Edelbrock single plane questions

Hey I have a a 383 with 9.75-1 compression it has Edelbrock lower tpi intake with SLP runners, mildly ported stock heads, edelbrock coated tes exhaust and a small comp cam. with flowmaster cat-back. I have bought a Edelbrock 29135 single plane with 36lb injectors with aeromotive FPR with edelbrock 3850 elbow with 1 inch spacer for more plenum volume,78mm LS1 throttle body, Mildly ported Vortec heads (basically pocket clean up), Comp XFI292 camshafts with springs, pushrods etc... I was basically wondering what kind of power you guys think it will make. And who all could you guys recommend to tune the car?

Re: Edelbrock single plane questions

I dont think the 292xfi will be to happy with that setup. Its a pretty big cam and really hard to control the valves. Springs need to be really stout and that puts a beating on the lifters.

Single plane and vortecs however will pick up good bit of power, but you'll want a better cam matched to that setup.

Re: Edelbrock single plane questions

Try it with a good stiff double spring like patriot extreme gold kit or i can direct you to speier racing for a similar spring or run a PAC 1219 beehive kit

Dont use stock lifters get atleast ls7's. They have a bit stiffer internal spring and will handle higher spring loads and rpm

Re: Edelbrock single plane questions

Ill be honest get that cam out of there its not gonna run
By the time that cam and intake starts working the heads will be out of breath.

Be a bitch to tune, too.

Re: Edelbrock single plane questions

Alright guys yall see my combo 383 stroker (eagle kit with 9.75-1 compression, Edelbrock TES ceramic coated headers, Flowmaster stainless catback, MSD 6AL with tmiing control, MSD blaster coil, Taylor thundervolt wires, Edelbrock 29135 intake and 36lb injectors and rails to match with aeromotive FPR, Edelbrock 3850 elbow with 1" inch spacer, 78mm LS1 throttle body, Mildly ported Vortec heads (basically pocket clean up), ZEX 125hp nitrous on a nozzle with bottle warmer, gauge and purge kit. I would like 2500-2800ish converter max and gonna put 3.73's in the back end along with moser's and a detroit true-trac with girdled cover. Just wondering what cam would you guys think would work the best my first options before were the XR282HR, XFI280, XR288HR and a lunati that was kinda close to that. Just gimme yall's opinion on which cam, what kinda power with a good tune I should make and just a guess on my 1/4 mile et's

Re: Edelbrock single plane questions

The 282 is a good mild cam and easy to control. Xfi is abit better suited to other heads imo but also can work. Id just rather see something on a tighter lsa with the single plane

Agreed, try to stick with a cam at 230/236.

Re: Edelbrock single plane questions

I was discussing the LS7 hyd roller lifters that are now the GM replacements for all LS motors. They have a stronger plunger spring inside (So I was told) that can handle higher loads from stiffer valvesprings. They are a good choice for most aggressive hyd rollers

Re: Edelbrock single plane questions

Aight Got my combo completed Mildly ported vortecs with screw in studs, Edelbrock 29135 intake, 36lb injectors, aeromotive FPR, Edelbrock 3848 elbow with 1 inch spacer for more plenum volume, 78mm LS1 throttle body, Edelbrock ceramic coated TES exhaust, Flowmaster cat-back, Comp XR282HR and a little bit thinner head gaskets to get compression up to 10.0-1 even. Hoping to make 425 on motor alone then add spray. ORR you have any idea what kinda power and times this car could run on motor and then on 125 shot? I want mid 11's on spray if possible, think it's acheivable?

With proper suspension, you should be able to do low 12 to high 11's. There are many articles (and threads on here) about HSR 350's with milder cams doing 12's all day long. One of the first magazine articles about the HSR had that Camaro doing 12's with few modifications.

Not sure what you mean by "tune from." I am VERY biased towards MegaSquirt. I have the new version 3.57 extra and am extremely pleased. With a wide band, it tunes itself to whatever AFR you want. Otherwise tunerPro is fine to use, but if you go that route, step up to Rbob's flash based module. I have a .bin file that could probably get you running and driving. (or a .msq for megaSquirt)
