My Car... :(

Unfortunately insurance rates have hiked up forcing me to get rid of my car soon. Thanks to everyone here where ive learned so much about camaros and firebirds. I will try to stick around and look at all of your rides

Maybe someday i can get another one... but for now my classified is up here... my thirdgen classified ad

Im asking for offers which would seem very reasonable for the amount i've put into it, it has been my passion.

That sucks, have you checked into all the ways to lower your insurance. Not sure of your age, so all may not pertain to you.

1) Good grades
2) good driver programs
3) put it under your parents as main driver you as 2nd
4) occasional driver

Just some ideas.

I heard if your car is under your own name, and your under your own insurance, and you get in a accident and it's your fault, then can only go after you (Ya know to sue).

But if your under your parents and that happens, they can sue your parents, which they could get alot more $$.

Just what I was told though....

I think it's very reasonable... d@mn I like those wheels. I've only seen those snowflake wheels in gold until now (which I hated) I like the silver with the black, it adds a nice touch. I wish I had $2800 right now. I'd take it off your hands.

Blinking car, eh?

Maybe that adds about $400

I am now taking offers instead of listing a price, thanks for the ideas on insurance too but my company really sucks.

Try a different insurance company, there are plenty out there, try that progressive thing.. it finds the absolute least price possible for you to pay.. it would be a shame to get rid of a nice car like that

oh yeah, I would just get liability on your car. seriously, how often are you gonna need towing? If you think about it, by the time you pay for all those little extras over the next couple of years you could almost buy another car! Just liability makes you really careful about how you drive as well. here I am, 22 years old and I've never been in an accident that was my fault in my own cars (there was one at work in a 40 foot bus, but we won't discuss that )

Since my car is at college, maybe 50 miles a week on it at the most, I have it as an occasional driver, not the most legal though , but it works, I only pay about $60 a month.

I'd ask how much it will cost to insure something else, because I'll bet you won't be saving much money even if you change cars. My ins company asked me the year and make of the car... that's it. All they know is that I drive an 85 chevy, an 86 chevy and an 88 pontiac. With basic coverage, the rates tend not to vary much from model to model, so you might get a rude awakening when you insure your corolla and wind up paying the same amount.

BEFORE you jump off the deep end you may want to check with your agent and get quotes on other cars as well, My son is ready to start driving soon and I found that it really doesn't matter what car you have, the insurance is going to be about the same amount for anything. just a thought to check into.

If i dont bring my car to school next year then i would take it off insurance during then but at the moment i am getting swamped with insurance payments to my father and im not getitng many hours where i work.

Jim85Iroc: If they have your vin, they know what kind of car you have. The insurance company prints the vin right on your id card. At least that's how they do it in FL and NJ.

Everyone wants to know what kind of car, and if you have a Mustang or Camaro/Firebird, they're going to charge slightly higher and then add a V8 on top of it. But I would get some quotes for say like a non sports car and see how much they charge, like said, it may not be too much more.

I have insurance thru Progressive (about the only one's who would take me at the time ).. I can tell you that my rates have never changed (no full coverage), except usually every year they lower a little, from my 87 Formula to my 86 CRX to my 76 Suburban to my present driver, my beater 84 Camaro.

I have a super crappy driving record (and still maintain it ) over the past 10 years I've been driving and I pay $520 a year ($480 if I pay the whole year in full).

Let your fingers do the walking and call around.. there are better deals out there.

btw.. that's a very clean looking bird you have

Yup, but my Cherokee was the exact same rate as my IROC, so I'm sticking to my original story.

Yeah, but last I checked a sport ute was following the same insurance trend as sporty cars. $$$$$$$ By the way, I love your GTA. I had one that looked just like it. Actually, I'm sure your's is a lot nicer.

This is what I do, sign the Title over to mom, she tells her insurance company that they have a new project car. She dosent mention a word about me, because anyone who lives with you has to be listed as a driver (my driving record sux anyways), and anyone that drives the car, is covered as a driver. So for all they know, the car dosent get used that much, and if something was to happen I would be covered. Make sense. Clear as Mud.

Anyways to make a long story short, I pay my mother for insurance, which for adding my car to her policy, comes up to be $12 a month for liability. Otherwise if I had my own policy, I'd probably be paying around $100 to $150 a month for liability.

For anyone who cares.

But for those of you who do not wish to defraud the insurance company may want to know that what stangklr proposed is illegal. If he were to ever get into an accident, his mother's policy would be cancelled and odds are that the insurance company would seek to get their payout back from the original policy holder (ie Mom). I am not preaching from a high horse, I just work in a field where I see these types of things happen.

Its not exactly illegal when the car is actually hers. Plus the car hardly ever gets driven anyways. But I was just telling people what I do, not recommending people to do what I do.

