I Sold My Car, Check out the New One!!!
Here's my new daily driver, 1990 Mustang Coupe 5spd 4cyl. Needed something good for gas. Just took these pics as soon as I got it home.

OK, so I didn't sell the Camaro, but at least it won't have to be driven every day now.

Glad to see you go another car so you can get your camaro off the road for some work... Might want to fix your 3rd breaklight. And maybe... just maybe. If I can get my dad to buy a new air tank. Maybe some new paint. Unless Nasty can hook you up. I wouldnt want to use my car as a guinea pig. lol
Looking forward to getting a chance to work on my car next week... Still no garage but I can atleast jack the pig up... Kinda.
Trying to recruit people for the 27th too...

I paid $1700 for it, new tires, 61k miles on it. Interior is in great shape. I'll get some more pics later. I happen to like this style of Mustang the best as far as the Fox Body ones.
I figured once out of college, I'll drop a 302 in it. Should have lots of fun with that and the IROC.
Oh, the Vette isn't mine, it's my future father in laws.

Yeah, Mark, you scared me too.
I think you payed a little too much for it, but I'm really a cheapo; it's probably in much better condition than whatever I would buy... Yeah, just look at my POS Trans Am, lol. But if you wanted a Stang anyway, way to go! The 302 plan sounds good to me. Make it a drag-only car or something later...
Um, Bill, what kinda gas mileage do you get? A certain V6 Firebird owner I know said she got the same mileage I do on account of the fact the smaller mill has to work twice as hard... it could be just that 2.8s are good for nothing, eh?

I read on another board from a guy had a 91 RS for sale for $165. Thats not a typo... One hundred sixty five dollars. He said it ran though needs a fuel pump. I should find out if he still has it.
Glad to see you can save the Camaro a bit Mark.
but does that model mustang come with the optional
extra chicken head & tail?, like I recently saw in a post
What r you doing spending your time out buying cars you
should be giving your brother inlaws? car a cut & polish.

Good stuff Mark. I too just bought another car so that my IROC will no longer be my daily. I bought a 1985 Honda Accord with 4cyl/5 speed and 160,000 miles. I paid $700 for it and it runs like a champ.
My father reminds me every single day that the IROC is mad at me for buying an import, but I think I'll just have to let it be mad considering I have gotten 400 miles out of the first tank and 425 out of the 2nd

I've heard this car gets about 28mpg. Should be a big improvement over the 18mpg I get now.
I had thought about selling the IROC and putting the money into another car. But I don't think I could ever sell the car. I would never get out of it what I put into it for one thing.

you should have spent that money on a second gen RX7 like mine
they prolly will last just as long if not longer
they are MUCH FASTER
and get just about as good of gas
I am getting 22-25 city and 30-35 highway anymore and my car runs best on the cheap stuff also

I know you bought it for good gas mileage ... but if you ever want any info on making the car faster, just send me a PM. The engine is a 2.3ltr EFI ... same motor that comes in the SVO but not built for boost. You could have the heads o-ring'd and slap on the stock SVO turbo setup along with ECU for under a grand if you did it yourself. Pushing around 10 psi would net you somewhere around 210 hp / 230 ft/lbs. I can show you where to buy the parts if you want. I'll have my SVO up to 275 rwhp pretty soon here..
Nice stang!! Wish mine looked that good ...

I know which car to spend the money on.
Thing is, I owe a lot of money for this Stang. I'm hoping the mpg savings will help. But I'm hopin I can set aside enough money for a cam/intake swap this summer. If not, there's always next summer.
Thanks for the tip to make the Stang fast, but for now, it must be reliable and be available everyday to drive.

