I know this will probably get me flamed but I have chrome around my wheel wells. Mine actually have a reason for being there though. I needed some body work done to my quarter because of bubbling paint. I will admit I dont really care for them but they serve their purpose but as soon as I get money for a new paint job they are gone. Ohh yeah mine arent the whole way around the wheel wells just at the top of them so mine isnt completely ghetto just half way there.

I think it's cool, it looks almost like the turbo kit... you know the one with flared fenders and quarters and the turbo hood. One thing I always wondered about those headlight covers, though. Don't they kill the air intake on carb/TBI and TPIs with the air box?

I never understood why people do that particular thing to the cars, when they extend the wheelbase out past the vehicle..what does it do? Is it supposed to look good, or is it just part of the whole lowrider appearance?

Yeah, there is no air going into the air box on a tpi car through the headlights! It is coming up through the front bumper where the fog lights usualy are. That is why people make custom "ram-air", they cut out the baffles and put ducts down to the front bumper. By the way, that car is gay as hell. I would rather put 20's on my car. If i saw that mural in person, maybe my opion would change but that truely is a waste of money.

What I wonder, is where they got the idea that wheels extended beyond the body was cool?

I mean, the large spoilers and stuff, is from indy cars. The wierd looking groundeffects with the huge air scoops on the front and large lights, are rally cars. But in what sport has small rims that stick out from the side of that car? Where did they get that from? And who thought it was cool?

I like that Saleen wing, but only on Saleen Mustangs.
I like the headlight covers, but only the clear ones.
I think it would look cool if the chrome fender flares were painted body color for that wide body look for fatter tires.

Not my favorite flavor of Camaro.

You guys should come to my school (high school), every other car has rims and chrome like that, and the other half wants em. A kids buy a caddy and puts that **** on it and thinks he has the worlds finest ride. I can think of 2 cavaliers with that equipment. Of course, why try to make a 4 cylinder cavy fast.

It absolutely amazes me how narrow minded some of you are (well actually most of you)!!!!!

There are certain things that certain "type" of people do to their cars. Taking that into consideration, I think it's cool as hell. :hail:

Would I ever do that? No. It's not what I want done to my car.

But you can't say something looks "ghetto" just because it's not what you would do. Did you ever think that the term "ghetto" has some meaning behind it? Like maybe those cars are owned by people who don't have a lot of $$$ to actually do what they want, so they do what they can.

I went to a school like wes2k3 says he goes to. People didn't have a lot of money to even buy a car. So to be able to save up the money to have a car, AND spend $20 or $40 or whatever it costs to put those chrome guards on was cool. It meant you were the **** 'cause you had some money to spend.

If you would have seen the cars that I had in high school, you would have said "that looks so *******". But ya know what..... it was what I could afford!!!

I hope they close this soon before more "opinions" post here.

I don't like it at all. As for the chrome fender wells, I would rather sand the bubbles and get a can of touch up paint to cover it up rather than fender wells.

All of the wanna be thugs thought it was cool, hence the trend. Now all the wanna be's think 22's are cool, until they go out and spend $5000-$10,000 on rolling stock only to hit a pothole and ruin them.

I myself never give in to current trends. I call it the "me too" concept. "I'm puttin' 22's on my ride" ya me too.... "then I'm sticking a wing on it" ya me too "then a DVD player with 4 TV screens" ya me too

[/rant]

Friggin people need to get in touch with themselves and quit letting the trneds dictate what's cool or whats not.

I don't like it when cars try to copy trends exactly. I loved the one-off designed cars back in the 70s that had custom fenders, spoilers, interiors, and etc. There was no kit to make your car look like that. It took months of hard work and creative genius to design and build a custom looking car. Nowadays body kits are available to turn your car into anything with almost no work involved. It is just too easy. The kits are so affordable that there is no originality anymore. People are always copying other people.

Nah I'm not close minded. I was singing the same song to these people 6 months ago. Except I was defending the GT styling aspect of imports instead of lowriders. I have since then learned:

If you post anything on this board, you are automatically asking people for their opinions

If people dont like what they see they will not hesitate to bash it

Thats just how this site is. I dont agree but what can I do. Might as well post ***** it up. My opinion on that car (the red hydro monster on 13" wires) is that is was modified in poor taste. I own a lowrider truck and I still think it sucks. I mean comon ... really!! ... he chose the wrong car to mod. If you want to build a lowrider car, you should start with a car that was made for cruzing, not a sports car. Notice how every car around it is not a sport car. Then to spend all that money on a cutom hood graphic and thats it. Freaking GTS logos are still on the blackouts and there is no grill. Blah!!!

BTW, if people are poor then they wouldnt be able to afford a hydro setup. No this person wasnt poor (also note expenive cutom airbrushed hood), he just had bad taste.

