300th Post Yahooey

OK ALL THIS IS MY 300TH POST...

not as much as the post ***** mark(its ok man no bad things meant) but considering ive been here for a little over 2 months(i think) not that bad..

anyways...

i have a question and something to tell all the camaro guys...

first the question..

this has been asked b4 but nothing really answered me with my searches...

ive lowered my car via heating the springs...now...
i notice i have some minor rubbing..nothing big but it will eventually make my tire/s wear out faster..so what have some of you guys used to "properly" lower you cars.?

i know ground control makes coilovers, and they "say" that you can make it about 6 inches lower..thats all fine and dandy but the price bothers me $1100 canadain..now all you guys with your eibachs...ive never really used them..are they any good...

post your suggestions here...i want about a max of 2 inches from the ground stance...

2nd..i was just told via ?? amanda?? from fx designs (where i got my front skirt) that they will be making a ram air hood for the 82-92 edition of the camaros...(Sorry bird owners) i think that they will be alot cheaper then hawks and the other places...although i DONT know for sure...i know im getting one..just the amount and quality will be the deciding factor!!

(SLADE IF YOU READ THIS...IF I GET IT FROM FX THEN IT WILL BE ABOUT DEC OR SO UNTIL MY HOOD WILL BE FOR SALE)

thanks and sorry for the long lengthy post

six inches lower and your car will have it's head lights where your fog lights are now.
but really i have no idea about lowering your car.

heat the springs? what were you thinking? lol i personally would either leave it be or just take maybe half a turn off the spring. if you do cut the spring, only do a 1/4 turn at a time and keep test fitting them all untill you like it. we are lucky, don't need a spring compressor to get the coils off!

is the ride as good as it was before heavy?? cuz my ride almost seems better...cept for tire noise..(rubbing on the inner wheelwell) and the drop is the only thing holding me back on the eibachs..not enough for me...that may change though...it kinda has now that i "hurt" my front skirt

will these eibach springs be a step down if you have ws6 suspension? i have a stiff stiff ride but the car handles like a dream. i would like to drop the car a few inches, but i don't want to actually take a step down in handling performace

Is there really that much of a performance difference when lowering your ride? I'm not sure if its worth all that. I probably will never lower my car.

In the searching I have done the eibach system would drop my car about 1-2" if I remember right, but what keeps the car from leaning in the turn? I hate body roll. Any thoughts? By the way how much is the eibach system?

as for hurting the performance, i don't think it will hurt the enginges performance. i will improve your handleing because you have a lower center of gravity.

Dropping your cammaro looks cool but there are right ways and wrong ways of doing it
in the old days it was common to lower it buy cutting the springs, and shorting the the spring. but that causes problems. some cars came with "progresive-rate" springs, meaning that the first inch or soof compression occurred at a specific rate. after which the springs require a higher pressurs to compress. buy cutting it you are altering this. and affecting your handling and ride.
lowering the car changes the suspention and steering geometry. in the front end a lowered ride hieght results in what is known as "bumpsteer" the difference between the arc swung by the tie rod end and the arc swung buy the steering knuckle. when the veh hits a bump it causes the wheels to to turn inward slightly.
rear suspention is also affected
aftermarket sells kits to correct this buy repositioning the tie rods in the front and an ajustible panhard rod and torque arm in the back to correct the the misalignment.

got that from "motorbooks how to tune 82-92 camaros"

Is this another reason to laugh at some riceburner who did it the wrong way just cut the springs and put the back on. When you see the tires are leaning inward and bald on the inside. LOL:sillylol:
