....also, don't know about the other years, but my 92 has pitiful paint. Something about Van Nuys cars had some new formulation because the state of California outlawed solvent based paints??? I know, after 20 years it's time for a repaint, but I have seen many Chevrolet products from the early 90's with horrible paint.

Headliner. Door rattle. Those are the two thing I could easily do without, But I still love the car nonetheless

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
the console in all the cracks where stuff builds up is hard as crap to keep looking nice and the spair and jack rattle alot. feel like it dose not have enough horsepower.
Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Hmm the lack of ac, no cupholders, the fact my car is wired up to the point where I know how to trace anything
fuel gauge doesn't work and the overheating problems, on the upside I have moded 350 which is plenty fast for me

Wot is with u guyz and cupholders? I never realized there were so many people who need to have a cup of wotever at their side all day long! I'm not sure, but I don't remember any car from that time period that offered cupholders, even as an option. Hey! I got an idea. How about all you people that need a cupholder, get a large, appropriate size hole saw and drill a hole in your console? Ha Ha.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
A few of you guys are complaining about the seats. When I bought my 'bird the drivers seat was slighlty torn up on the outside edge as I would expect with a 2 door car. I was going to recover the seats myself but the cost of the original style seat covers was a little to high for me at the time. One day I was at a car show and found someone who sold me a pair of buckets out of a Bronco!- in the same shade of grey fabric as my 'bird. The seats look like they belong. Depending on how stock you want to keep your 3rd gen, this might be an alternative for you. Look for seats from any other vehicle that you like. The only thing you need to look for, if you go this route, is distance between the mounting holes of the seat, not any extra bolt-on risers like there were on the Bronco (I measured the distances before I went to the show).

i dont like:
the fact that its become a symbol of american white trash
the V6 in RS, but that problem will be cured soon
the sqeaks and rattles
T5 trannies are too weak
crappy headliners
after driving other high performance GM vehicles (mainly vettes, newer f-bodies) i dont like all the free play in the clutch
shifter has WAY too far of a throw
power window motor design, its a very dumb design and a PITA to replace compared to newer style GM vehicles
interior door panels are a cheap design in every sense of the word

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
We are all complaining about a suspension design that was out of date when they were brand new. The squeaks and rattles, the cowl shake, the heat sink with the V/8's and more. My 1991 Formula 350 is now featured in this months High Performance Pontiac magazine (October 2012 issue) and has six pages of mods that cured most of these problems and they were all BOLT-ON. From the Hotchkis Strut front tower brace, the Edlebrock LCA's, the Alston sub-frame connectors and the IROC Wonder Bar, it made the car feel like it's on rails.
If there are some things that I haven't worked on, it is the curled up ends on the horn buttons, the slooooow power windows, the rear 4-wheel disc brakes (that don't hold crap). Yeah, I've had to replace the headliner, several starters and alternators, but the car is now 20 years old.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
A lot of these complaints I can agree and sympathise with you. The white trash thing sucks, but people who don't like it can choke on my smoke. Slow? Not my TA. The 305 is't exactly stock, but it's terribly far off. Trans has a rebuild and shift kit. I'll give you it does have ZZ4 350 power, but she is plenty quick. I love my carb, and all carbs. I feel like they are a lost art form, don't buy a paintbrush if your trying to sing an opera, you get me? If you love working on these cars they are amazing. I wish I had cup holders, but honestly it's an automatic... so I just set my 64oz. Double gulp on the flat part of console and hold it like it's a really tall shifter. Would be nice to have a cup holder for smaller drinks but I can live without. And Interior Quality? Yeah, it's complete sh*t. Just like every other car made in the eighties. If you don't like it? Fix it. It's cardboard and fabric. Doesn't call for rocket science. I made stuff like this is elementary arts and crafts class... I happen to think the utter simplicity of most the interior was GMs way of begging us to do what they couldn't. Ha ha.
So really I kind of agree @EdPontiac91 and want to add... things not to like about thirdgens are great because that means someone somewhere is gonna come up with a cure for it, because we all know ho much We Love These Cars.

lmao I get a kick out of reading some of the complaints. If some of us could go back to when these cars were brandy new off the line, they held their own for speed, the handling was pretty unreal. the rattles were not like they are now 25 years later.
Heck how many 1980's Dodge Chargers/omni's are still on the road? hahaha
The only real bit&#'s I have: Not even a option for cup holders. and no quick way to replace the fuel pump.....

