Anyone have issues with Accel base not sealing with milled heads?

I'm getting ready to install my Super Ram and was wondering if anyone has had issues with the base not sealing properly with heads that have been milled? The heads are AFR 1040's milled to 60cc. The bolt holes on the base seem to match up ok with the heads. AFR suggested using thicker intake gaskets with milled heads on their website. Has anyone had to do this?

Depending how much is cut off the heads ( or block ) it is typical to machine the intake to match

Re: Anyone have issues with Accel base not sealing with milled heads?

I had some AFR's that started life at 78cc and got milled down to 58cc. I have used various intakes with these heads all with a fel-pro 1266 gasket. The fel-pro 1266 gasket is twice as thick as the stanadard 1206. I think the standard gasket is .030 and the 1266 is .060. I still smear rtv on the entire gasket to be sure I get no leaks. Makes it messy to clean up, but i would rather get the intake to seal.

You will have to place the intake on the heads/block with no gasket and measure the space. Make sure the intake ports/holes match up angle-wise. If your intake has not been milled to correct the angles, I would have this done if the angles look funky. when I had my heads milled, the intake was milled also.

You can look on fel-pro's website or summit racing and find different thicknesses of intake gaskets to suit your needs.

Mr Gasket makes many thicknesses of gaskets also
Think not checking this stuff is the cause of many "Just got my new motor running and its blowing smoke" threads.

Re: Anyone have issues with Accel base not sealing with milled heads?

Finally got around to test fitting the intake and all the bolt holes line up and thread into the heads with no issues. The angles look ok to me too. What do you guys think? This is with 1205 gaskets between the heads and intake.

It does seem like the intake gaskets stick up a bit past the intake though. You can see some of the blue silicone stuff that surrounds the ports poking past the manifold. Should I be concerned about this? The blue stuff between the center most bolts is just painters tape I used to hold the gaskets in place. It also looks like someone re-drilled the two center-most bolts of the base. Is this another issue I should be worried about?

Well, kinda forgot about this thread... Ended up not being an issue. Everything sealed up just fine.
