Opinion on spoiler
Opinion on spoiler
I have a black 89 Firebird Formula and I've been looking in to getting a new spoiler. I really like the one that is stock, which is the one like the GTA spoiler, but it is original and the rubber is rotting, so I wanna replace it. Do you think I should get a replacement fiberglass spoiler like i have, or another spoiler? I was thinking about a 4th gen trans am spoiler, but i wasn't really sure. What are your opinions? Any pics would be appreciated too! Thanks a lot!

After seeing Zeph's car without one I kind of like the firebird without. The wrap arounds are nice looking but I hear you would run into problems with one from a 4th gen though. You might want to go with the wrap around from GTA from the link above.

I was in the exact same situation and decided on the 4th gen spoiler. I was really afraid that I'd find it tacky and "rice" but once I painted the car I fell in love with it. Now the stock spoilers look funny to me. I was on the fense between the 4th gen, and the fiberglass stock replacement. My brake light housing was broke, and the stock spoiler didn't come with it. The stock spoiler was $25 more, plus I would have had to buy a new brake light housing. That's what made me decide on the 4th gen style.
Thanks for your opinions guys! Jim, that car looks great! Its gonna be a hard decision. The 4th gen spoiler looks really good on your car, but yours is a TA. Mine is a Formula, do you think it would make a difference in appearance, better or worse? Also, did you have to drill new holes or anything like that? Thanks man, and the car looks great!

I also liked the look of Zepher's car without the spoiler. But his Z28 high rise spoiler looks good.

Let's see if I can answer all the questions without forgetting one.
Thanks for the compliments first off.
The spoiler will require you to fill the stock wrap-around mounting holes, grind the clips off the hatch glass frame, then drill the new mounting holes. If you're not good at body work or good at paying somebody else to do it, I'd say stick to the stock one. I was painting the car anyway, so it was no concern to me.
Ice... that car hasn't seen much of any snow/ice since I've owned it, except when parked in my parents driveway. I only took it out when the roads were clean and dry. I got it caught in a light salting once, but she got washed shortly after.

4th gen spoiler is the way to go
I think that if you put a 4th gen fiberglass spoiler on your car it would make it look 10 times better.(the spoiler screams look at me)Check out my boyfriends car on the Appearance and Detailing page and click the post from Bad91gta the one that says check out this TA. That yellow TA is my boyfriends car and he has that 4th gen spoiler. It made his car look so hot. That would be a nice touch to your car.
