The only good thing mud flaps are for is if you travel on gravel roads alot other than that take them off.

my friends have them, (out of 4 I'm the only one that doesn't) they look ok from the side (cause you can't see them) but otherwise I don't like them, my tires look cool from behind

I took them off my car and soon found stone chips in the paint behind the rear wheels. So, I put the rear ones back on!!!

My doors began to stone-chip shortly after I painted the car, so even though I'm not fond of how they look, I put a small set behind the front wheels to keep my doors from chipping. I got persecuted as a "*******" for it, but if you get some small ones, you barely see them and they'll save your paint.

Are mud flaps the same as splash guards??? I have these on my car. Keeps the water from puddles off the paint.

These are custom made out of ABS plastic, I don't think they look bad at all.

But, to each his own i guess

I think my car actually looks better with them on...(though they are very subtle and not the ones with "CAMARO" written on them in bright bold lettering)

this one guy who goes to my school has an black 87 sport coupe (cheesy paintjob, iroc hood w/missing louvers, someone took gold spray paint and painted all the emblems with it, and on the door handles to hide the 2.8 MultiPort Injection sticker he put some ugly yellow camaro lettering stickers, duct tape on the tears in the seats, has a cassette deck from some plymouth minivan)with some mexican style rims and he actually rigged up some brake lights on his plastic mudflaps(they stick out from the car at about a 30* bend)....looks awful....makes me sick whenever I see it

one time In my old car (white 84 sport coupe) I drove over some freshly paved asphault with all kinds of little rocks on it, I was really really glad I had them then

I had a pair on my car when I got it. I took them off almost immediatly. They said "Heartbeat of America" on them.

Sure mud flaps would protect your paint. But so would a bra on the front, and you know how everyone on here feels about those things.

What's wrong with hood bras? (Forgive me, I'm still fairly new.)

When I get my black 'bird repainted I was considering a hood bra to sidestep the stone chips. It shouldn't be too noticable on a black car.

The hood bra will make makes in your paint. It will also scratch the hell out of it. I wouldnt do it. I put one on mine cause i need a new paint job and it looked like crap with out the bra.

Well what's worse, a few hidden marks and scratches or a few exposed stonechips?

I'm not totally sold on the idea of a hood bra but I'm still thinking about it.

the only thing the "bras" are good for is hiding stuff like broken GFX, missing Grills, flaking paint, seriously don't do it unless you have too.....I wouldn't reccomend leaving it on either, I would have one and just put it on for long road trips and such.....the disadvantage definatly outweigh the benefits on this one....trust me not worth it....

'specially on a bird, I can't imagine it looking good....would mess up the whole look of the car, and what do you do about the pop-up headlights?

... and stone chips? Wouldn't preventing them with the hood bra be even better?

what do you do about the pop-up headlights?
They usually have seperate covers for the headlight lids. All that I have seen do anyway, although granted that isn't many.

I don't think it'd look great on my black car but it'd look better than the current grey primer marks showing through the stone chips. On a white or red car I think a hood bra actually looks kinda nice sometimes.

What's worse: a mostly unblemished paintjob with a few stonechips, or a completely covered, high-school, boy-racer bra?

I put mine on for the first time in three years for a 1,000 mile trip. Took it off the moment I got to my destination. It will probably be another three years before that "em-ef" touches my paint $2,500 paint again.

Well since no one has mentioned it.. While I was at a Car show.. I saw the perfect mud flaps on a Corvette.. "Clear", the guy made them, cheap. easy to replace too. and it works. I thought I took a picture of it.. But I'm sure you get the idea.

You didn't answer my question.

A hood bra doesn't necessarily scream teenage racer-wannabe. The aftermarket spoilers and rims do that quite nicely. I still say a piece of leather probably looks better than bright gray chips in dark black paint.

I'm a little old for the teenage bull anyway my friend.

if your so convinced that it's better to have one on your car than go ahead......but to me, I've always thought of them as something to hide defects/flaws with....make it seem like it's got something to hide, 9 out of 10 3rdgen f-bodies that I see with them on have them on because they either have some dents, cracked GFX, are scrapped up or have major paint problem or a combination of all the above...

I tired one and...

I don't like the bras. I put one that I got for free on my car once for a week. It collected lots of dust, dirt and left a film on my paint. It took some serious compound/buffing/waxing/buffing again to remove all of this after a week of usage. And on top of all of that it did not look better.

As far as the Flap I always thought the way the GFX extended out was some form of flap, but I don't have GFX or flaps on my car. I kinda like the clean look so if I get rock chips I just repair or eventually repaint or touch up. Clear might be interesting tho.

I think Bra's are fine if you drive the car in the snow.. protect the front end from sand and gravel.. But in the summer I see no point in having one on..

Hey I never said I was convinced, I just said I was considering it. Some genius comparing it to something a teenager would do to daddy's car certainly isn't going to convince me against it. Personally I think it looks good on a white car but on a black 'bird, I dunno... If I find a reasonably cheap one I'll give it a shot.
