Wrecked the 1LE tonight! :(
No-speed wasn't a factor....was on a back road & 3-4 deer ran out, I hit the brakes & swerved a little, one of the deer smashed the drivers mirror but the kicker is this-hit the dew covered grassy shoulder & down a 7-8 foot gully-slammed into the bottom then up into a tree!
It's currently in tow to a body shop-visible damage isn't too bad, mirror & dent in door, nose is done, left fender toast. Once it was out of the gully & on the roll-back though I was looking at the fender/door gaps & everything is out, plus the right front tire is sticking out, etc, etc
Word to the wise- had I not had those damn skinnies on the front still I probably would've stayed on the road!
Anyway, send me some ideas as to what the value of the car is, what the insurance adjusters are appraising these cars at, etc. I do know that unfortunately the insurance companies don't care about it being a 1LE since it wasn't actually a listed option you could order. It's just a stripped down, non-A/C, no p/w, p/lockks,manual trans car to them.
It's a 1991 Z28 w/ 23K original miles though!
!
I'm crying myself to sleep tonight (my back really hurts too) & PLEASE!-no request for parts yet!!

All I have got to say dude is "Oh my ***" I certainly feel your pain. I am going to fridge right now and cracking a cold one for your car.
As far as the insurance adjusters, my experience with them in the past has been to never take what they first offer you. Tell them that what they are offering is unacceptible and they have better come up with something better. I had a buddy with an older car that was written off that they were only going to give him like 1500 bucks and after a couple of discussions he ended up getting 3800 (The car was probably only worth 800 tops)and its not a fabrication story on his part because I was in the room on the speaker phone when they finally settled.
Hey man I feel for you, hope things work out, I am sure they will in the long run

I have an 87 Iroc 305 tpi nothing special its got 109k and is all stock minus filters. a guy ran a red light and hit the front and right fender. He was Russian and had no license or insurance (thank *** for uninsured motorist). they appraised my car at 2 grand. I said this is bull**** and i want someone else to appraise it. after fighting with my insurance for months i had it reappraised at 3700 and they gave me 2950 minus my deductible to fix it. dont ever take their first offer. get the most amount you can without them salvaging it. I know your pain believe me.

I've had deer pop out in front of me on three separate occasions this summer
I missed the last one by maybe two feet. He came out of nowhere. I'm in the northwest end of Calgary, a city of 1,000,000 people, and this deer motors in front of me from the right. I crank the wheels left and hammer the binders. Meanwhile, this deer has eyes as big as saucers and hits the afterburner. I don't know how we missed each other but he exited stage left and I'm sitting there at 3 am wondering if a heart attack is on its way!

That sucks..........Yeah what IROC2NV said.....NEVER take their first offer and get the most out of them that you can......
Are you planning on fixing the car??? 23,000 miles is too low to consider it gone...

simply do what you gotta do... bitch and if you are still getting stafted (like most 3rd gen owners who wreck do) BITCH SOME MORE. Blue book values are total bull $hit unless your car is an average POS 3rd gen. However w/ your miles, i find that unlikely.

Here's a pic
there's damage on the left side too & not visible in this pic is that of the door/fender/hood being way out of alignment now.....
that is all repair able. but try and get the most from the insurence company for it with out givin them the car and then take there money and if u have a buddy thats great at autobody work then get him to help fix it and then spend money on other things for the car.

I adjust claims for a living. Unless there is frame damage, that won't be a total. Radiator ok? Supports for engine and tranny ok? Those are the things that get expensive to fix. I think you should be ok. If they do total it though, you're right, they aren't going to care about it being a 1LE. Insurance companies only see black and white. Speed options mean nothing to them. Customization mean nothing to them either. Unless you add the customizations to your policy, you can kiss them goodbye. I just settled a total loss with a guy on his 71' Chevelle SS. 396, 4 spd, complete resto about 4 years ago. Settled for $3200 because it was a 71' with about 200,000 miles. Sucks, but its the fact of the matter. Good luck with your insurance company!
judging by those pics, i'd say she looks fixable, it being a 1le and all.
since for fenders and nose appear unfixable, perhaps you should check this out... from parts 123.com. nows your chance to get a SS hood to
here is a little write up on it...
Fiberglass 1982-92 IROC Front Clip:
Perfectly finished and ready to prime and paint this front clip will remove a huge amount of weight from the front of your 1982-92 IROC Camaro. It includes many integral features—fenders, hood mounting flanges, bumper, grille, lower valance, extended wheel opening, generous wheel opening flanges which all combine to offer extreme rigidity.
Note: Item shipped via truck freight. Call for current rates to your area.
hope this helps ya a little...

