In New Hot Rod $23k Silverado SS
In New Hot Rod $23k Silverado SS
Has anyone seen the new Hot Rod? On page 18, there is a write up on the new Silverado SS, but not the extended cab AWD one that has gotten so much hype. This is a regular cab, 6.0 with a 6 spd. It still has the 20's and the SS bumpers, it is bad A$$. Does anone know anything about this?
Some pictures might help..........

There has always been a mystique surrounding Chevy's 'SS' (Super Sport) heritage. The SS emblem on the side of a Chevy gave notice to the world that the vehicle had the right stuff. The Silverado SS is based on the 1500 extended cab short bed.
A standard full-time, all-wheel-drive (AWD), viscous-coupled transfer case uses the traction of four driving wheels to provide exceptional on-road, wet or dry pavement handling. It requires no driver intervention, and automatically and continuously transfers torque from slipping wheels to those with a firmer grip in a smooth, almost imperceptible manner. Its continuous 38-percent / 62-percent front-to-rear torque split provides optimum handling and control, further enhanced by a standard full locking rear differential.
The custom interior is Dark Pewter and fully equipped with uplevel LT trim. Its full feature leather bucket seats have special 'SS' embroidered headrests and an 'SS' emblem on the redesigned instrument panel. The instrument panel cluster has distinctive white backlighting, with orange pointers. SS customers have a choice of an in-dash six-disc CD changer or a combination single-disc CD / cassette player with their next-generation AM/FM stereos. A premium six-speaker Bose audio system and GM's next-generation OnStar system are standard, along with a center console, eight-button steering wheel controls, a dual-zone automatic climate control system and many other new features.

He clearly said in the top post, that he wanted info about a regular cab not extended, I dont think that is the one he was talking about.

yes, I have seen the above truck oh, I don't know...about 1000 times, but this one is not an extended cab, nor is it AWD, nor is it an auto...here it is...if they let me post it. Had to scan this in
I sent a picture to GM of what I thought the SS should look like when I first saw it. I told them it needed to look more menacing than just adding 20" rims and a monochromatic paint scheme. I photoshopped this for them.

As bad A@@ as the SS is it stell does not have FORD Lighting Killing Power.
The Plan for the SS was to make a Truck that can work But can also play thats why thay made it with AWD. I dont think it was a Smart move on GM behalf But I guess thay want to try some thing diffrent

For $23k, i would get one! I like the shortbed better, plus i would not need it for work either so it would stay new. Too bad it does not perform as well as the new lightning! Oh well, i am sure they will have a kick *** aftermarket S/C kit for it. That will only cost an arm and a leg. lol

$23k sounds like a pretty good price, but overall I'm disappointed with the SS. It looks great, but it runs a VERY distant 3rd behind Ford and Dodge's sport trucks. The F150 Lightning is a 13 second truck and the new Dodge is going to have the Viper drivetrain for chrissakes!
scottmoyer, could you post the link where you found that info?
Jim85IROC, could you give a link also?
I think some of you are forgetting about the regular cab when you are saying it is so much slower than the lightning...the 6.0 in this is beefed, it has a 6 spd (less drivetrain loss) and it is more than likely lighter...I think it will give the ford a run for it's money, and do it for $10k cheaper. As for the dodge...if you have $50k to spend on a truck...put a supercharger on this one and blow it's doors off!

Thats what i was "implying" lol. Having the Dodge would be really bad ***, but not for the money. I have also heard that Dodges do not run that great anyway. My neighbor has one and nothing but problems with it. I have yet to see the new one with the V10 in it but if it is anything like the old R/Ts, it should look pretty damn nice. Not for the money though. I would just try to buy a used Z06 or something.

What do you want links to? The fact that the Lightning is a 13 second truck? Just find any magazine or any lightning website. It's pretty common.
I wanted links to the info that you posted on that it in fact going to be available in a regular cab. They are both shortbeds, one is just an extended cab. If you guys read the article above, or one of my posts, they state that the regular cab above has a 6spd in it. I know the lightning is capable of 13.7's out of the factory, that was not a question. I also wanted to know where scott got the info from sema on this truck. I am going to buy one if they are going to produce it.

BAH!
I hate how all the trucks are starting to look the same now. I used to absolutely love the shape of the Dodge front end, but now Ford is almost identical to it, and from the first pics I'd say Chevy is migrating in the same direction. I really shouldn't complain, since it means they're all becoming better-looking, but still! Some differences would be nice, right?
I guess my opinion shouldn't count though--I don't plan to buy a truck any time in the near future...

I received my information from Scott Settlemire in an email from SEMA. I'll attach it here.
Most of the info is regarding the Trailblazer SS, but the regular cab Silverado SS is mentioned. I have more specs on the Ext cab truck, but I don't think they will pertain to a lighter vehicle (reg cab)
--sending you this info. from the Specialty Equipment Marketing
Association convention in Las Vegas. GM is unveiling over 30 concept
vehicles at the show this week. Some of the Chevys unveiled today are the
Trailblazer SS, the Silverado SS Regular Cab, the Tahoe SS, the Jeff Gordon
Signature Edition Monte Carlo...and many more.
I'm sending you the press release on the Trailblazer SS because I believe
many of you are interested in where Chevrolet is going in terms of
performance. (you've heard me say many times that performance is NOT dead
at GM) While the Trailblazer SS is NOT a replacement for the Camaro...and
should not be construed as such, I believe it gives you insight to our
vision of performance...not only are we interested in performance
cars....but also performance trucks. Now...some of you may despise trucks
and sport utility vehicles......however, the market is huge.......and
Chevrolet intends to continue to offer the widest selection of cars and
trucks -- and continue the tradition of performance, handling, and style --
at a Chevy price.
---content deleted----
now...can you go down to your local Chevy dealer tomorrow and buy one of
these tomorrow morning? .....no.......but there is a lot of product news
coming in the months and years to follow......, and this Trailblazer SS
gives you a glimpse.......... please feel free to cut and paste the
following for your newsletters or websites...... but you can eliminate
this, my introduction.
Las Vegas, Nevada -- November 4, 2002.
Dressed in Ceramic Silver Metalure paint and powered by a 6.0 liter V8 that
produces 345 horsepower and 380 lb ft of torque, the Chevy Trailblazer SS
concept vehicle makes a modern performance statement, while acknowledging
Chevy's midsize performance past.
Trailblazer SS joined concept versions of the Tahoe SS and Sillverado SS
Regular Cab along with production versions of Silverado SS Extended Cab and
SSR Roadster at the 2002 SEMA show to showcase interpretations of the new
family of Chevrolet SS performance vehicles.
With a wheelbase of 113 inches and an overall length of 191.8 inches, the
Chevy Trailblazer SS is comparable in dimension to another venerable member
of the SS family, the 1967 Chevelle SS 396. In fact, with a wheelbase of
115 inches, and an overall length of 197 inches, the '67 Chevelle SS is
actually over 5 inches longer than Chevrolet's midsize SUV of today.
"Midsize cars started the muscle car revolution in the sixties" said Kurt
Ritter, Chevrolet General Manager. "Vehicles like the Chevelle SS 396 not
only had plenty of power, but the room and comfort for everyday living.
Because of that, midsize vehicles were seen as very personal -- not unlike
the reasons customers have made the TrailBlazer such a success since its
debut last year. In fact, customers are telling us how sporty TrailBlazer
is to drive."
TrailBlazer's sporting characteristics are drawn from its robust and agile
chassis. Hydroformed frame side rails provide the foundation for responsive
suspension systems, consisting of double A-arms in the front and a
sophisticated five-link rear suspension. TrailBlazer SS builds on that
foundation to turn a sporty ride into a downright exhilarating experience.
Progressive rate performance springs lower TrailBlazer SS by 2 inches,
thereby enhancing cornering and giving the vehicle a more aggressive
stance. Additional handling and appearance enhancements come from 20 inch
Budnick aluminum wheels and Goodyear Eagle GT II tires. Behind the wheels,
large four piston brake calipers clamp down on enlarged brake rotors.
As for its engine, a 345 horsepower V8 from a GM full-size pickup was
transplanted intto the TrailBlazer SS -- another nod to early muscle cars
that featured engines from larger vehicles. A heavy duty 4-speed automatic
transmission backs the engine and a Corsa 2.5 inch diameter stainless steel
performance exhaust system provides a muscle-car exhaust note.
The exterior appearance of Trailblazer SS is unique, thanks to new front
and rear fascias, lower rocker panels, elimination of the roof rack, tinted
crystal-look taillamps, and SS badging. The vehicles graphite leather
interior says SS too with embroidered seats and floor mats, and SS specific
instrument panel, Chevy bowtie leather wrapped steering wheel, and drilled
aluminum sport pedals.
"Besides a terrific performer, whether accelerating or cornering,
TrailBlazer SS is comfortable and fun to drive every day," said Ritter,
"It's the philosophy we're building into every new Chevrolet SS model."
Although a concept vehicle, TrailBlazer SS provides unique interpretation
of the family of Chevy SS production vehicles. The 2003 Silverado Extended
Cab pickup is the FIRST production vehicle and Chevrolet will announce
additional SS production models in the coming months and years.
VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS:
6.0 Liter Vortech V8 producing 345 horsepower and 380 lbs ft torque
BASF Ceramic Silver Metalure exterior
Graphite Leather Interior
Corsa 2.5 inch stainless steel performance exhaust system
Heavy Duty 4L80 E automatic transmission
Two INch lowered suspension
Budnik 20 X 9 inch polished aluminum wheels
Goodyear 275/45/20 Eagle GT II tires

The ONLY reason i want this reg cab truck is b/c it looks great, should perform well, and is cheap! This of course if GM sticks with that ad from above. Are you planning on tossing your car aside right now for a brand new sports car? If you are, then great! But i am not. I am keeping my car since i have everything in it right now, not only money! I would like something nice and affordable while still making my camaro better day by day. And it looks like this new truck is a very good contender for me! I love my Dad's 96 silverado and i have been looking for a truck for a little over a month now. Well, now i know to save up some money and when/if this truck comes out, i will try to get one. That is why i am interested. Don't get me wrong, i would love to see a new sports car from GM but i have no intentions of getting one. My insurance would really be through the roof. Not like the truck would be any better but it is more practical. Just my opinion.

I saw the SS in a Car & Driver TV episode. I think it's bada$$ - I like the square intake thingies (whatever they are??
) in front of the front tires, and then the exhaust looks the same way. It looks like it goes right through it
:hail:
Weren't they gonna make the new S10s kind of with the same styling?