Disclaimer- no one do this.

My friend has a 100 $ gas powered go-ped that he is the "primary driver" of. He only "accasionly" drives his 400 HP big block el camino......he pays like $15 a month .

I think the car is under his dads name or something.

If you saw my car on eBay than that is news to me!

If i was offered the right amount at the moment then i would of course take it but if not then getting rid of the car would not be feasible considering the amount i've put in.

I will say i pay around $60 a week which is not possible for me to pay since i work part time. but if i do get a summer full time job then i keep the car.

NEW pictures are up. new firebird pics

$60 a week huh? Heh, I pay almost double that, which is why Im also considering sellin the vert... I mean, I love the car to death, but over $700 a month for a 10 yr old car is rediculous.

Well, its 290 for the car payment, 425 for the insurance. How sad is that? The car payment isnt bad... its when I gotta pay more for the insurance than I do the car tha pisses me off.

basically we've established that insurance is over charging everyone. and then when you get your car fixed they dont make sure its always fixed with the Factory OEM parts, they just look for a cheap way out.

$60 a week? $425 a month? I didn't pay that much when I was 17, let alone now! I pay roughly the same amount for my Camaro as I do for my Escort, and I have full coverage on both cars, with me listed as primary on the Camaro and my wife listed as primary on the Escort. Neither of us has any accidents or tickets on the record (anymore). I pay about $117 a month for both, through State Farm. And yes, State Farm does know that it is an 84 Camaro with a V8, not just an "84 Chevy". I thought it was a typo when they first quoted me the price, but it was correct. Shop around and see what you can find.

Are we talking about your 88 T/A? If so why the hell do you have a car payment on an 88? I have managed to keep 2 3rd gens for over a year now. I have 10 points on my lincense and just had to go put my deposit on my insurance and that cost me $825 jsut for Liability. Now I have to put away $155 a month for the remaing amount of the $2,650 a year. I have also managed to put $4,500 into one of my cars so far this year. I still have another $4,000 till i am totaly done before winter. Then another $4,000 for my winter mods. All in a 86 that would be close to $17,000 total with the purchase price of the car. Am I insane for a 20 year old. OH HELLL YEA! I plan on buying a 70's stingray or a 1st gen camaro and redoing one of them. I will soon be selling my 88 which is getting a new paint job a rebuilt 350 Z28 motor that came out of my 86 (close to 330 RWHP) and a new interior. I could sell the car as is for around $1,200 but I could get a lil more maybe close to $4,000 with the above. Being in an accident sucks. I have never been in one but that screws your insurance

No, were talkin about my 92 Vert. I bought it with a loan I recieved from the bank, hence me having to keep full coverage on it untill the loan is paid off.

Man... Im only 17 i was 16 when i got my 87 Trans Am... ITs a V8 with T Tops....

My mom is the main driver and then I am the main driver for a 87 chevy 1/2 ton 4spd, V6.... i pay 85 bucks a month.... But...

I was goin to be the main driver for my car and they said dont even worry about it.... way too high....

Go buy some clunker from the junk yard for 100 bucks all you need is a title... then have your unlce park it out at his farm (just an example) and claim that as your main driver and your Firebird as a garage car (I think you still can put some 10 thousand miles a year on them..)

there are ways rather then selling it... come on man its your car!

Did your insurance have to pay? If so thats why your rates are so high. My dad got in a accident 4 3/4 years ago and they still charge like 40 % more because of it . Its 5 years before you get your good driver discount back.

The only thing is that it is not listed as a V8 but a V6 2.8!

So damn if I had to pay as much as you do I could not dream of a 3rd gen!

One thing is....NEVER tell your insurance company about your accidents if you can pay for them out of your pocket....i ****ed up my first camaro and never told the insurance company...i was lucky and just ****ed up landscaping...cost my 645 out of pocket....alot less then it would have cost me in the long run. So now i own another one....umm get 'good' grades, it is under my father name, and is a "restoration project". yeah IROC convertibles.

Someone is getting told their shoes are untied and when they bend over the insurance company is raping you. $425 a month, that is absurd. I was paying $180 a month for full coverage for a month (that was it couldn't afford it) on my IROC. This was when I was 19.

1. Yeah, my insurance paid for the accident... I coulndt afford it.
2. Another beater car isnt really an option... I already have the GTA out front, and the parents dont like it as it is.
3. In NJ, 3 years and your insurance is cleared.
4. JERSEY SUCKS ***!

Come October when that accident is off my record, Ill qualify for NJM insurance, which will DRASTICALLY lower my rates.

Just alittle FYI on the insurance thing... I just recently provided proof to my company that I have a viper alarm on my car (They recognise that to be the best brand) and they gave me a 22% break on my rates. They are also going to prorate that 22% for every month since I had the alarm on it
