not bad....although i wouldn't ever want to get in a front end collision in that car.. you'd bust out your knees in a second. The cage welder I was talking to told me that he mounts it closer to the firewall so that wouldn't be a possibility. Or he would weld it with a bend in it to keep it away from driver/ pass. For a taller guy it looks like you might hit.

But overall, yours looks to be a very clean job and I would be really happy with it.
Are you going to paint those bars?
Steve

Looks good! What kit is that? Also, what is an "estimate" on the labor for the cage? Looks clean. Are you going to put the interior back in?

do you have an access panel cut into your trunk hump to get to your fuel pump. If mine goes that is what I am doing. Im not about to rip the rear and the tank out just to change the pump. F*** that.

BTW nice cage and car, looks like the cage does stop short, but Im sure the person doing it has experience and knew that they were doing.

Hehe I was just gonna say something about that, looks like you changed your fuel pump "that way" too. Prepare for someone to yell at you for it.

why would they yell at ya for it, seems like a logical way to do it, as long as you make a panel that will go back on and do a quality job

Thanks everyone. It's a Chris Alston cage and the guy that put it in is the same guy that built my mom's 7 second Lumina so I'm sure he wouldn't screw me on the install and were the bars should go. I still have a few bars to put in so I can certify it. As it is it is good up into the mid 9's and I don't see it ever going that fast since it is a 10" tire car. That cage is now painted white and most of the interior is going back in. And for the record I can chang my fuel pump in 15 minutes so I think its a pretty helpful thing to do.

Yeah, instead of 15 hours. Cut a hole, make a plate, make it to go back on with zuss (sp?) fasteners or something like them and its an economical time saving mod. why would people yell at ya for it?

Everyone says I will hit my knees but I have about a good foot or more of clearance. Thanks for the nice replys I'll get more pics as soon as I get the car home. Now the rear firewall is being built and the SSM liftbars and SFC's are being installed.

I'm not telling him he should not have done it, because I did it this way.

I'm saying, I got yelled at for it, and others have as well, so just be prepared.

"Ooooh that's ruining the whole structural integrity of the car..." bla bla bla "why in the *@#! would you hack up your thirdgen like that?!" bla bla bla "I changed mine the RIGHT way in [such-and-such-amount of time]" etc.

I understand how you meant it, I didnt take it like you were giving him crap. I dont see how it would take away the integrity, if you put in a new plate with decent fasteners, its just as strong as if it were in there.
