They look cool, and I was wondering if anyone has ever tried one before I spend the $500 to buy one.

They look sweet, but, on a Sunny day like we have down here in FL I think it would be rediculously hard to read. I say this having tinted windows that are never up due to the lack or AC in my car (They said "For $1000 we'll fix your AC" and I said "Bitch! I'll Roll down my windows!"). But I've always liked the idea of the Digital Dash. However, I think that the best looking DD is the one that came stock on the GTA's. Heard that those were also hard to read though, so....

Yeah, $500 is a bit steep. Summit Racing has them for $400. Still steep, but better.
Their website says something along the lines that they are really bright, so you can read them in direct sunlight. I was just hoping someone had tried them so I could see how they looked.

I have them.
And being from Florida, I can say that they're quite readable in direct sunlight. You might not realize just how much shade the dash pad overhang creates, but even with the sun low in the sky and light hitting them directly, you can still read them.
I've said before that I wouldn't pay that much for them either, but then again I didn't. Summit has raised the price to just under $500, plus you really should get the seperate 8000ppm universal speed sender and that's another $60 on top of that. The dash will refresh the speed reading MUCH faster with the 8000ppm sender than the stock 4000 or 2000ppm sender will.
It'll work with a V6 tach.

Looks nice, but why doesn't anybody make gagues for the bird!!! And besides I need a needle for the tach. To use to having one, I would feel naked with just numbers!!

Hey Jza, is that 8000ppm for cable or electronic driven speedo? I have a 91, and I beleive that the speedo is run by the ecm, and not directly by the vss. Am I correct? wouldn't the 8000ppm mess up the ECM if I am?
Also, you have any pics of it installed in a camaro? I'd love to see how it looks! Thanks.

That's a cable driven sender.
You should be able to use the existing speed signal wire for your old speedo on the new speedo. So you wouldn't need the seperate sender. That's just my advice for the guys with cable driven models. I didn't know what year you had.

Hey Jza, I was looking at the dakota digital gauges that dbarker02 posted a link to, and I noticed that they specify turn signal, high beams, and the other status lights. Do the Nordskog gauges have those too? I can't find a yes or no on thier website.

dakotas
those gauges also come in green & red... the other ones that were originally posted here do have turn signals, but they are just little green circles...the dakotas look stock as well.... they're made off of the stock pannel & the others arent... just my .02
the other gauges are good quality & if you prefer them then try em out.. i like mine & hopefully others do to...

My turn signals are green arrows. Even the Dakota gauges will be green circles if you don't put the console plate on it.
This is mine (Nord-Skog) so you can see what it looks like. Even with the flash going you can still see the numbers, and check out the little green arrows.
The voltage gauge is not lit because it blinks any time it's under 12 volts and in that particular shot it happened to blink off. nice, but there are alot more things that come first before fronting $500 on gauges. would i do it yea but maybe a few years down the road when i go----damm what else can i do to my car????

PS - If anybody's got any pics of the Autometer set up that would be a plus!
autometer
no they do not make a cluster for our cars which is total
... but many people have fabricated the ultralite autometer gauges into our cars... try searching for autometer & you should find it...

There used to be a post somewhere that gave you the schematics for making your own digital gauges. It would be time consuming and may end up being more expensive than $400 or $500. Since we are on the topic of digital gauge clusters, here is a pic of the gauges in my '88 300zx. They can be problematic at times but they look cool and they are functional.

I've got an old-school set of digital gauges that look just like the Nordskog & cyberdene units. These are OLD though. Sales receipt is from 1986. I haven't been able to install them yet (seeing as how the damned car hasn't ran for 3 months), but I'm anxious to start playing with them. Since these are so old, and have a very cheesy in-line VSS, I'm not expecting much. Hopefully they'll work well enough for me to model a HUD design so I can have my analog tach and still have a digital speedo. Havin' my cake and eatin' it too.