I agree with CrazyHawaiian. I just got my Merkur a week ago, which has the same 2.3 Turbo as his SVO, just no intercooler. I also paid $1700 for it and it's really a blast to drive, but I still have to get the bird out once in awile to get that V8 rumble. Hey Crazy, you said you knew where to get parts. Know of any mass air meters and intercoolers off of SVO's for sale? That should give me a nice boost in power with what I already have, plus I could run a lot more boost.
Sure thing! There are two websites I frequent for 2.3T performance related information:
www.turboford.org
www.mustangsvo.org
The messageboards on both those sites are huge and with some searching I'm sure you'll find an answer to any question you might have. The thing about the 2.3 EFI thats so cool is that alot of parts are interchangable and easy to find. There are lots of free/junkyard mods you can do for relatively cheap HP. Parts from Mustang SVO's, Merkur XR4Ti's, Ford Rangers, and Turbo Coupes (TBirds) will all interchange ... its just finding the right combo thats a challenge. It has been recorded that a 86 SVO with a K&N filter and free mods (Disconnect knock sensor; Up boost to 17.5 psi) ran a 13.75 on slicks. Not bad for about $50 in mods!! Here's the main things that need to be modded for a good performance increase:
Injectors (look for 35# brown tops)
ECU (look for a 'PE' from a SVO or a 'LA3' from a TBird)
Cam (Stock Ford Ranger Roller cam is cheap and good)
Intercooler (Volvo front mount IC)
Downpipe/Exhaust (3" is the only way to go!)
But to answer your questions:
**short version
Upgrade to a Volvo front mount IC and a large SVO VAM
**long version
As far as intercoolers, you have quite a few choices. You could go with a Tbird or Stock SVO intercooler but I would not recommend it. The design of the intercooler (or more specifically the placement of the intercooler) is horrible. It sits right above the turbo ... right above the hottest thing in the engine bay (not very efficient at cooling!). You could pick one of them up for under $50 ... but honestly I recommend you jump straight to a Volvo intercooler. The Volvo IC is Volvo Part number-1317319 and can be found in junkyards for under $100. I got mine for $75. If you can get it with the hoses then great but if not, its no big deal .. any exhaust shop can make the pipes for you (for under $50!) and stronger pipes can handle more boost than the stock rubber ones.
As far as the Mass Air ... it seems to be a huge ongoing discussion right now with the 2.3 community. Stock the motors come with a VAM (Vain Air Meter). Its not the worst thing in the world but it maxes the potential of the engine to around 300hp. The next step up is the MAS (Mass Airflow Sensor) conversion but I've read mixed reviews. Some people report a change in performance with a change in the weather (like if it rains then it wont even start or something messed up like that), but others are happy. The MAS conversions are very very expensive (over $400!!) so its not worth it unless you're aiming for above 300 hp. You can buy a SVO VAM (larger of two models avaliable) for around $30 and that should be good. I would recommend you skip the MAS conversion for now and just get a large VAM.
To buy parts I would check either Ebay or the Classifides @ TurboFord.org
Here's someone selling some stuff you might want:

Good Luck!!

I'm lovin it Mark! $1700 is a killer deal for a good, low-mileage 4 banger. Those 14" wheels have GOT to go though...people practically give 10-holes away around here. Mine averages about 30 mpg between the city/highway, but that's WOT in every gear until I get to 5th
My dad's '89 averaged 35 mpg with his driving habits.
When you go to drop a 5.0 in that thing, let me know and I may be able to help you out with the swap.

I've got 2 '87 Turbocoupes and 1 '88 TC.
I just started parting out my old grey '87 TC
I wasn't gonna sell to much off of it since I might need parts for the other 2, but if you need something ask.
As far as reliability, My 87 that I'm parting has 192,000 on it and was a very reliable car. Body was rusted too bad to keep going, and I got a nice deal on my new Black 87 TC, only 104,000 on it.

I was thinkin the same thing. Though I owe a lot of money on the car right now. I liked the wheels I had on my last 4 banger Stang. American Racing, kind of like the five spoke kind but had and angle towards them, know what I mean? LIke $50 a piece. Would these tires fit 14x7 wheels, the tires are brand new.
Nice stang Mark, I got a killer deal on my last stang, I paid $1100 for a 79' that has been gutted and COMPLETELY rebuilt all it needed was paint
. The 302 was built to high hell. Comp cam, roller rockers, punched .40 over, edelbrock performer rpm intake and 650 carb, it was really nice they guy ran outta money in the mddle of the project and was forced to sell due to a divorce. Now I have my z and my daily driver is a $hitty ford pickup 5spd but im gettin ready to drop a 350 in the z

I used to get 25-30 with the 5 speed and 14" wheel combo. Im running 16" now and the motor has more miles......Im getting around 22 now.

A while back i got myself an 85 Z28 to relief my 84 Trans Am of it's daily driver status. Three months later i blew the engine, it now has a slightly modified 305. Now im thinking of fixing up my older brother's old Olds Cutlass Calais for my daily driver
Its just needs a new tire and registration sticker.