That should be an easy fix... just get it on the frame rack, spend about 20 min yankin on it to get it back in specs, pop a new fender on and do whatever else that needs to be done. I've seen a car worse than that get the whole front end straightened out in no time at all.
i hit a very wide fence post in my car and it cracked the windsheild, bent up the hood, tore and bent the frame in the front, and killed the drivers fender. The raditor was inches from the waterpump pulley. Looked MUCH worse than that and had it fixed for $1200 including the paint.
here it is now.
ps. thats my high school senior pic.

those are tough animals!! but if u ever have a dear out in front of you. Its better to HIT the dear instead of go off the road and hit a tree.. cause if u hit the dear. its not ur fault, and in some states u can sue the state. but if u run off the road and land in a ditch, its ur fault.. and u just screwed urself. this info came straight from my insurence company..

Thats the truth I work for the ins company and i will always kill the animal first. As long as you make contact with animal it doesnt matter what happens after. Now if you dont hit the deer or animal of any type, you pay ded and high ins for the next three years while your ins company rates on the accident. And it does not matter if you change ins companys they will still find out even if a policy report was not filed. Ins companys us a clue report passed form ins company to ins company. It works like a credit report showing what accidents you have had and what the ins company paid and who was at fault. So my point is hit the animal and keep your comp ded low as possible. ex I keep my comp ded at 100 and coll at 500 So hitting an animal, stolen veh, storm damage, glass damage. ect are only a 100 dollars out of pocket.
The great thing is keeping the comp ded low does not make the price of ins increase that much. Now coll thats a diffrent story If you guys need any friendly ins information send me a pm anytime.
If it matters i work for progressive ins the fourth largest auto ins and #1 in motorcycles

State Farm is my ins company-even though the deer only hit the side & kept going, it is covered under full Comprehensive-which I have a $0 deductible on.
As of now, I think they're totalling it, bodyshop said it's pretty close so the ins adjuster has to come & officially pull the plug.
As for Progressive being #1 for motorcycles, I might disagree-my buddy has Progressive & pays about $1200/year on a '02 Honda SuperHawk 996, w/ State Farm I'm at $635/year on a '02 Suzuki Hyabusa 1300-both w/ absolute max coverage, multiple car discounts & 27 years of age.....

I ment that progressive is the # 1 writer of motorcycle policys. Which means that we ins more motorcycles than any other ins company I didn't mean we are the cheapest Progressive will ins almost anyone if you want to pay the prices.

1LE a total :(
Well guys, the verdict is in-she's a total loss!
Body damage alone was over $3500! Plus the frame damage there definitely is a point where -even though it's a 23K mile 1LE, it just isn't worth repairing. So I will be parting it out starting next weekend. Here's some general parts:
Full 1LE brake set-up
Rear End-7.5 w/ Auburn posi, Richmond 3.73's (disc to disc-gears & all new bearings under 3K miles)
Tremec TKO w/ hardware, steel driveshaft balanced to special Tremec yoke, Hurst shifter, bellhousing & Centerforce dual friction Clutch-6K miles
Autometer Phantom Monster Tach, AFR & Fuel Pressure gauges
Koni adjustable rear shocks
SLP 1-3/4 A.I.R. headers
Accel/Lingenfelter 58mm TB
Edelbrock Runners & Intake
24# LT1 injectors
Weld 16 x 8 XP Draglites (Only 1K miles if that!)
Weld 15 x 3.5 Draglites w/ Brand new Kelly 165/15's
Competition Engineering bolt in Frame connectors (will have to check for straightness first though)
Perfect Dash Pad
Full Red interior
Z28 Hood Blisters
Z28 Spoiler
Z28 side ground effex
Brand new OE nose
used Z28 rear bumper cover (not from this car)
any other misc little parts....
WP Sportsman II heads
MSD 6AL
Crane Hi-6 Coil
Probably some other stuff I can't think of-I will be slowly tearing her apart over the next month & taking reasonable offers on all parts-I WILL NOT sell the car outright-I would lose entirely too much $$$$ that way. Any questions about any parts I may have forgotten or about parts mentioned above feel free to ask. Thanks gang & please take a moment of silence for our fallen 1LE.
