Re: Sorting out the T-ram car

Yeah on some good radials it should rattle off a 12 second pass I would think! The converter is the only thing that will hold it back from that. The 3.42's won't help much out of the hole but once it's rolling it has enough power to overcome that! I think it will run a 12.99 atleast, on a good day in good air it might be faster. I took it for a drive last night and it sure drives nice. It almost feels like a dead cylinder a little bit at mid range, I might have the preload on the lifters set a little too tight, or the plugs might just be wet from messing around with that stumble for a while before swapping it. None the less it works well for an old girl!

Re: Sorting out the T-ram car

Today the ARP wheel studs, moser axles, moser aluminum girdle cover, and rear control arm relocation brackets all showed up. Going to throw that all in it tomorrow, throw the drag radials on it, and take it out for some test hits at the track this week. I have a set of 6 year old nitto drag radials in 315/35/17, I'll have to get them hot and make a few warm hits on them to get the oils back out of them and sticky but they should hook pretty well on it. I'm wondering now how much timing I should run in it. I'm thinking about 11 degrees, I have it at 7 right now

Re: Sorting out the T-ram car

I never got the car to ping or pull timing, wouldnt hurt to start at 11 and back it off if it feels like it's laying down / hear ping. The transmission was such a weird deal with that car, it took a several months for Bellevue transmission to get it right, then a year later the torque converter went out. The guy that had run the shop left and the owner took over, he and I didnt see eye to eye and it took almost another year for them to get it close to what it was before. The owner actually told me this was the last time his shop was going to work on it and I took it home to test drive it. It was all wrong, I brought it back the following week ready to go toe to toe with the owner and guess who was back? The general manager I had dealt with before. I told him to test drive it and if he felt it was right I would be on my way. He came back pissed. It wasnt close to being right, they didnt account for the shift kit or added clutch packs. They had another converter made for it that was a tighter than the original but it worked OK along with everything else they had done so I left sorta satisfied.

With the original converter, small cam and T-Ram and crappy GSC's it would pull 1.80 sixty foot times, every time with light wheel spin. Not sure how the HSR impacts TQ below 3K RPM, but it should pull better than that settup with drag radials.

Re: Sorting out the T-ram car

Our track prep isn't anything to write home about but it's not terrible. My bolt ons 4th gen I can get high 1.50 60's with it, and my headers, stall, gears 92 L98 I can get a low low 1.80 with it. I'm assuming I should still be able to get it down in the 1.80's if I can get it planted good. I wish it had a little more converter and a little more gear but it's a street car and has great street manners. We will see how it does!

Re: Sorting out the T-ram car

I didn't make if for this Wednesday's drags as far as running the car. But I did find my "dead hole" lol #5 plug was cracked which is strange because I put fresh plugs in it the second day I had it. Runs a ton smoother and sounds more crisp at an idle for sure. I'm real contemplating trying setting up gears myself for the first time. It's really long legged, I know some 4.10's would wake it up a ton.

Re: Sorting out the T-ram car

It's got 3.42's now, along with a about a 2500 RPM stall converter. I would suggest running it as is then looking for a bolt in 9". Don't waste your time / money putting gears in that diff.

Re: Sorting out the T-ram car

I'm going to throw a 4.10 gear set in the 10 bolt for this car. The 10 bolts aren't really as terrible as everybody makes them seem. as long as you're not going in and out of traction, wheel hopping, or in a stick shift car the 10 bolts will hold up to a lot. In my personal and my dad's personal 4th gen ET bracket cars we both consistently ran high 11's with low low 1.60 60ft times on 10 bolts. The only reason I ended up doing an S60 in mine was I wanted to do more street duty with the car and I used cheap motive gears and I run a midwest chassis tunnel mount arm and it transfers every single big of gear noise into the car. But I have run plenty of 10 bolts in fast-ish cars the launch good. I am 100% confident that a set of good spicer quiet gears, tighten up the stock posi, and the chromoly axle shafts and this thing will hold up just fine.

On another note this car gets a wild amount of attention. It really turns heads!

Re: Sorting out the T-ram car

So I have been busy with all 3 of my camaros lately, as well as finishing up my longest project of my pro touring build on my high school Nova. But the blue one got 4.10's put in it, ARP studs, LCARB's, 17x8/17x11 torque thrusts, and drag radials. It was working pretty well, so I decided we would take it to the track. I went out with all 3 cars, I drove my 92 out, my buddy Jeff drove the 87 out, and my dad drove my 00 out. My dad ran my 00 bracket car, and it ran consistent and deadly as always. I tried to run the blue one but it was having shifting issues, it'll go in to my trans guy tomorrow. at WOT it was shifting at 2900rpm on the 1-2 shift, and you couldn't get it to hold 1st manually. Then you could get it to hold 2nd gear but as soon as you shift it to 3rd it would immediately shift itself into 4th and lock the converter up. I didn't want to hurt it so only made 2 passes about half way then let out as I didn't want to break something in the trans. But I did manage to get a 1.89 60ft out of it which is pretty decent I feel for how tight that converter is. I could foot brake it to about 2000 if I pushed it real hard but it seems happy at 1500-1600 on the foot brake. Then Jeff fell head over heels in love with it even after it having issues, and he wanted it bad, and made me an offer on the car. He is a super big car buff, in his stable he has a 66 chevelle SS 396 4 speed, a 68 chevelle ragtop, a 70 chevelle that his parents bought new, a collectors edition LT4 C4, a C5 collectors edition, and now the blue iroc. All of his cars he keeps in mint condition. He plans on keeping it exactly how it is and bracket racing it on Wednesday nights at PIR occasionally. Here's some pics of all 3!

Re: Sorting out the T-ram car

Charlie, I cant thank you enough for doing everything you have, I knew you were the right person to be the care taker for the car as well as the SLP parts. Thank you for getting it back on the road and better yet, finding it a great home. I am disappointed to hear that the transmission is having issues, were any of the issues present before swapping the intake? Hopefully it's just an issue with the TV cable or from just sitting for a long period of time.

I thought of you this morning as I was driving to work and watched a bright red 93-95 Formula go by in the opposite direction. The car had bright yellow Fire Hawk script just like a 91 Hawk on the lower front of the doors. It looked like he was trying to create 4th gen version of the 3rd gen. It was cool, much cooler than the 4th gen Hawks.

Best of luck to you my friend, keep posting on your T-Ram swap, I am eager to hear it run!

Re: Sorting out the T-ram car

I can't wait to get the T ram on my 92 now, I am sorting out what throttle body / injectors I'm going to run with such a mild setup. I also talked with my tuner and he is super excited to tune it once its together! I am encouraging Jeff to get on the forums and post more about the car. It will definitely be well taken care of, and well loved. My tranny guy looked at it today and he said all that's wrong is the cable is out of adjustment, he said he sees them with stretched housings all the time and he can get a new cable that has more adjustment and fix all of the issues 100%! he said it should be done tomorrow and ready to give it another shot at the track next week! I help prep the new owners racecars as it is, so I will still be taking care of this car for years to come and continuing to make it better with Jeff. He's retired and loves nothing more than making all of his cars better and better all the time. There will be no shortage of attention being paid to the 87 for sure! I couldn't be happier that it is staying local, going to such a good home, and that I was able to get the T ram, and SLP wheels for my 92. It was a bit of a jump buying the whole car as a non runner to get an intake manifold, but in the end I couldn't be happier with how it all worked out.

Re: Sorting out the T-ram car

Still toying with the car for its new owner. It surprised the hell out of me today... it passed city of Portland Smog lol I was full heartedly expecting it to fail the sniff and do classic car plates on it.
