definetly fuel flowing. but the car wont fire! i turn the key and the fuel pressure goes up to 80 on the gauge and then quickly drops to near 0. regualtor is installed after rails before going to return line. car turns over and all, and wants to start with starting fluid and almost did, but just wont. it actually blew the pcv valve out of the valve cover today. i need this thing running by friday. i found tdc and installed the dizzy, its got a custom tune from pcmforless. i am at a loss. so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Re: HSR no fire

dont know how the aero regs are setup but i used a professional products on mine and it has 3 ports on it. 2 on the sides can be used to connect to fuel rail (one or the other, not both) and the one on the bottom hooks to the return line. check to make sure your using the right ports cuz i had mine mixed up at first and it did near the same as what your describing

Re: HSR no fire

it sounds like it's at your regulator... you have a stock fuel pump with the check valve Correct??? you should not be dropping pressure that fast

Re: HSR no fire

it is a 2 port reg. 1 inlet and one return. brand new, just got it a month ago and this is the first time ive had it hooked up.

the fuel pump is kind of loud, so i was thinking it may be a walboro(sp?)? so im not sure on that end of things.

do you really think it could be a defective regulator? its an Aeromotive 13105 regulator. found HERE

Re: HSR no fire

Sock is new?? where and what fuel filter do you have... you have the walbro intank pump
I have never had luck with the aftermarket pumps like master, walbro
some guy's in here say.. they never have problems???
I would start with the fuel Pump... how are you feeding your rails???
I still think it's the regulator... you should be holding pressure.. 80 # when primed is very high.. should be 40 ish....

Re: HSR no fire

This pump hasn't given me problems since I've owned the car for two years. It is an in line fuel filter In the stock location. That is also newer. I have my system setup as inlet line to fuel rail then connector line to second rail. From the end of the second rail it goes to the inlet port on the regulator then from the return port to the return line. All of the lines in the engine bay are -6an steel braided.

you may have to much pressure... you said when it primed it was 80 PSI

Re: HSR no fire

temporarily plug the rail with the regulator on it
to see if you hold pressure and start..
I still think that regulator is dumping everything back to the tank.. it should hold pressure
as above I have a 3 way regulator IN / OUT / Return

Re: HSR no fire

What does fuel pressure do when your cranking the engine over?

Maybe try putting your stock chip in also just to test its not the problem. Only other thing I can think of is maybe your dizzy is not in the right spot.

Also I wouldn't worry to much about the fuel pressure dropping off, both my stock pump and my new walbro pump did the same thing and the car ran fine.

Re: HSR no fire

It is a stock replacement fuel filter. Ok thank. I'll un hook the return line and find a way to plug it. I probably should have gone with the 3 fitting regulator. But I dot think summit will exchange it atthis point. But does it sound like I have my fuel system plumbed properly? I don't know why the reg would be dumping the fuel right back int the retrn and not holding any pressure...

Re: HSR no fire

The only other Chip I have is a hypertech chip that came with the car. But I will try it later tonight. Also when you install the dizzy you find tdc and point the rotor towards number one plug wire, correct?

Yes just make sure it's on the compression stroke.

Re: HSR no fire

Once your on your compression stroke use your timing marks on you harmonic balancer to put it at TDC then slap in your dizzy, should make it easier for ya.

Re: HSR no fire

cant have compression on the way down. That would be vacuum. Easiest thing to try is either take out the dizzy and rotate it 180 degrees or faster would be if you have enough play in the distributor wires then move them all over 4 spaces. If that solves the problem then put them back to normal and remove the dizzy to rotate it. also make sure it is the right firing order and that you are wiring it clockwise.

Re: HSR no fire

ok. well i cant rotate this thing by hand. so i dunno how to get it ligned back up to tdc. i just took everything apart. and i cant rotate it by the balancer. aggrivating.

Re: HSR no fire

well i got everything reinstalled. i had my mom watch my fp gauge and she said its holding steady at about 50 psi during cranking. it still wont fire, but it is popping air back out the tb when i floor it and crank it. so im thinking i need to rotate the dizzy 180*. so do i have to turn the rotor 180 degrees? or change the plug wires 180 degrees? or both?

Great to hear! I think I may have the same problem as you after installing my hsr combo. Hopefully this will get me running too!
