Not trying to be a troll, but - Wing vs No Wing? (pics)
Not trying to be a troll, but - Wing vs No Wing? (pics)
Like so many others on these boards, I'm one of the lucky people with a wrap-around TA wing that is starting to crack and warp and bulge...
So instead of spending $200-500 for a new wing and trying to match the 2-year old paint,
I figured that I'd just take it off and paint the deck, until I can afford to get one made out of fiberglass (and do more/other body work)
So whaddayah think? Cracking, warping, paint-peeling wing or no wing?
(Sorry for the semi-crappy Photochop pics... It's been a while...)

I'd say if the cracking, warping, etc is really bothering you, get rid of the spoiler and save your cash for a fiberglass replacement for it.
If it's not that bad, and women and children aren't pointing at it and snickering, leave it on. I think it looks naked without it. That's one of the biggest styling highlights on the car!

The lack of a wing looks good, but it also looks bizzare because we are so used to seeing wings on our cars. I am not a perfectionist so a few cracks and dings won't bother me. I would leave the wing on.
hmmm, well the wing doesn't look THAT bad. The cracks are under the wing, by the base.
And the bulges are along the left 'front side' of the wing... Forgot to mention though,
Last summer while in Arizona I got caught in a hail storm! In mid-August!
So it's got a lot of marks from it.
It looks like somebody tried to punch holes in the wing with one of those small single-hole paper puncher thingies (I think that's the scientific term)
Another reason for taking the wing off is that I have an LG4/305,
so it's not like I need it (hardly ever go over 75) and shaving the extra weight off would be nice.
Also, I kinda like the wingless look. Kind of reminds me of a 60's rear for some reason...

I have the same problem man. Mines cracked and warped too, but I don't have the money for a new one. Just leave it on, I just don't think our cars look good at all with a flat deck. Besides, you can't see the imperfections unless you're close up and look, at least on mine.
As for the hail..... I had the misfortune of driving through the only part of a huge thunderstom system that had hail in it the other day.... No dents, but it chipped the paint on my hood and it's already beginning to flake away
Sadly, it looks like my beloved hood birds days are now numbered

My car has no wing.

But then again I think it looks pretty good on mine since it's a Formula and doesn't have the GFX and such. I think no wing throws the GFX off.
I do plan on getting one eventually though, gotta decide between fourth-gen style, 91 Formula style, aero-wing style...

I don't care for the look without the wing. The last pic there doesn't look too bad, but still I think the wing makes it look a lot better.

The black Formula is mine.....don't like it w/o the spoiler!!!
Mine is in pretty bad shape also. I'm removing it this winter and getting a fiberglass replacement that weighs about 25lbs less than the stock one.

Ah! my spoiler's gone
That white bird you photochopped was mine
Mine's warping pretty bad, but I'm still keeping it on until I buy a fiberglass one from GTAuto. Although I'm now considering buying it sooner than later and just having it shot w/ white, and not waiting until a paintjob to put the new one on.
I'd say leave it 'till you get a new one

Was able to take some pics today, and it turns out it was worse than I thought...

I have 1/2 - 1 dozen of these blemishes all over the top of the wing

Bottom of the wing, with some warping to the right and on top

OMG!?

I've pretty much made up my mind. The wing is coming off, and I'm gonna paint the deck.
If it looks fugly without one, well, that will just motivate me to get it fixed sooner...

Thanks for the input guys!

WOAH. HOLDUP. WAIT.
You're spoiler looks like THAT and you're up in arms?! Man I would KILL for my spoiler to look like that in the meanwhile (until a new one is ordered) All the AeroSpoilers I've ever seen are 10x worse than that. On mine there's a large crevase (sp?) about 6" by 1" on the drivers side. You've got it pretty light pal
BTW, not meant as a flame at all
Just shocked at the difference between yours and mine

my spoiler has the dam grand canyon in the corners then i took it off and the mounting tabs just broke off the wing now i have two big round things of rust on my deck (left over from the spoiler) right now im trying to get some mecam spoilers made for a sweet price i just need to find a donater to start the mold but it would cost about 240 for the wing and about 400 for a carbon fiber one
