I know nothing about tires: Question

Sorry if it's a stupid question
Like I said; don't know much about tires.

Are there different width tires for the same size rim? I need new rear tires for my car, and was wondering if there are wider tires than the stock ones, and if so, how wide could i go. I don't really want to get taller tires because of the gear ratio crap, I don't wan't my car to be any slower than it is

I have 15 X 7 Z28 rims.

Thanks for any info!

ya you can put bigger tires on them. I am not sure about what will fit on a 7" width, call you local tire place and ask them for exact numbers.

What size tires do you have on it now (235/60/15, 215/65/15, ...)?
I had 235/60/15's on my 15x7's when I had them, but these may
be taller than what you are currently running.

I also had 235/60/15's when i had the crappy wheels on my car. Someone here had 295s on a 15" rim, so you can definitely go wider but then they bulge and in your case won't really help from a performace standpoint.

235/60s are probably the maximum tire width I would use with a 15 X 7 inch wheel.

FLYNLOW92rs - I also like the shorter sidewall look. However,
if 85_ZED28 is keeping the 15 inch rims and wants the same
overall diameter the side wall height can't be changed.

235/60/15's will have an overall diameter of 26.1 inches

215/65/15's --------------------------------------- 26.0 inches

225/60/15's --------------------------------------- 25.62 inches

These are all the tire sizes that I have seen on 15x7 inch camaro
rims. If you have an overall diameter of ~26 inches I would go
with the 235/60/15's. If you want to push it than you can go
with a 255/55/15, but make sure the tire is approved for a 7" wide
rim. Also, you may get some rubbing if they are on the front.

255/55/15's ---------------------------------------- 26.04 inches

However, if you have a standard diameter
of ~25.6 inches I think that you can fit a 245/55/15 on without
changing anything.

245/55/15's ---------------------------------------- 25.61 inches

The reason I said that a 25.6 inch diameter is the standard
is that 245/50/16's, 245/45/17's, and 275/40/17's are all that
height. I hope this helps
