I have gone to both of my local auto parts stores, " Autozone & Checkers" neither have Clear coat remover, they don't even know what I mean, I have to give an explanation. I haven't gone to pep boys yet.
What can I use to take the clear coat off my rims!! What is it called? where can I get it? and how much does it cost?
Can I use anything else to take the clear coat off?? please help guys, I want to do this A.S.A.P.

There's a stuff called Aircraft Remover, it's a type of paint stripper. I used it and it worked really well. But dont get the stuff in the aerosol can, use the stuff that you apply with a brush; for some reason it seems to work better. And when they say 'dont get it on your skin', they mean it, the stuff burns like crazy!

Cant find it in the wal marts in Texas, I have looked endlessly. Now is it wrong to use this stuff at a car wash? Has anybody done that? You need some kinda high pressue sparyer to get it off you rims right? Where did you people strip your rims?
>and yes....
>and yes....
YEAH AIRCRAFT PAINT STRIPPER IS THE GO BUT ITS SOMETIMES HARD TO GET. "AS POSTED EARLIER" DON'T GET THE SPRAY IT JUST DOESN'T HAVE ANY *****.
I USED NORMAL PAINT STRIPPER & A KARCHER H/PRESSURE CLEANER, YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE SEVERAL GOES BEFORE YOU GET IT OFF. "WEAR GLOVES & SAFETY GLASSES COZ IT BURNS MORE THAN YOUR WINKY IN A TOASTER".
MAKE SURE YOU TOTALLY DRY RIMS BEFORE SECOND APLICATION OR IT WON'T WORK TO WELL.
GOOD LUCK
JACKO

hmmm aircraft remover, thats exactly what it's called?
So once I brush it on, I need a high pressure hose to wash it off? what about a normal garden hose with a spray handle?
How long should I wait beofre I take it off?

that is what i used to take the gold paint off of my gta rims.it did take a few applications of it and i did wash it off with the garden hose. i found a few different sizes and name brands at the autozone that were really not expensive. just be careful using it. the stuff can eat away the paint brush so just think of how it feels on your skin.OOOOUchhh!!

paint
I painted mine with metallic silver engine paint. There has been no problem with my rims yet.(and if my car ever starts on fire my rims with be the last thing to go since they can withstand 1200+degrees
)j/k but they really did turn out nice.Everything that i needed to do my rims i got from autozone so it was so much less expensive then it would have been to take them in to get done.

After I finally get the clear coat off "some time next week." I will polish them a little with mothers, then the original silver painted parts of the rim will be sanded, primered, and painted gloss black, they will look awesome.
ok, so iv got some unpainted aluminum rims....i think they are alluminum...or is is stainless steel....i dont know,, but its just the metal then clear coat. they have spots that look like dirt everywhere. i still havent had the time to sit there with the dremel buffer and go at it to see if that will take it out. you think just stripping the clear coat off will be a better idea then waxing it with mothers mag polish?
taking off clear coat
just a little fyi...
i was gonna redo my iroc wheels, after much searching found a complete kit at paddockparts.com for aluminum wheel restoration, kit made by por-15, has clearcoat remover, cleaner polishing compound, adapters for your drill cost 139$. part number WPK. also they have several kinds of paint made for wheels, various colors and manufacturers, sounded better then sending them out, sufering while car was down, and paying upwards of 1000$ to have them redone professionally.saved myself big money, forgot about the iroc and bought a92 heritaeZ!
