AMEN BROTHER!!!!!!
----------
Yes there are black trash cars. Early 80's Lincolns and Cadillacs.

----------
Like most everything about my 89, with the exception of power..(Needs more)As far as 80's cars go, these were a cut above most, and whats with the White trash thing?? Are there black trash cars too??? Sounds kinda demeaning, I havent noticed that in my area, at least......BTW, as for the rattles, hell these cars are around the 20 year old mark...HAHAHA, mine dont rattle....

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Where should I begin?
1. Horrible position for a t-stat
2. Manifolds that don't make it passed 200 000km
3. The y-pipe
4. small radio pocket
5. heater core position
6. Big back window.. So hard to clean..
7. Weak brakes..
But I love the car in general!

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
-Uhh the fact that my injectors are leaky
-THE LACK OF A GEAR POSITION INDICATOR FOR THE AUTO TRANS!!! WHY GM WHY!!! I always have to count and double check to see if i'm in drive, its annoying..
-No friggin cup holders and i cant slam the drinks between the seat and the center console in a GTA...In my old Firebird i could do it
-The terrible jacking points that crush and bend
-Terrible paint
-Rubber Spoiler that cracks
-It shakes and rattles at idle
-Rear end likes to kick out sideways allll the time...fun when YOU want that to happen...not so fun in the rain
I hate that i love it so much tho...

Let's see,
-I have to agree about the cupholders.
-Rear end likes to kick out sideways all the time...fun when YOU want that to happen...not so fun in the rain......definitely.
-It's kinda heavy in general especially the rear glass
-T-tops leak
-Those godawful emission controls that are worth a squirt of pi$s
-The horrid and puny exhaust
-Cheaply constructed interior that had to be replaced every other year
-Ground clearance issues (after certain mods)
-A/C compressors just sucked a$s and had to be replaced every other year like the interior
-Can't put the preferred width tires
Now, let me flip the script
Things I love!!!!
-They don't make too many body lines like these anymore
-SBCs are easily modded and are by far the best engines ever made
-Shows you have an appreciation for history and taste
-Is easier to have sex in then a Corvette or an import of it's kind
-T-tops
-You know a girl loves you for you because she hasn't seen your Corvette yet
-Parts are mostly interchangeable from different makes, models and generations
-With the right exhaust they sound good
-The seats are not built for comfort, they are built for me!
-Lots of good spots to hide contraband
-Easy to work on
-It ain't a Rustang!!!!!
-No cupholders because you shouldn't be eating inside a man's car!
-It can tow your boat
-Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Let's see......
NO cupholders
The shift **** sits too high to be comfortable
The yellow print they used on all the labels/gauges - Why couldn't they make it match the paint better???? I got a red car with yellow gauges and I feel like Ronald McDonald in it
The whole white trash thing
So many mods/upgrades, so little money/time
Small trunk
Rust - mostly gone now though
I almost forgot, those stupid fake Torx screws in the doors. Whoever had that "brilliant" idea should be shot repeatedly. I can never remember which ones are real and which aren't. At least not until I strip the **** outta them. Then they look like crap.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
1.RATTLES!!!!! Everything rattles even though I've tightened and shimmed everything I can think of.
2. The unavailability of a manual tranny console shift plate after my auto to T-5 swap.
3. The greenhouse effect. It's got to be 180* in the car everyday after work.
4. The giant back window, but I don't think I could ever put a notch back on it.
Now, for things that I do like:
1. The amazing gas mileage I get out of a 17 year old American rear wheel drive V8 car (I average 27-28MPG mixed and I've hit 30 a few times).
2. My cup holders..yes, my 91 has them from the factory.
3. How easy it is to work on.
4. The availability of parts from the junkyard, and the fact that parts from other GM vehicles sometimes swap in with little to no modifications.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
What is it about you guys not having a cup holder???
"no cup holder. . .NO CUP HOLDER. . . No Cup Holder!!! OMFG NO CUP HOLDER!!!"
Shouldn't be drinking and driving anyway. . .
Besides, where I live at this time of the year. . . with non-operating A/C, having that extra large ICEE between my legs ain't such a bad thing. . . To me, a Camaro is a driver's car. A cup holder is just a sign of luxory.
Anywho, my only complaint is the typical GM electronics of the time.

