Widest tire for back....

I currently have 17x9.5 wheels and 275/40-17 all around on my car and I would like to know if a 285 tire would fit without any problems?
I did a search and came up with afew topics but no answers.
thanks, rocc

Man, I can't answer that but I would like to say that I like the wheels and tires! I was curious how you fit those on the front? I thought there we're clearance problems up front.

I ordered them straight from American Racing and I had them made with a 5.5 inch offset to get them to fit. I believe they normally come with 4 or 4.5. It cost me a bit more but it was worth it to me.
I would like to get a little wider out back , thats why I was asking.
Thanks, rocc

Yea man 285's will fit no prob on a 17x9.5 on the rear with 5.5 backspacing.. I was running 315's on mine (same rims as you too) you can see pics on my web page.. They looked very badass... Until I wrote the car off a couple weeks ago

Can anyone photo chop the wheels and tires off of the car at the top and put them on mine? Those look really cool and I was wondering what they would look like on my car.

Do you really need that extra 1cm of width?

Cost to benefit ratio...

click here This is a link to a thread I was involved in some time ago. You can also do a search under reddrocket and see all of the threads I've commented in. Most have been about fitting 18's on a third gen.

Basset Racing has some 335s on the back of his ride if I'm not mistaken. Hell, with a little more banging you can probably get some 345s back there. That's a whole lotta tire too. I heard now that those come stock on the new vipers that maybe Michelin would be making a 375 or some insane size like that as an upgrade. Probably just a rumor though.
