Questions about formula wheels

I found an 88 formula in the junk yard with a full set of formula wheels on it, and they are in good shape, the only problem is they are filthy. Are formula wheels clearcoated like the 84-92 15X7 bird wheels? Im pretty sure I can clean these wheels up. If worse comes to worse, I'll strip the wheels, sand them down a bit, and paint them silver.

Also, I noticed 3 of the wheels appear to be fronts, with only one back wheel. Isnt it the rear wheels which have a deeper lip (deeper offset)? I know where I can get another formula wheel, but I dunno if its a front or back, but I'd rather have 4 fronts than 3 fronts and a back.

Yes the wheels are clearcoated. The offset for the fronts is 0 the rears is 16mm. There is another post running around where the guy is using 4 fronts instead of 2 and 2, or 1 and 3 in your case.

Good luck!

I have a set off my '89 Formula 350 that are in good shape. The clearcoat is ok, but they are not pitted or have any curb rash. They have only seen two winters and stored the rest.

They have 255/50/16 BFG ZR tires. The fronts have 40% tread and the rears have 75% tread.

Includes all center caps, lugs and extra lug covers.

Asking $400 for all 4, buyer pays shipping.

The rims are 16", and look alot like the 15". Much better rim. Just make sure that you do not put the back on the front. The front steering linkage will rub a bit. It happen before I bought them. Big defference in the way the car handles. The $400 is a good deal. I paid $100 for mine and that was with tires!! And Hawks sells them for about $300-360 (can't remember) w/out tires. It cost me 500 just for shoes!! My speedo in my 88 was about 1-2 mph fast when I changed. Best mod for the car so far!!

Well, I pulled the wheels today, I believe I have 4 fronts but I am not sure. Is it the front or rear ones which have the deeper looking offset? I have 4 with the less deep offset.

Can you belive I had to tell the dude at discount tires that. They put on new tires and the rear tires that they put on the front started rubbing. The dude didnt know what do do so he suggested spacers. But of course he didnt do that kinda work. (he fuc.ked up and didnt know what to do so he was just trying to get me out the door) I had to Jack up my own car and take the wheel off to show the dumb a$$. Then he helped. What a Idiot. Hey this story isnt over yet! Then I take go the the Beer store and the tire goes flat. Well the 4 foot tall hindo that owned the car before had some kinda road rage against curbs. That or she just couldnt see them. WTF!!!! I go back to the **** shop and said hey man! You were soppossed to put bead sealer on this. We dunk the tire and its leaking air. Pop the tire off and look nope no bead sealer. We get the bead sealer, leave and hope to never return to the shop full of dumb a$$.

I can believe that. Thats why I ordered 4 front GTA wheels so I would not have this problem. Most cars don't have wheels just for the front or rear and if they do, the wheel with the deeper lip goes in the back and the shallow lip wheel goes on the front. GM designed back assward and made the shallow lip wheel for the rear and the deep lip wheel for the front. A lot of people don't know that, even a lot of GTA and TA owners. Its a common mistake to make.

Well, I got the wheels, they are 4 rears, and the fronts DO rub the tierods. I put washers between the rotor and wheel though, and with only about 1/4" of washers, the wheels do not rub at all. I am going to to get some 1/4" slip on spacers and then put the wheels on. (Im not driving with washers for spacers btw, i sitll have my old wheels on.)
