Got my first 3rd gen! :)

Hi everyone, I'm somewhat new here. I got my first car last Christmas but i havnt posted it yet because of different reasons. It is my highschool car, a 1987 Trans Am GTA. It has the 5.7L and t-tops. I recently purchased a 6 point roll cage and had it installed a week ago. Before it had a lot of road noise and creaks when turning. The cage stiffened it and quieted it. I plan on getting either a T56 or a T5 to put in her before Christmas ths year. By summer i will have a fresh 383 Heres a few pics, tel me what you think

nice pics. ^_-

Cool, I just bought my 89' GTA this summer, around September I took possesion of it. I need a new engine, can i have your old one. Heh mine has a internal coolant leak from the water jacket between cyl 3 & 5, so the block is gone. I'm not going to bother salvaging the heads. I'm just dropping a reman long block in there unless I can find a better deal on a used engine thats got life left in it.

Dabe: The cage i got from S+W Racing came with the pins next to the joint so that it swings out making it easy to get in, its still not too hard to get in with the bar in place, kinda sucks for the rear passengers though

Mark: Heh, kinda funny cause it DID have a wing when i bought it ($2,500) but when i got home it was gone! Lol, aparently only 2 of the crappy spoiler clips were on and it blew off on the freeway. I retraced myself when i realized it was gone but someone had picked it up But I will either be getting a new fiberglass one or a 91-91' highrise.

Looks good, I like the look without the wing.

With that roll cage, can you still have the t-tops off or is there just a big bar above you then?

When the wing on my GTA finally dies I probably won't get a new one. I'll just fill the holes and have the car repainted. I actually don't mind the look of a wingless bird. It looks pretty good to me.

I like the wing delete personally

The cage is cool too but overkill at this point. Cool for future power increases

The engine compartment is nice and clean. Cool car. :hail:

Very nice car! To me, there's nothing like driving a nice Trans Am to high school. But personally, I never did like the wingless Bird look. Just takes so much away from the car's look in my opinion. I would get one back on ASAP if it were me. I definately love the roll cage though. It's a look that you don't see very often at all which is what I like. Don't know about your town, but around here, if I had to guess, there is probably one in every 1000 cars around here that have a roll cage. So that's why I'm planning to install one in the near future cause there aren't too many things that you can do that add a cool look AND add to the function of the car.

Got any pics of them on your car? I haven't them on any car but mine. I wouldn't worry about me coming up there and cramping your style though cause I wouldn't wanna take my car that far. But anyway, what size did you get and did you have to do anything to get the center caps to fit over the bearing dust caps cause I know that I did.

Have you called anywhere to verify that anyone has any in stock? Cause last I heard, they were discontinued probably close to a year ago now. And if you did find any, how much? The closest size that I could get was in a 22mm positive offset but I had to get some thin wheel spacers and pound the dust caps on the front a little flat to ge the center caps on. But still worth it for the price.

That's great. If I knew more about cars at the time I purchased my Bird I would have waited out for a TA or an Iroc. If I had an extra $2000, I could have bought a 1992 67,000 mile, black with orange heritage stripes, Anniversary Z28, fully optioned. The car was flawless, inside and out. It makes me wish I worked longer hours to be able to buy it.

Thanks for the nice replies The t-tops can still come off just as easily and the bar sticking out makes it look a little meaner.

I also like the spoiler delete. But it does look a little plain, has anyone tried to fit one of the little sloped lips off the RS Camaros onto a t/a?

The seat is exactly where i had it before the cage was put in so no problems there (not exactly comfortable because of the seat's design but that will soon be fixed with new ones). When its all the way back the seat does move a bit straighter but theres plenty of leg room where its at.

BTW I love everyones cars here, i havn't seen one I don't like

Did the tubing for the cage come ready to weld in, or was there cutting involved? What did they charge you to put it in? How much did the cage cost with the swing out bars?
