Are wheel adapters safe????

Are wheel adapters safe????

I wanted to buy some wheel adapters to put a set of 4th gen wheels on my car.

Some guy at a wheel place told me that he can get them for me, but that they are not very reliable.

Another told me that he stopped selling them seven years ago, cause he got sued by a guy who lost a wheel on the high way cause of the adapter.

If you are using wheel adapters, please tell me what is your experience with them, and for how long have you used'em.

I'm running wheel adapters on my TA to fit Mercedes rims on her, haven't had any problems yet with 450HP. Been up to around 110 mph as well - so far so good. Lot's of guys run spacers to fit fourth gen rims on their rides with no problems. Make sure to run proper torque specs and you'll be good to go.

You just have to watch which spacers you get. You can get some from a couple of places. www.skulte.com www.vettebrakes.com and www.wheeladapters.com.

Just got to make sure they are tight and using the proper bolts. I have seen pics of peoples wheels falling of on the board before but I dont think any of them were from the places above. They are the more reliable ones.

i learned the hard way, make sure they are put on right, using the proper washers for the shank style lugnuts holding the spacers onto the wheel hub.

the shop i took it to didn't do that

I have wheel spaces on my car they are changed to a 5x100mm pattern to accomadate my aftermarket rims on my car.

They have worked fine, MAKE SURE YOU TIGHTEN the bolts to the good. Just to be on the safe side i check the bolt about 1,000 miles just to be on the safe side.

Also buy from a reputable company and you'll be set.

wheel adapters

i bought mine from classic wheel works in glendora ca..
their billet aluminum and are cut like a an so regular lugnuts fit them perfectly... if their tourqed right you shouldn't have any worries...

I just got mine from www.skulte.com, he gives you a set of lugs with the adaptors. The are the acorn style. You dont have to use any washers (like mag wheel lugs). I've only had my adaptors a few months, so far so good. I can say I'm a much safer driver knowing i have them on. Just get them on tight and keep them tight. Also most tire companys prob wont put you wheels on your car if they have adaptors. You prob will have to take the wheels off, bring them in to chage the tire, and then you will have to put it on at home.

Have a set of billet aluminum ones. They converted my offset so I could run FWD rims. I got mine from Salesco in CA. www.salesco.com. I'm not sure who made them specifically. I have been running them...dang, almost 2 years now. No problems. And I even changed my lug pattern from 4 to 5 to boot. Just make sure they are billet aluminum. Good strong stuff.

Side note. I went to 4 lug because I fell in love with a set of dicontinued rims. 4 lug was all that was left anywhere. They made the spacer and adapter all into one unit. 2 plates that bolted together with countersunk bolts. The inner plate has 5 holes that match up to my old lugs, and 6 holes for the top plate to mount to. The top plate had the matching holes and 4 lugs coming off of it. I had them step up the lug size so as to not worry about lbs per lug.

I believe mine are more complicated than the spacers for a 3rd gen to 4th gen rim conversion. Either way they have held up great despite their complicated nature.