not sure if ne1 has covered this but the horrible radios speaker compartments, 4X6 inside the dash is horrible,
Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Second the hatch pulldown motor! I can live with everything else - the car is a blast to drive, and we all know we aren't driving an '08 Mercedes, but the pulldown motor is a *itch! Plus, it's super expensive to replace, and a pain to rebuild.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
I'm mostly reiterating everyone else here, but what the heck:
T-tops. The novelty wore off really fast for me. After owning two hardtops, the water leaks and the greenhouse effect during the summer have convinced me that i'll never ever have a t-top car again.
The weak stock brakes.
The junk stock exhaust, it was the first thing I ditched.
Gets hung up on carwash rails, alignment racks, large speed humps and occasionally a railroad crossing
(good thing I work for the railroad!)
Body parts availability is little to zilch.
Stock radio speaker locations suck.
I know it's an old car, but i've had older cars that never rattled as much as this one does.
There were two when I picked. I should have gotten the one with the manual transmission. I'm on my third 700R4 in 8 years.
Last, I hate the way that for some reason every other idiot at a stoplight thinks i'm out to pick a street race with them just because i'm in a clean looking older Trans Am.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
did any one mention the crappy GM paint. faded and peeling.
i can live without the cup holder. I don't eat or drink in my car at all ever period. of course ten miles takes me through not only my town but the next one too so the odds are I can make it home without dehydration or starvation setting in too solidly.
I do like how all the other kids think I'm out looking for a race. Especially when Jr. doesn't see the cop sitting across the way

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
One thing I don’t like about third gens is that many of their owners complain about maintenance issues on a car that is at least 16 years old. LOL
I mean 70% of the issues I hear are maintenance issues. What I say to that is pick up a wrench.
The second thing is that they do not get nearly the coverage they deserve in Magazines and on shows.
Sure in general there are flaws with the car, but then there are flaws with all cars.
I personally like the style of the car, and if there is a shortcoming or flaw, then I modify it.

Only thing wrong is all the replacement parts that are now obsolete and no one makes them (I know there is a market)...Makes restoring these things (or replacing broken parts) difficult.
Saw a set of NOS kick panels on ebay go for over $100.00

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
It's when you're parked behind some a$$hole at a light who wants to race. Then when he sees me in his review mirror, revs up his engine and floors it when the light turns green. Meanwhile his spinning tires are spraying my minty front end with road and tire shrapnel and crap!
I rarely, if ever, have road rage, but if I ever catch any inconsiderate SOB that does that, he'll be eating that crap. Now I usually leave full car length between me and any car in front of me that looks like it has a loser behind the wheel.
Sorry, I'm done venting now.
Ironically, I guess in this one case, that's when I prefer to be behind an import. Most of them are front wheel drive!

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
hmm lets see...
- the rattles/squeaks at times from the C&C t-tops
- expensive gm replacement parts
- no locks in my t-tops
(have to get some but can't find C&C ones!!!)
- slow a$$ power windows...seriously...
- certain angles of the car don't look super good lol...i'm being a little too picky (ex...standing right behind it looking foward...only looks weird cause you can't see the rest of the car...but this is really no issue lol just saying other angles look way better
)
- I hate when people want to sit in the rear seats of my car but I don't want them too...its way to small and only for storage...the car isnt fun to drive with people back there!

