Okay, your opinions wanted on what rims for my bird...

Okay, the time is coming soon to need new tires (I dont know why, I swear those back tires burnt themselves bald) and I have three different sets of rims to throw on the trans am. The ones currently on it are 14" cragar s/s, which IMHO look awesome, but are just to small to look right. If they were 15's, this wouldnt even be a question, but they arent. I have a set of early aluminum Z-28 wheels, they are 15's. They are in good shape, just dirty, no rust or pits. Two of the cragars are realitvely beat up. With the Z-28's I was almost thinking of stripping the finish off and painting them to be gunmetal in color. As soon as i figure out my digital camera, I will try to get a pic and do some photoshopping to see how that would look. But with the Z-28's, they are in good shape, and I dont know if I could get them to look right by painting them gunmetal, and its a shame to ruin them. Option 3 are the 15" cragar keystone I just got at the thrift store. they are in sad shape, but I feel I can restore them. I was almost thinking of stripping these down and painting them gunmetal, or even matte black with a chrome edge. But they are currently chrome.

So what do you guys think, 14" cragars, 15" aluminum Z-28 wheels, 15" gunmetal Z-28 wheels, 15" chrome keystones, 15" black keystones, or 15" gunmetal keystones. I am almost leaning towards the gunmetal Z's, but its a good amount of work and I dont know how ***** it would look.

Oh, heres a pic of my car with the s/s's. The stripes are light silver, not white as they appear. There is also pinstripes around the stripes but my camera's resolution sucks.

the Keystones or 15 Cragers. Or......you could get Torque Thrusts I or IIs. Any of those would be sweet. I like the Cragers you have on now too.

I love the cragars myself, but they are beat up, not nearly as bad as my salvation army keystones, but they are only 14" and look kinda silly. I could just wait on rims, i do need new cylinder heads worse right now

i was at the junkyard yesterday, and they took in a 79 z28 with aluminum rims.

they look like a turbine to me.

i'm attaching a photo below. from there, you could photoshop that rim into a pic with your car.

i think they'd look neat.

note: this is not the car i saw. i found this by doing an internet search.

My opinion

If you can save some money you will be very happy if you follow my opinion
1 Try to make a trade or something (like i did)
I had a Cragar look a like 14s on my 82
and they looked awful ...i trade it for a 15 Bird base wheels (which looked OK...)and now i traded thse 15s for the 16s Formula wheels ...try to get some 16s or 17s wheels if i were you man i would trade all your wheels for some 16s
Thsi is how the Firebird of my friend looks with my exwheels
and i dont like it ...he gave me the ORIGINAL 1988 Base Bird Wheels

15 inch aluminum z28 rims would maybe look good, i would think any 15" over those 14"s would be better looking...

good luck on your choice...
