hey everyone. I am about to make an attempt at making my rear end a little stronger.
I've read that one thing you should do is change the rear cover to something beefier. I've been looking at this item made by AAM. Question I have is that a lot of times you are reading about aluminum cover, a girdle and longer studs (think that's what they are). Does this item have all that, or is it just a cover? Is there anything better?
I can picture how girdle looks and works. What are longer studs? where do they go and what's their function?

for a little more you can do better, find one with set screw that go aginst the bearing caps and are locked in place by jam nuts. also some covers have provisions for braces that go to the ends of the axle tubes.

That SLP part is just a cover. It won't do anything to improve the life of the rearend. You need a TA style girlde like the one pictured above. I buy mine direct from TA Performance. They're Buick guys, but they make a good product anyway : ) They cost a little more than some of the knockoffs, but they were the original, and IMO still the best. I've got one on my Camaro and my Blazer, and installed one on my friend's F150 Lightening.
TA sells a stud kit to replace the carrier cap bolts. These will improve strength and durability too.

thanks guys, now I see the difference. What do you think about moser version moser version of the same thing? With stud kit, it is same price as TA. Reason I am asking is because I also want to order few more parts like axles (I think $240 from them), so I am looking if I can consolidate everything into one order.

In truth I think the Moser girdle is manufactured by TA, and they just stick Moser's name on it. I spoke with a rep from TA that said they do a lot of things like that. He said that if you ordered them in sufficient quantity they would put your name on it if you wanted!
BTW, the Moser axels are great. I'm running a set of 28-spline ones in my car now.
If you are going to do gears I highly recommend Yukon gears from Randy's Ring & Pinion. They are all I've used for the past five years. The quality is first rate, the price is good, and they set up well every time, unlike some cheapie foreign made gears that cost significantly less.

yep. I just bought 4.10 gears and master rebuid kit from randy's. I agree they are good guys. The only thing I don't like about them is the logo.

For once I actually got lucky on something and showed up at the company I used to work for at the right time. They are moving to a smaller office and I bought 2 workbenches for $15 bucks a pop. I am bringing them to home on friday. (yeah, I had to share that
) I'll be putting them to good use.
