What would you do? Exhaust tips, appearance related.
Now that I'm at college this year while the car is at home, unlike last year, I don't get to take care of it like I used to.
I have chrome tips that came with my Hooker cat-back, and I like the way they look, but they rust in some spots, from sitting and not getting the attn they need.
So, I was thinking, of just cutting them off and leaving the pipes from the muffler, which stay kind of hidden. Not only would this solve the rust problem on the tips (which isnt' too bad), but it would give me a sleeper look which I like too.
This will be once I get my new heads on, new carb, and new Hooker headers.
So, what would you do, cut em off, or leave em?

they'd be that hidden with just taking the tips off? I'd think they'd still stick out some.... at least they would on mine. I guess you could just cut 'em off for now, then later on down the road you could get some polished stainless steel ones and you'd be set.

Your killin me man.
Just cut em off. It's wont look as kewl, but it will lok better than rusted tip...
i dint understand how not having dual pipes showing would be a sleeper look wouldnt that be louder and just disregard being a sleeper. for example my dads truck has a 502 with dual 2 1/2" mufflers that are 21" long it's not loud at all and it looks like hammered $hit but runs a high 12 and for a beat up, stock looking, and quiet, 73 3/4 pickup i'd say that would be a sleeper

Those tips would look great because they don't stick out and they are not large. I guess if the rust bothers you that badly then I guess cutting them off would be the solution.

Mark i like the way your hooker quad pipes look........do you have any sound clips...cause i was thinking of changing my exhaust system over......im just looking to hear how they would sound on a 305 with stock exhaust manifolds.....and i didnt really want to get into putting headers on it....Thanks

Mark! Don't ditch the tips!! Mine were rusted too and I fixed them. There's some stuff at Wal-Mart called Magic Blue or something like that (it's right by the Mother's Mag Polish) that you use on those tips...and the rust just melts away. Puts them back to better than original shine! I have the same tips and wanted to cut mine off too until I tried this stuff. You'll fall in love with your tips all over again once they're clean.

ought to report you to cruelty to Camaros.
Hey I like those tips. If you cut them you will have to just mail them to me. You dont want to do that do ya? Cant you just put some kinda coating around them that will come off easy? Anybody know of such a thing? Some kinda silicone that will tear off in a few big pieces?

I have a 4 banger Stang now as my daily driver, so the IROC is able to be modded more now. Today I pulled the heads off to get new ones, along with other goodies.

I would leave them. Besides, since you are the hooker sales person how would it look if you cut off the tips of your product?? Just get home and clean them and make sure to keep the wax on them.

do they make the dual exhaust for our cars true dual kits. also do they make it where you can have them exit on the side right in front of the rear tire and then make them go into the side skirts like the saleens or steeda or who ever makes them
just let them rust and fall off
j/k
try and see if you can put something on them to make them stop rusting if not just cut them..
cutting them would be the cheapest way and if you like the "sleeper look" then do it..

I'd have to say hackem off. I hate Tips, and I hate seeing tail pipes sticking out. Everytime I see a pair of tailpipes on a car, any car, I just want to run up and sawzaw them off.

My opinion: Keep the tips, it looks lot better. If they are rusted, just get new ones. Mine are rusted and I think I will replace them with stainless . . . someday, but I will probably keep the quad tip look. The hooker catback is definatly my favorate sounding exhaust. I have one on my car and on my wifes 4th gen (but I kept the LT1 square tailpipes and polished them).
Hmm, you can't really see them in this picture

I'd say cut them off if they are messed up. Dont worry tho man, I'm guilty of the same thing. When I bought my 90 RS it had these awfull 4" tips that were kinda bent on the bottom. I told myself right away to cut them off but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm so lazy!!

Thanks for the above pic, I like it both ways, but my girl said NO, this is the first time she has given me an opinion on what to do on the car, and that's something I respect. So for now they're staying, maybe till I can get some stainless ones.