just "beaners"? seems they call it a "mulet haired, white trash" car for a reason. don't stereotype. seen MUCH worse than mary painted on the hood and on the rear window. I believe there is a thread that has some of the ugliest thirdgens people have done up. maybe that was a different message board.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
the lack of power in most third gens. and the fact that most stock 4 cylinders now beat alot of stock third gens...lol. and also the lack of brakes....the fronts are the same as the s10 blazers and trucks for crist sakes. lol and also the lack of room underneath for ANYTHING specially a dual exhaust!!!! but thats why i am in the process of changing the WHOLE drivetrain and got zo6 brakes on it and exhaust not sure yet. but a built ls1 will be in my iroc when im done. GM made up for the lack of power in the thirdgens when they made the LSX

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Every one complaining about cup holders!!
Why dont you buy a Cadillac?
Complaining about the rear seat that its impossible to sit an adult!!
Ever saw a Mercedes 600 SL rear bench? because I dont call it a seat!!
So why dont you buy a Dodge Caravan 7 seater!
Complaining about door trims! ever saw a Ferrari F40 interior?
Complaining about duela exhaust? just do one your self!
Complaining about brakes! we all have the opportunity to upgrade them!!
I heve to complain because 5 years ago I baught my 89 RS for ober $32,000 and I know that you are laughing but its the truth because in my country we have to pay a lot of cash to register cars from out of Europe over 3.0 ltr and a lot of cash for duty!!
In Malta a c4 corvette or a 3rd gen Camaro cost about $35-40,000!
And to import a part or something for the car you have to make for example $100 x 3 coz of shipping and duty!!
I experienced this thing lately! all of you buy a set of 18" iroc rims for $700
I just baught mine ,shipping, duty and all the charges plus tires cost me all over $3850
coz I baught the tires locally and if you go larger than 15" the prices are high in the sky!
to give you an example!! x1 295/35/18 costs $487
so have fun with our cars and thats it!!
At the moment I am the most user online and I am poud to say that I love my Camaro as it is!!
Thanks guys
Why dont you buy a Cadillac?
Complaining about the rear seat that its impossible to sit an adult!!
Ever saw a Mercedes 600 SL rear bench? because I dont call it a seat!!
So why dont you buy a Dodge Caravan 7 seater!
Complaining about door trims! ever saw a Ferrari F40 interior?
Complaining about duela exhaust? just do one your self!

Manovox: Very nice looking car you have over there!
On the topic - I've had my car for about three years now and the one thing that has bugged me since getting it is the poor ride quality. Road noise and brutal stiff ride. I've replaced shocks and struts to hopefully improve this, no luck at all. Car runs great, 22 mpg, lots of room inside especially with the rear seat down, best looking car on the road, but that lousy ride ruins it on the highway.

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
Harsh ride on a rough road, but that is to be expected on a car that handles so well...
But what I really do not like is the lack or respect it gets from the guys driving their lowered imports with the 'can of bees' mufflers and the old farts driving their Ferraris, Bentleys and Lambos!
However, not long ago, I was driving in Orange County, California when I pulled up next to a guy in his new Jaguar. He looked over and mouthed 'nice car' and the YOUNG lady next to him gave me a longing smile.
I had to laugh, because I was driving the EXACT car I wanted and he was driving something that was not as impressive to his girl as my Camaro and he paid 35 times as much as I did!! Ah, ha ha ha ha!!!!!

Re: What do you not like about your thirdgen?
OK i got a list for u............
Stock radio -sucks
some had a 4 banger
injectors sucks
intake sucks
body rattle form unknown places
people love to hit the front passenger side fender
the 16 in rims are heavy
doors are heavier
hood just to damn heavy
weak a$$ motor and trans mounts
the rear hatch with the motor has no safe switch to stop it it bent my keys when i left them in the side and closed it think what it would do to a finger.
the cloth headliner is falling a part
center console is just a plastic joke
back window heater takes to much power
Plexiglas T tops wtf
the paint just falls off
hollow body panels make a dent more noticeable
if u have a v6 u can sit in the engine bay -.- and work on it
After listing all this it reminds me y i got the car
it a sweet car fun to drive and with a few mood or just a good old engine 350 swap u can feel that real American Power
its meant to drive a bumper dragging 1/4 mile at a time
