Would appreciate some advice ;_;

Just got my car back, from the paint shop, 2 days ago...

The work that they did looks rushed. I know they've been working on a Vette for the past week, but it's no excuse for them to do crappy work on my car is it?

For the most part, the paint looks good, however I've already been back up there two times; one, for a spot that was mostly buffed out; two, for a place that needs to be chipped off, sanded down, painted and blended.

Now I'm seeing that some of the door, on the lowest right hand corner, has not been painted, and if you look closely you can see that they used double orange lines, for my stripes, instead of one solid band of orange.

The paint is not adhering to the pass door, around the lock, but this was done a few months ago, after my wreck, and they didn't charge extra for it.

The hood was also repainted after my accident, but someone did not sand down the corner, where the hood slammed into the fender, they just put a clear coat over it...

I really don't know what I should do. I know the shop could have done better, I've seen the custo jobs and other things. I think they're trying to get your car back to you, in record time. It's just that I've been back up there so much, now I don't know what to do.

Should I go back up there, and tell them I have a problem, or should I leave them alone...???

If it were my car, I'd seriously go back. This isn't some small thing that isn't serious, it's the paint on the car - and that in my opinion is very important... I'd keep going back till it's done right, and if they get irritated with you, then I'd take it somewhere else. Is there any kind of warranty or guarantee on it?

I agree.

They have failed to perform what you have paid them to do. I would suggest taking some time and going over the entire car in good light searching for any mistakes. Then take it to them and go through every instance with the shop. Book a time that is convenient for the shop to spend some time on the car and not rush the job. Once the car is finish, inspect it at the shop with someone there.

If the job comes with a guarantee, read it. What are its limits? Without a guarantee, I don't think it is fair to continue to return to the shop time after time to report yet another area that was missed. It is their mistake of not catching it, but it is also your fault for not catching it. A guarantee can eliminate your worries or missing mistakes and provide you with a sense of relief.

Man, I wish I took this advice when I was younger.

Thanks for you replies, people : )

Unfortunately, the work they do, does not come with a warranty. They've been voted the best shop here, and I guess they feel they don't need warranty's.

I'm going to take my Dad down there with me, to make sure that I don't get any run-around, and that I don't get shrugged off.

This is such a pain, but the sooner it's fixed, the sooner I'll leave them alone (I'm not going to tell them that, though, cause they'll just do another rush job...)

Again - I appreciate the help ^_^

>how much did you pay
>where did you go
>is it a large business
>is it a small business

Well since you just got the car painted I would raise hell! Most people are under the impression that when you get your car painted everything is fine. Like I keep saying my Dad has been in the business for 30 years. He went from a helper>body man>mechanic>painter>even painted Ferraris at one time and has seen alot of this crooked business. When I was younger he let me work in the shop as a helper to make some extra cash. Do you know how many times the painter might of messed up and had to repaint a part. He just gives it to the helper and says hey sand this down. Listen You are the customer and you have rights TO GET WHAT YOU PAYED FOR! Keep going back to the same shop untill its right. I'm telling you your not the only person that has to do this. I have seen alot of customers in those shops that have to keep coming back untill the job is done right.

>body shops are full of its rare to find a good one. What is so bad about them? A few things I have seen...

>drinking on the job (thats a given in most shops)
>smokeing a dubie in the back (fine by me just dont touch my car)
>doing cheap job cause its quicker (WTF man)
>painted over a large piece of masking tape(now that was stupid)
>manager goes to jail for a crack addiction (something wrong with that dude)
>fired body man gets drunk and calls the shop and me and my friend answer the phone (lol we put him on speaker and he was all yelling out veitnam baby! I see you through the scope of my get, im across the street. That was about the funniest ****)
>is your car done yet (no but its been 6 months. No joke)
>Door is just a whole different shade (like no one would notice)
>getting drunk and talking to customers (what were ya thinking)
>getting a 20 dollar tip from a customer (they like my detail work)
>not cleaning off the rubbing compound (all to common)
>putting beer in the coke machine (sounds like a good idea)

Throght all that I had alot of fun thought. Well I hope we can persuade you to keep going back untill they do it right.

>has anyone else worked in a shop or is working in one?

in opinion if you payed alot for it, it should be flawless. if you payed very little it probably won't be that great. if i were you i would be pissed. go back to the shop and ask the guy for a refund or a better job.

I've decided that the problems will be fixed when I take the car in to have the back of it painted (you have half the car done at one place, you kinda want it finished there, too) although I think I'll make a list of what I would like to see when the car is returned to me.

The #1 thing on the list will be "Do not rush" my Dad has no problems with me driving one of his trucks for a while. As long as they dont take 6 months, I'm fine with them having the car longer if it'll help them have the time to do the job RIGHT.

I've seen some absolutely fabulous work come out of this shop, seriously; it's a small business - not like.....Maaco, which is a large chain of places - I just kind of feel, in this case, I was shorted a little for quality because they felt I 'needed' the car back.

I know that nothing is perfect, and maybe I'm a bit picky.... ._. ah, h$ll....I just really love my car. I still have one of the best Camaro's in town ^_~ Thank you all for your help! Watch the wavey man ->
