anyone ever convert a Torker II to EFI?

I have a Torker II laying around here and am debating an EFI conversion on it. I've heard these are sorta marginal intakes but I'm planning on putting it on a 305 CID so the smallish runner area isn't quite as big of a deal and may be preferred.

I have a set of professional products rails, and can order a set of bungs for cheap. Excluding the adapter for the TB unit (thinking a Rochester 220 gutted, or a Dodge TBI unit both are on hand) In all I would be in this about $125 including the intake, rails TB and any adapters I need. Do you guys think that this would be a worth while upgrade from a standard TPI intake at all?

Re: anyone ever convert a Torker II to EFI?

Considering how overall terrible an intake that is, I wouldn't waste the time effort & money on it, unless you've got plenty of all 3 to spare and just want to satisfy your curiosity. Its problems go deeper than just, smallish runners; the junctions where things meet, the shapes of the runners and plenum, the way the air flows, the relationship of runner size to plenum volume, all of it is just .... wrong. I'm not sure what they were thinking when they designed that, beyond just being able to claim that it was a single plane that a hood would close on; but it didn't work.

As far as an upgrade from TPI, hard to say; about anything is. TPI is just about as obsolete as the T2, and its design was intended for the tastes of the day, the speed limits of the day, and lots of other stuff of the day that had it not been like that at the time, they probably would have done differently. However all that may be, I wouldn't say TPI is "bad", so mcuh as, that the world around it has changed and left it behind in the dust, and did so within the first year or 2 of its existence.

But considering how cheeep a GOOD used intake is, like a Vic Jr or Strip Dominator or some such, I'd avoid wasting money on a project with such a high probability of disappointment, like a T2. Kind of like spending money rebuilding a "free" 305 core, knowwutahmean?

An engine always needs it's parts well-matched for best results.

*If the ports are reasonably matched to your head ports
*If the cam is well matched to it
*If the car is geared / torque converter equipped to match a higher rpm 305
*If you can get the bungs TIGed on nicely

Then yes it would be an improvement over the TPI intake.
I say this because a cammed Q-jet 305 is a lot stronger than a stock cam TPI 305.

And I too, would probably
1 - buy an already bung-equipped intake. There are so many options out there in 4bbl style.
2 - start with a 350 when going to that much effort.
