Hey guys i'm interested in the DIY white face gaugest, I have read both tech articles and looked thru previous threads, but i have one hesitation. If calibration were to get thrown off, how hard would it be to recalibrate teh gauges? and how would one go about doing so. I'm really scared of breaking my gauges or losing the calibration on them, and also does anyone have mikekey's gauges sized down to the right size? or the measurements that they shoudl be at to properly size them? this woudl be of great help, thanks

 

There is a Recent post around here some where about McGewen (i think thats the name) The hole on them is a BIG hole big enough to slide the need through it so you dont have to take off. I dont know whut type of car you have but for me in my 89 RS the oil Gauge is right on the tach, so the Tach over lay had a HUUUGE hole where the oil guage was. That way you could slip the oil gauge one on over the needle, line it up and then press down to fix it to the gauge then slip the tach one over and then line it up and then press down to fix it to the gauge. Like I said i aint sure but I am 99.9% sure this is how it is done, no one ever really answered my question about it. Look for the last post it is around here some where. Even if this isnt the way those gauge over lays work....I am gonna try it any how. I took off all the needle ( i was even careful to write down where they were ) and I broke my speedo needle, and every other needle was off. I had to hook up to WINADL and reset everything one night cuz it was soooo bad. Hope this big mess of goobledygook helps ya

how do you use winadl to reset the gauges? also where can ya get this program? i did a search and came up with one answer that was really useless

 

Its not too hard to do some of them yourself. For the tach, put the key in and turn it but do not start the car. Place the needle at 0. Put speedo at 0 too. Go to the gas station and fill up on gas. Place needle at full. Volts- start your car and put it about where it usually lies when on. I guessed and when my alternator died, it went down to about 9 volts so I knew something was up. Oil- I just put at where it usually lies at idle and temp I put at the bottom after not driving the car all day. They all work fine now. Good luck

 

Urgh, I got as far as removing my tach needle and all the "little" needles, but the speedo fought me tooth and nail. I finally just gave up for fear of forknorking up my guages.

Does anyone have any nifty ways to clean hardened gunk off of the clear plastic guage cover?? Mean Green, Bleach, Dishwashing Detergent, and Prep All didn't wurk.

 

I dont know whut junk your talkin about mine was pretty clean besides dust. Your not trying to clean off the texture on the glass are you? I know there is a slight texture between all the gauge faces.

Very easy to install

 

Mine were very easy to install. As for the clear cover all i did was order a new one from www.thirdgenresource.com " 86-92 Firebird Lens w/Tach - NEW 82-92 Camaro/Firebird New Lens Cover $41.00". The speedo needle came off when i installed the overlay but it went back on very easy.

Naw, I got a 91, with the big clear box over the guages. Whoever had the car before me got some Armorall or something on the plastic, and a buncha shiznit stuck to it, nothing I'm doing is getting it off.
