I had a friend call me the other night and he's wanting information on wheel sizes for a 86. His son has caught the local bug and wants to buy 20 " wheels. He wants to get 18 " wheels instead. So if any of you have 18 " or 20 " wheel please reply , let know your type of wheel , what back spacing you are using on front and rear wheels and what size tires you are using with the wheels.

there is a kid where i work at with 20 x 8 wire spoke wheels on his v6. but the rear tires are being cut up by the fenderlip.

Thirdgen's have a rough ride stock.... I can only imagine how uncomfortable it would be with 18'' wheels (no tire sidewall to absorb shock).

Yes a few guys run 18's. I have a set of 18's myself but they are not mounted yet. I have seen pix of a 3rd gen on 20's but he had to leave the suspension stock. The backspacing and stuff will depend on how wide the wheels are. Its just the same as any other size wheel. For 18's you should run 40 series tires. For 20's I think you hav to run 35 (ouch!)

Plus the 20's would take a wee bit out of your 1/4 times... Ill just stick with the 16's and 17's

anyone know the average weight difference to go up in size on a standard make rim like a 17x9.5 to a 18x9.5?

It would depend on the material of the wheel. I'm sure if you emailed the wheel manufacturers they would give you weight specs for each size. Thats what I did.

well i asked on the z06 just for reference and it's just a hair over 1lb to go from 17-18...?

doesn't seem right though?

1lb seems like alot for 1 inch

not yet.........soon though, very soon!

the actualy weight shouldn't matter as much as the distrubution of the wieght with the tire MOUNTED. because the wheels are rotating you could have a wheel tire combo weight a couple of pounds more, but if all the wieght is close to the center it will be easier to turn than a wheel weighing less, whose wheight is all distributed towards the outside.

so how would you determine that? off design alone?