Thats my opinion and I'm ticking to it.

do you know how much that sh-it really costs? i'm sorry, i'm not one to flame, i'm open minded, in fact one of my favorite cars on here is iroc2nv's, that should tell you i'm not one of these hard core closed minded guys (no offense kj, lol) but those little rims cost a pretty penny, and axle extensions are expensive too, and are you trying to tell me he can't afford 'vette rims when he has a custom airbrushed mural on his freakin hood? And those chrome pieces of junk cost much more than 40, more like triple digits, in the 100's i know that! And that car was an iroc wasn't it? i can't see the pic right now, but i know it was more than an RS, and the paint was reallllllll clean, i'm sure he can afford it.
Low riders have been around long before third gens were. There's nothing new done with that car.
A lowrider thate been around before thirdgen is admirable, an impala, which is made for cruisin, that had a decent look to it. Not roller skate on amphetamines. Lets face it, this car is now total crap, no getting around it. Don't lie to yourself, and be tottally dillusional and just say, well thats his taste.....well his taste sucks. I am judging it, and everyone else is, that the real, cruel, unfair world. get freakin used to it. The car is a wanna be gangster ghetto cruisin piece of trash now, he ruined it beyond going back, and i'm sure the interior is covered in mirrors and velour as well. lol needforspeed, i bet he's a member of 7-11 raiders, that one man gang, lmao. just give up defending this crappy ride for cryin' out loud.ok, i'm done with this

Anyone out there saying that these people are Narrowminded need to either A) Go back and look at the car again just to make sure there looking at the same thing we are B) Need to realize that because a car looks like crap, and is done in poor taste (Just like jokes about Race, Creed and Religion are done in poor taste), that it doesn't automaticly mean that this car is a picasso... he obviously is doing these things to his car for people to notice.... well, as we see here, this is what 90% of the public notices when he drives down the road... in fact, its probobly what most of the people at that car show are thinking. I can see people putting in tons of hard work on a car, to make it CUSTOM and unique... but the only thing he didn't pick up from Pep Boys on that car is the Custom Air Brush on the hood.

I agree with CrazyHaiwaiian that sports cars just don't work well when you try to make them lowriders.....I personally like the lowriders...........

just don't make a lowrider camaro, corvette, firebird or mustang for that matter.......

Sorry. I forgot that all of you wrote the rule book on "what cars" can have "what mods" done to them.

First ... How do you know that he PAID to have the hood painted? How do you know he didn't do it himself? Or that maybe a friend/relative did it?

Second ... I guess I wasn't born a "perfect white kid". I didn't get to ride in Daddy's Mercedes to school everyday (didn't have a dad around). I didn't have a $4000 car as my first car (try $400). I didn't live in a $250K house (try $25,000). SO I KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO DO WHAT YOU CAN WITH WHAT YOU HAVE!!!!!!

I'm not saying you can't voice your opinions. Quote me where I said that. And don't try using where I wrote "opinions" because I put it in quotes for a reason. Because you are labelling!!!!! And not only are you labelling, you're critisizing a life style that, to someone else, means more than you think.

That's what upset me. As I said, I wouldn't do that to my car either, but I don't think it's ugly. Just not my style. I'm the "walk soft... carry a big stick" kinda guy. "All go and no show." But that doesn't mean I'm gonna knock on anyone else for doing what they like.

Hell, my friend has won 4 trophies this summer with his '96 Avenger INCLUDING 1st place at the Mopar Nationals near St. Louis last weekend. Think I've won any trophies because my car's quicker than his? NO!!! But since I would never do what he's done, it doesn't bother me, nor do I critisize him!!! Actually, I've helped him do a few of the things to it.

Here's pic of his car as well as a link to his webpage if you care to look. Just keep one thing in mind. Everything you see done to that car he did himself with the help of friends. Everything short of installing the wheels and tires. Just too bad there's no pics of his stereo install. But IMO, that's what makes a 'car guy' a car guy. The fact that he does what he likes to his car.

I totally agree with you. But I still think that first car looks like poop. I'm not imposing my belief that the car sucks on anyone. What I think about it dosn't matter (or shouldnt matter) to the owner of that car. I'm stating my opinion. I know where you're comming from though. I dont like it either when people bash other people because of the way their car looks. I think if someone wants to do a mod, then they should do it. It shouldn't be up to anyone else to decide whats right or wrong. Thats the whole point of the custom scene, people do original stuff and keep raising the bar on mods. Just looking at sites like www.sportruck.com you can see how much detail people put into custom rides. I look at a car like a canvas that needs to be painted on. A car can reflect the personalities of their owners by the way they look. When I build a project car/truck, I want to make a statement. Unfortunately, I dont like the statement the first red car makes. That dosnt mean he's wrong or anything. I just dont like the way it looks.

I think CrazyHawaiian is right on target for this entire thread. I agree with him on all of it.