I can attest to the cars tightness when new, my buddy has an 87 GTA with about 12k miles and the thing is so damn tight, My 88 gta sounds like even the paint shakes on it, after so many years of the body going thru so much twisting the cars will tend to rattle.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Haha, this thread is always good for a couple laughs. I love my '86 to death, but here's some things that I've picked up on that can be a bit annoying...
-No cup-holder (this should just be a given by now)
-Smokes upon start-up until oil burns off
-Doesn't like to start if hot
-Doesn't like to start if cold
-Paint chips easy
-Getting in and out can be less than graceful looking
-No A/C
-The "white trash" stereotype
-People who think these cars are slow
-The sloooooooooowwwwww "power" windows
-Power locks that do not work
-Cheep interior plastics/headliners
-Gets hot quickly going up long hills
-Heavy doors/door sag
-Seats that do not slide back very far
-The fact that no wreckers in my area have any 3rd gen parts!
I left out rattles even though I have them too because with no A/C the windows are always down and the radio playing so I never here them anyway.

The fact that some Douchebag high school Jock with his new mustang GT can beat my Z28
my L98 can still Rock The Road with the '05 4.6l GT but the new 5.0 is 2012 Camaro SS territory.

oh and the stupid vinyl lifting off the edges of the center console. And i dont know about you guys... but i absolutely HATE the fu****g Hatch motor! You can buy a new motor and tracks but not the latch mechanism with the switches. total PITA and stupid design, definitley could have simplified things and made it easier to fix.P.S. who the heck wants a cup holder in a sports car???? I dont know about you... but with the kinds of G's i pull your food wouldnt stay still in your stomach let alone a cup in a cupholder. eating and drinking is not for inside a car. but im just old school like that.

For you guys that REALLLLLLLY need cupholders, the 1991-92 Firebirds had them right on the bottom of the door. I would imagine that you could bolt these right onto the door panels without too much trouble.

Sagging headliner that messes up your hair and the pain in the a** it is to replace the fuel pump (dropping the tank method).

I love my 3rd gen camero but there are some dislikes, sqeaks, trunk motor, snailpan thingy, hump in passenger floorpan, little truck space and no glovebox.

I Hate Getting Under 10MPG Street & I Also Hate That This Damn Thing Has Been Nothing But Problems Lately, But Would I Ever Consider Giving Up & Selling It? F**K NOOO!!! I Plan On Fixing Every Problem It Gets & Dealing With It's Really Sh*tty Gas Mileage Because I Love My Iroc & I'm Committed.

I think it's hilarious that all of you guys are complaining about cupholders. Come on guys, you know they didn't start putting cupholders in until the mid 90's. I don't have cupholders in ANY of my cars and it hasn't bothered me once! Now that I said that, things I don't like:
-the poor design of the seats- to fix them right I am going to have to redo the frames
-the poor quality paint job - it's just blowing off the roof
-Freakin' pistons to hold up the hood instead of spring loaded hood hinges - they were just replaced two years ago and now I have to replace them again
- I could complain about the plastic interior pieces and lack of horsepower, but guess what - THAT'S 80'S CAR MANUFACTURING
With all that said my firebird has grown on me in the two years I've owned it, and I would never sell it. I love that car!

The ONLY! thing I hate is GM,s VATS system you can always count on it crapping out when you need to get somewhere. Makes me regret ever buying a Third Gen. Anyone know how I can completely disable the system from the ecm or should I just torch the car??

You Can Take It To A Tuning Place & Have The VATS Disabled From Your Computer. Personally I Just Swapped Out My Steering Wheel Column & Had A New VATS Key Made & That **** Was Fixed.
