I don't see why so many people judge speed of a car by the speedo. A lot of ricers ask "Oh yeah? Whats your speedometer go up to? Mine goes up to 125 and its a 4 cyl. Why does yours only go up to 145?"

 

Sure thats not KPH, ucase i think it is!

 

Yeah, I'd like to see what rpm I would be pushing if I could get my car up to 145.

MetalliCamaroRS: I know EXACTLY what you mean... these kids at skool are like "Oh yeah, well my carolla speedometer goes to 135" or some crap like that, then I show them a Grand National and they're like "Pshh, it's speedometer only goes to 85mph" LOL

 

I've seen that speedo before. Well not in person, it was in a magazine that featured a thirdgen road racing car. Had a Rodeck block alll done up, blah blah blah, was radared at 220 on a California road course. Wish I still had that mag.

 

Man, and I thought that 200 MPH autometer i'm after for my car was going a little far...

my 86 t/a has the 140 mph speedo and i can top it out but it has nothing left all it wants to do is kick down to 3rd gear and try to blow up

 

I think my car may hit 240MPH if I drove it off a very high cliff. We'll have to try to find out though.

 

I want to get a 200mph speedo because my goal is to get my car to do 160. I can bury my 85mph speedo no problem, and i have a 140 cluster from a GTA which I hope to be able to bury some day. Hehe it also has the 8000 rpm tach so I can see my motor doing like 7000 rpm when i go that fast...Oh wait, 400s dont rev to 7000... dammit! The 377 buildup is starting to sound like fun to me......


BTW, why does that speedo have 0 miles on it? Never been used?

Well, maybe HIS 400 wont rev to 7 grand It takes a pretty dern hefty crank to be able to rev to 7k RPM SAFELY. I plan on bringin' mine up to 6.5k, maybe I'll stick with 6k though. Ahh, I dunno, its not even built yet

 

My redline on my engine is 7 grand. The most I'll ever take it though is 6800.

What's the point? The car's NEVER gonna hit 240 unless you push it off a cliff...

Anything over 150 on a speedo is worthless unless you're gonna be running the Silver State Classic...

 

If your going 240 in a third gen, my bet would be that you couldn't even look at the speedo. I'd be scared so ****less i'd never take my eyes of the road.

 

I plan on participating in those high speed events when I get my Trans Am finished.

Going to try and finish up my motor swap and try the Standing Mile Speed run in NC on May 25-26.

 

I know what you mean. When ever I race my buddy he asks how fast I was going. I always have to say "I don't know, faster than you were going." LOL. The fastest I've gone was about 130mph.

 

My dream engine is an all aluminum Twin Turbo 327 that redlines at like 7 grand......:hail:
