Engine Color Combos
Engine Color Combos
I'm swapping from TBI to TPI and was going to paint the valve covers silver, but got to thinking about it and was wondering how other colors would look on a TPI setup. What have you done as far as color scheme under the hood, and are you happy with it? I was thinking maybe an orange block, heads, waterpump and valve covers for a nostalgic Chevy look, but don't think it would look right in a 3rd gen. Any thoughts?

I've seen lot of orange engines in thirdgens and like you said it just don't look right, I like the modern looking black block and heads (black will make the engine run cooler too). Sometimes the valvecovers look good painted to match the body color but you have a dark colored car so that wouldn't look right, I would go with either stock black covers or put those cool GM Performance Parts Aluminum Valve Covers on it but they would take an adaptor to work on center bolt heads.

This isn't exactly tech, but my new block is black, aluminum heads, and red valve covers. I think it looks damn good, but that could be my partial observation....it is my baby afterall.

Its not an 8, but mine has the black block and I polished and painted the accesories. Red wire looms, Candy apple red valve covers and accesories, Red vacuum lines, and red anodized coolflex rad. hoses.
Since this pic I have a red top optima and the plenum has been polished more and the X is now candy apple red and is much more dramatic.

Yeah, I like the way my 69 looks with the black and aluminum, so I guess I'll go for the stock TPI look.
I really don't want to pop for new valve covers, so I guess I'll hit them with some silver/grey and call it a day. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more if anyone has a few shots to post. Thanks

i like the satin aluminum look to match the color of the car.... i painted my block, and valcovers red w satin silver oil pan, brackets, heads, timing cover, fuel pump block off plate, just where somthing bolts up to the red block gets painted satin.. i think crome or polished is great but too much matinance.. i'll have pics when she goes back in..

Cute, thats my post with my engine pic. Be neat if they could be seen.
Thought for you. Think Star Trek 5. Transparent Aluminum!!! Imagine a block, heads, valve covers made of that. Talk about easy diagnosis. Red components would so show up.
I'm assuming everyone has seen it. The movie was on a few weeks back. Watched it while we were scanning pics. The movie: A probe showed up that only spoke whale. Its transmissions electrically messed up the earth atmosphere and power. The crew went back in the past to save earth in search of humpback whales. Scotty gave the owner of a plexiglass plant the formula for transparent aluminum. It was in trade for really thick plexi to carry the whales back to the future.
