T\A guys.. change color of guage lights.
T\A guys.. change color of guage lights.
Ok.. i was playing with changing out my tach... and i noticed that it seems liek the only thing making the guages glow orange is the bulbs.. what if we were to put blue or white bulbs in?? has anyone tried this?
The bulbs on my 87 T/A were in fact clear/white. It had orange 'condoms' on them, which you can easily remove. I replaced my bulbs with red ones, and painted the needles red as well with a sharpie pen. I think it turned out pretty sweet.
Some of you prolly think it’s too much red though…
Don’t have any pics but could take a couple tonight…

My 87TA lights up a redish orange color. I think blue would be sweet. I won't ever change it though. I don't care enough about guage color to do that.

imo, pontiac's were meant to have red dash lighting. mine has the orange condoms on the gauge bulbs, and i'd like to think they are just faded. (check out later 90s bonnevilles, grand ams etc for RED dash lighting) i want to get some xenon or other bright red bulbs.

My camera takes some of the worst dark pictures but here is my speedo, the depth/color of the blue was lost from trying to lighten up the picture to make it visable. I used standard blue glass bulbs bought from the import sectionn at pep boys..
hey hey hey its not the import section its called isle 10 and half is the ***** section the other half is real engine dress up like chrome and what not and we also have the edelbrock and holley carbs out there(only empty boxes
) and edelbrock intakes and cams

Call it whatever makes you happy... as long as they've got the colored glass bulbs and not the crappy painted ones that turn some puke-azz color after 3 hours..

actually, it was the camera, I did a firmware upgrade and it now makes red look red instead of pink.

The white reminds me of my 96 Camaro I used to have. I may have to try pulling off the condoms and seeing how it looks.

I find red even more annoying - only because I don't like that color. Even though Blue is my favorite color - I think it can be annoying sometime if it is not the right kind of shade. I think white will be best for me since I have never gotten tired of white lights.

well it took me 2 days to change the color of my guages to blue.some trans ams have orange backlightin in the gauges or the bulbs have the orange condoms.luckily mine had the condoms and were easily removed and replaced with xenon blue bulbs.these bulbs are damn bright for the money but barely changed the orange to blue at all, they are more a bright *** white with blue tint.only problem after that was my needles, they were still orange.so i took them off.got paint thinner and took the orange paint off the bottom of the needles.then i put a thin stripe of blue paint on the needle, only on the bottom where they are flat,if u put too much it wont light up at all(found that out the hard way) after reassembly and tried them at night...i wanted every other bulb blue because it was soo nice and light up perfect.sadly my car was totalled in a accident and didnt get a chance to take pics.but its worth it for guys who want to change lil things that make a difference on their dash.its alot cheaper,2 bucks for model paint,a thin brush, small jar of paint thinner, some brighter bulbs and then labour.i only had compliments on it since.enjoy

...no more t/a
i would post pics but as i stated before, not long after i did all of that my car was hit and has been sent to the scrapyard heaven.for now im driving my 86 vw golf winter beater as my daily
.i made sure i took the bulbs though.they are worth the money.people think that its soo hard to change the colors and that its not worth the effort but to me every little detail counts and make the car more unique.and if you are worried about breaking the needles while taking them out jus have some good super glue around and stick back on.i broke one needle off of the base and glued it back.its not a big pain to do jus take your time.and always go in and out of the car,put the cluster in and turn on the lights and see where some paint should come off or go on to the needles and make them perfect.the only tricky part with my cluster was settin my gas and oil back to the right spots.but a good full tank and knowing where ur oil pressure sits when warm and idling and thats it.reassemble the dash and enjoy.
